Having a panic so looking for some reassurance - baby is five weeks old and I had to run home (way less than 5 mins) with her in her bassinet in the pram, on the pavements. I am now having a meltdown that I’ve done something terribly wrong! Pleaseeee can someone reassure me! 🙏🏻

Your baby will be fine. Breathe... and congratulations 👶🏼♥️

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/12/2024 10:35

Bless you, no, she’ll be completely fine.
I once was sure my 8 week old was going to die because he got very wet in an unexpected thunderstorm, so know how you feel. He’s a strapping 21 year old now.

Congratulations.

It will be absolutely fine, there’s no chance you’ve caused any damage whatsoever. Those first days can be fraught with worries but this isn’t one you need to waste your precious time and headspace on.
Congratulations 💐

She's ok x just calm down and try not to worry.. it's only been 5 weeks since you gave birth.. you'll be tired, sore and hormones are everywhere..just be gentle and kind to yourself, you've got this mama.x

HedgehogB · 18/12/2024 10:38

She probably quite enjoyed it. Truly, don’t worry. Babies are designed to take this (think ancestors running from predators)! (If you are thinking about shaken baby syndrome that is very different and a long way off the scale you describe) . Relax.

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2024 10:39

Its fine, honestly.
Its the first in a long line of incidents where you will freak out but both you and baby will be OK so strap in.
Not sure I could have done much running at 5 weeks post partum so congrats on that!

Thankyou for the lovely kind people took the time to respond so quickly and considerately; I feel much better now. The anxiety of being a new parent to someone you love more than anything in the world is real!!!

Breathe. It helps to remember that mums used to run holding baby against them when we lived in huts and caves, and we're proof that babies made it through. They're more resilient than you think.

sassyduck · 18/12/2024 11:10

She will be fine. Deep breathe and relax....
Babies are generally tough little beings.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 18/12/2024 11:17

You need to look at this from a different angle.
You have a five week old and you can run home, you are amazing.

MaltipooMama · 18/12/2024 11:19

It's fine! Think about how fast a car travels and babies can do that from the first day they're born!

The anxiety is so real through, I remember when my little one was maybe a few months old and I used to (gently) bounce him on my knee whilst singing a particular song. I remember waking up in the middle of the night in a terrifying panic that I'd caused shaken baby syndrome and subsequently spending the next two days looking for signs that I'd injured him until I contacted my midwife who was extremely bemused and told me it was fine!

Hope you have managed to breathe and calm down, your little one will be totally fine 😊

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 18/12/2024 11:20

Baby will be fine, those newborn trenches are grim I know. It takes a lot to harm a baby with regards to movement. They are quite robust things!
I had a lot of PP anxiety so I know how you feel.
I dropped my baby girl down the stairs in her Moses basket when she was about 3 weeks old. Not as bad as it sounds but still scary but she is a thriving 4 year old now. Take care of yourself momma 💚

Haha that's what I was thinking!

Baby will be absolutely fine

Nejnej · 18/12/2024 11:39

Baby will be fine, biggest risk would have been your pelvic floor (I would have had a leak at that stage!!)

livingafulllife · 18/12/2024 11:40

Some mums go jogging with there babies in prams.
I had to run home once with my baby not in a pram he was strapped to the front of me 8 weeks old.
Caught in a unexpected storm so zipped jacket up and i legged it.
I would have waited it out but there was nowhere to hide i lived like 4 minutes away.
Hes a 21 year old man now no damage done.

CoolPlayer · 18/12/2024 11:43

i wouldn’t worry about that, I remember these little worries that pop up it’s hard when they can’t re assure you they are ok! Xx

Jessbow · 18/12/2024 11:56

in a few weeks time when she wont settle, and all that helps is to jiggle her you'll realise that shes not as fragile as you fear now.

First few weeks are hard, be kind to yourself

Lavender14 · 18/12/2024 11:58

Absolutely fine op but just so you're aware post partum anxiety is really common but also something you don't need to live with. I'd speak to your gp and health visitor about it - talking to mine was the best thing I could have done about my anxiety after having my ds.

DappledThings · 18/12/2024 12:01

When DC1 was a few weeks old and I lived near a big hill I once walked down it backwards so I could keep the pram facing uphill and save his tiny head from I don't know what, pointing down too much? Being too near the end of the bassinet? No idea now but at the time I was terribly worried I'd irreparably damage him by walking normally.

Don't worry OP, lots of have a moment of insane worry when they're so tiny.

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2024 12:24

I have shared this on here before and became semi famous because of the absolute batshittery of it <Preens>
When DD was a few weeks old I got ready to take her for a walk in her pram which obviously took ages. It was January so pretty cold and we were both wrapped up appropriately BUT I had read that to judge if baby was dressed properly for the weather they should be wearing 1 more layer than you. We were both wearing the same amount of layers so I did the obvious thing and took one of mine off.
It was absolutely logical at the time.
I doubt you will top that OP

AlexisP90 · 18/12/2024 13:00

Happens to me when baby was about 7 weeks old. Raincover was on but there was a flap at the back of the bassinet that was letting water in.

Wondering why baby was crying so much ok the short walk home and noticed to my horror he was getting soaked! Ran home crying, got baby out, dried and changed and had a meltdown to be honest...!

He was fine. All was fine. He absolutely loves water now at 2.5 ....!

Skibidee · 18/12/2024 13:17

@SecretSloth99 , I am just stating this so people who want to get back to running understand the difference, but jogging/running with a baby in a pram is not recommended til baby is min.6 mths old . However this is totally different to a one off situation ….both my babies had falls off a changing table / bed ( the first more than once….let’s just say I was terribly sleep deprived !) and the GP reassured me that no harm was caused.

Ohnonotmeagain · 18/12/2024 13:19

I’d be more worried about you than the baby, so soon after birth things are still easy to damage.

i went to baby exercise classes around 3 months where we all ran round the park with our prams :)
