Ran with five week old in her pram?!

Having a panic so looking for some reassurance - baby is five weeks old and I had to run home (way less than 5 mins) with her in her bassinet in the pram, on the pavements. I am now having a meltdown that I’ve done something terribly wrong! Pleaseeee can someone reassure me! 🙏🏻

@Ohnonotmeagain thats really poor practise by the person taking your class.

Well done for being able to run at 5 weeks PP!

You've just reminded me of the time I was round to play with my friend when we were about 10 and she was carrying her new baby brother in the car seat and dropped it. Her step mum went mental and at the time I thought she was really mean because it was clearly an accident. Looking back, for the first time 30 years later, I imagine the step mum was just absolutely terrified. I bet she'd be posting on mumsnet too! Her son is a strapping 30 year old man now! Congratulations on your baby!

@SecretSloth99 , I am just stating this so people who want to get back to running understand the difference, but jogging/running with a baby in a pram is not recommended til baby is min.6 mths old . However this is totally different to a one off situation ….both my babies had falls off a changing table / bed ( the first more than once….let’s just say I was terribly sleep deprived !) and the GP reassured me that no harm was caused.

This is true, but I have various running buggies and I have realised the main reason is that almost no running buggies are suitable to run with when fully reclined. This is because they are not as stable and there is a risk of tipping. Same goes for the bassinet, plus they're not strapped in either. If the baby is sitting up fully, as recommended for running, their necks are not strong enough to support them till at least 6 months. I have a bike trailer with an infant sling seat which is fine as it's both fully reclined and stable. With an older child, I would and do choose to take the small risk of running with the seat reclined for naps, as long as I feel in control on the terrain. The manufacturer's guidance will always say not to, though, as they are covering themselves.

OP, the main risk for you running with a normal pram is if it had tipped over and the baby had fallen out, and that didn't happen so you are fine!

It was 20 years ago tbf.

but also we all had completely lie flat bassinets with head stabilisers or clip on car seats with head stabilisers.

it was on completely smooth tarmac paths and the only running was 1 minute to the next “station”, a bit like circuits.

we weren’t running non stop on rough roads with babies sat up in strollers.

Haha that's what I was thinking!

Baby will be absolutely fine

Me too! How fantastic OP to be able to run at 5 weeks post partum!

Absolutely fine op but just so you're aware post partum anxiety is really common but also something you don't need to live with. I'd speak to your gp and health visitor about it - talking to mine was the best thing I could have done about my anxiety after having my ds.

Thankyou 🙏🏻 I think I do need to do some to address the anxiety; I have health related anxiety as it is and being a FTM is definitely heightening it! Did you do anything specific therapy wise to help yours?

I have shared this on here before and became semi famous because of the absolute batshittery of it <Preens>
When DD was a few weeks old I got ready to take her for a walk in her pram which obviously took ages. It was January so pretty cold and we were both wrapped up appropriately BUT I had read that to judge if baby was dressed properly for the weather they should be wearing 1 more layer than you. We were both wearing the same amount of layers so I did the obvious thing and took one of mine off.
It was absolutely logical at the time.
I doubt you will top that OP

Haha!! I remember that thread!! 🤣

It is of you have issues you need to address the op was way over the top so working on that way help
