Baby won’t settle with me

Hi everyone! I gave birth to my son 3 days ago and trying to take everything one day at a time. Whenever I try to hold him, he just cries unless I feed him even if I’d fed him ten minutes ago and he’s not showing any hunger cues. But he will settle with everyone else.

im just wondering if this is normal? It just feels so overwhelming at the minute

Good news! The days and nights can feel so long with a newborn. They’re demanding little things. If you can, try and enjoy odd moments of calm. Eat chocolate. Watch box sets. Cuddle. And remember he has no idea what he’s doing either.

I need to stop before I get broody for another one….

So pleased you had a better night!

There'll be plenty more times you doubt yourself, but take those wins where you can! Hope you have more highs than lows going forward ♥️

Congratulations @nosh99!

What you describe is very normal, if also totally overwhelming! You're both getting there together, and it sounds like you're making great progress!

For additional support and peace of mind, I'd recommend booking in to see a certified lactation consultant when you're feeling up to it. Midwives are wonderful, but they sometimes lack training in this area. A lactation consultant will be able to assess your baby's latch, (some will also assess whether or not they think baby has a tongue tie and perform any necessary corrective procedure), and give you some pointers on useful positions for feeds. Your health visitor should hopefully have some good recommendations for resources near you, but this is also a useful website: Find an IBCLC -International Board Certified Lactation Consultant - LCGB.

There's no need to go it alone with breastfeeding. It can be a bloody minefield at first, so if you need it, give yourself the gift of help!

Amazing news. He'll go through stages of cluster feeding, to get your supply up again and that's normal. Just growth spurts. Don't stress when it happens just feed whenever he wants and try to relax. It's tiring, my 6 month old is currently going through one, but oh so worth it x
