So baby was born on Wednesday via c section at 38 plus 2 he has gone to neonatal with low sats. His oxygen goes to 90 ish he is on 0.06 oxygen just wondered if this has happened to anyone else. When i fed him today without oxygen his oxygen stayed at 94. Will it get better.

Oh my dear how stressful for you. Try not to worry I am sure your baby will be thriving soon. My niece was born earlier than your baby after an emergency and is now a totally healthy stroppy teenager. Of course it will get better. He's in good hands.

Northernsoul72 · 20/12/2024 23:47

I imagine all of this is a big shock. Baby is in the best of hands. I had a 34 +2 baby 18 years ago who was in hospital for a month who is now taller than me! Don't be afraid to talk to the Dr's and nurses about any worries x

MotherJessAndKittens · 20/12/2024 23:51

Sounds like it is improving already. He was probably a bit shocked at sudden delivery and is improving. Hope it continues precious boy 💙

What a shock for you. My DD was born 7 weeks premature weighing 2lb 11oz and was in neonatal for a month she is now 23 and just graduated with a masters in clinical psychology

Hyperquiet · 20/12/2024 23:55

Congratulations on your beautiful baby. This must be stressful for you. ❤️

OrangeSlices998 · 20/12/2024 23:55

It’s a big surprise I hope you’re okay. Babies born via c section can have a bit more trouble with their breathing, as they haven’t had the fluid and mucus squeezed out during birth. Hopefully their stay in neonatal unit is short lived, being in skin to skin and holding him as much as you’re able will help his breathing and your bonding, as well as help stimulate the hormones for expressing milk for him (if you choose to do so).

Eenameenadeeka · 21/12/2024 00:00

It's quite a scary place to be but I'm sure your baby is in very good hands. My baby was very premature so can't advise on the specific situation but ask the nurses all of your questions and cuddle baby as much as you can. Hoping it's a quick stay and you will be home with your lovely baby soon

OhcantthInkofaname · 21/12/2024 00:05

@OrangeSlices998 Has the best answer. Sectioned babies can take more to time to regulate breathing for just that reason.

Nellie0606 · 21/12/2024 00:19

My baby had to go for a few hours for the same reason, she was born so quickly the mucus hadn’t cleared from her lungs. Similar numbers, we were home 24 hours later once it was consistently over 95. Try not to worry, I believe the mucus clearing issue is fairly common with a c-section and much better that they support it :)

Are you able to talk to the Staff? They should be able to answer your questions Flowers

How are you both getting on today?

Yes they just keep saying that it dropping and then they put the oxygen up slightly and then they say they will re assess Monday. I'm just so confused and tired I am a hour away from home I have two young children and home and my baby in neonatal and I jusy feel so hope less and think this is all my fault

It must be so difficult, especially being separated from your two older DC at this time of year.

Have you asked the staff why they think that his Oxygen levels aren't coming up? Flowers

Colourfulltrees · 21/12/2024 17:53

They said it can be normal due to the way he was delivered via c section and may need some time .
They have done blood tests but they take 36 hours so his on antibiotics incase it is a infection for 5 days which ends Monday.
His lung xray was clear.
Doctor said that if it dont go down then they look at heart scans etc.
He is on a veery small amount of oxygen so 0.08. Sometimes tho if his sats machine is positioned wrong on him it seems to go weird too.

I know it's worrying but lots of Posters and the staff seem to be saying that it's probably just because he's born by C-Section. You've not done anything wrong at all. LO is here safely and it sounds as though the staff are doing a good job. I appreciate it's hard on you though Flowers

TwigTheWonderKid · 21/12/2024 19:27

Ask your team about kangaroo care. Doing as much skin to skin as possible will help stabilise his sats.

beholdmylastfuckflyingaway · 21/12/2024 19:58

28 weeker 25 years ago. Little sod used to drop his sats if someone so much as farted in the same county..... it was an awful time.

It gets better. He's amazing now. Fit, healthy, sporty (international medals in his chosen sport).... no one would believe his medical records.

Keep your chin up. It will get so much better and the sun will shine on you both.

TinyMouseTheatre · 23/12/2024 11:47

Yes I'm OK bit overwhelmed I think. They did a hearing screening on him.and said he passed first test and not the second so feel bit concerned about his hearing.

This can be totally normal, especially for babies born via section. They are squeezed through the birth canal which can push out excess mucus so instead sometimes they have mucus in their ears still. They'll retest at some point:)
