Easter gifts

What do you buy your kids for Easter? Growing up we only got Easter eggs, it wasn't a big day for us. But for my partner, it was quite big in terms of presents, clothes, toys, money etc. now we have a child of our own it's become a bit of a debate :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RosieposiePuddingandPi · 20/04/2025 09:01

Our 2 have had an egg hunt with little eggs, a medium sized egg prize at the end, a sticker book and a little fidget game thing, mainly so they have some bits to do this morning while I can chill with a coffee for an hour.
I try really hard every year not to get sucked into the hype of making Easter a second Christmas so this feels about right for us.

SJM1988 · 20/04/2025 09:02

We are a similar household. DH Easter was big for me not to much.
I do somewhere in the middle. DC get two eggs each, a choc bunny and then some non choc things - this year it was a fidget toy, stickers, teddy and jigsaw.

Baconking · 20/04/2025 09:04

I get mine 3 eggs each, 1 big and 2 smaller.

They don't get any eggs or gifts from other family members.

They are teens though so will probably reduce to 1 egg each next year

My dc got a couple of eggs each off me, and an egg each from my dsis and dps. My dm got me an egg, some chocolates and my favourite clinique cream so I did better than the dc😂

DisplayPurposesOnly · 20/04/2025 09:07

I'm in my 50s. We got one egg each and some new clothes (which I think is traditional but also as PP says ties in very handily with the change in seasons and needing new summer clothes).

One year we got a womble each, that was very exciting 😀 (My mum found a woman who handmade them. Madame Cholet for me and Uncle Bulgaria for my brother. She placed them on our beds overnight and we woke up to them.)

I think the idea of small presents is to keep the quantities of chocolate down and to channel the generosity more healthily.

Flomingho · 20/04/2025 09:08

An egg and then when younger a toy or Nintendo game. Now she's a teenager usually something she has asked for like perfume or clothes.

28Fluctuations · 20/04/2025 09:08

There's no right answer. Sit down with your partner and work out a compromise.

Out of curiosity, what is the argument against Easter presents in your case? I assume he and perhaps his parents/family want to shower your dc in gifts.

mindutopia · 20/04/2025 09:09

A chocolate egg and then we have an egg hunt with some mini chocolate eggs. I grew up in very middle class over the top America and I still only got an Easter basket with eggs and sweets. Though some of my American friends do presents and matching Easter pj’s and crazy shite like that.

Mummysgonetobed · 20/04/2025 09:11

As a child we got one egg each from parents and one from grandparents.

my dc this year have a large egg, a small egg and a kinder bunny from me and an egg from my mum.

I’ve also got them a new book each, and a sunflower growing kit between them.

we’ve got refillable plastic eggs which I’ve filled with the tiny chocolate eggs from Lidl or marshmallows, do this every year for the egg hunt. Then they’ll find them and I’ll hide them again - we do this a few times!

I truly do not understand the hype with Easter baskets, massive amounts of gifts or making it into another Christmas. Isn’t there enough pressure on parents all year round?

FuzzyPuffling · 20/04/2025 09:14

The blessings and joy of the risen Lord.
And one egg.

Picklepower · 20/04/2025 09:15

DD loves Easter. I do a fairly big Easter egg hunt through the garden and downstairs. This year it included 5 medium sized eggs, 5 small lindt bunnies, and about 50 small lindt eggs. I buy lindt so I can eat it too as I think cheap Easter eggs taste like crap. I don't buy any toys, outfits etc though..just eggs and they will last us months

Oh I love the Womble story - especially the fact you’ve remembered them all these years!

Picklepower · 20/04/2025 09:16

I'm quite surprised to see people give one egg and no hunt. I thought an Easter egg hunt in the morning was fairly standard

JoyousEagle · 20/04/2025 09:16

Nothing given on Easter Sunday. But in my defence, we do quite a lot of the national trust Easter trails, so they’ve got about 4 eggs each from those.

Yes we use quite a few each for the trail

tedibear · 20/04/2025 09:21

My kids got a gift bag each with kinder bunny, candy thing with bunny shaped straw, a big Easter egg, then they both got different things, youngest got an lol toy, pencils, a unicorn fluffy bag, bracelet making set. I usually spend about £20-£25 but I got some great bargains and this yr was only about £10-£12 for each of them. They also get an egg hunt later in the garden.

Some family members give them an egg but most do buy eggs and toys or my mum goes a bit OTT and gets them quite a bit.

When I was little it was a big egg from just about every family member/friend. I think we used to get about 20 big eggs!

As we got older we started getting money so maybe £5 or £10. I loved it as a teen as I often got about £60-£70 at Easter.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 20/04/2025 09:22

From us, they got one big egg each. The Easter Bunny gets all the credit for the egg hunt bitch.

My boys also wanted to buy each other something so my 9 year old got some sweets and my 3 year old got a book he’d been asking for.

I don’t think it needs to turn into Christmas take two.

OatFlatWhiteForMe · 20/04/2025 09:24

3 eggs each plus small ones and bunnies etc in the egg hunt then some new clothes and a few treats in their Easter baskets (a book each, make up, Zara perfume and a bath bomb).

I realise it’s a lot but I got similar growing up, DH didn’t but is on board so no issue. I don’t plaster it all on social media.

GivingUpFinally · 20/04/2025 09:25

Easter is a big thing where I'm from or at least in my community growing up. H says I go over baird but I've really pared it down compared to my childhood Easters.

The kids have had:
Chocolate eggs and bunnies
Jelly beans and haribo
Kinder bunny surprises
Hollow Chocolate eggs
Books
Chalks
Water balloons
A stuffie for the little one
Crafts/jumbo crayons
Colouring books
New shoes
Clothes
Garden toys
Toiletries
Toothbrush heads and toothpaste
Audiobooks

Feel like there should more. It's like a mini Christmas at home.

Skelbop20 · 20/04/2025 09:32

2 children have received 6 large eggs and 3 smaller eggs each alongside chocolate minis and a few bars. Always get new outfits for Good Friday
will also get eggs/money from family

ForTheNightOrTheRestOfTime · 20/04/2025 09:40

When my children were younger, we would do an Easter egg hunt at home. They got lots of chocolate, a few toys, some books and some money put in their bank accounts.

They're older now. They still get lots of chocolate and money in their bank accounts.

An egg.

It's Easter not Christmas Part 2.

This

sleepandcoffee · 20/04/2025 09:44

An egg , a Easter theme book each and a bunny ear headband

1 medium sized egg each and an egg hunt - which they spend months making me re hide and hide again themselves. For this reason I've switched to plastic fillable ones!

That's adorable! 🥰

OopsieeDaisy · 20/04/2025 10:43

We did an Easter egg hunt for DC1 with about 15 small chocolate bunnies and a book for the baby. Along with the eggs and toys they will get from family members (and the fact they rarely eat chocolate!) I think it’s more than enough. Definitely does not need to be another Christmas.
