Do you miss your child/ren when they were little?

I hear lots of people say when they have adult children that they miss their children from when they are little. They would leave their present day to go back. A friend also wants to have a third baby to stay in the little kids bubble for longer.

For those that have grown children do you feel like this?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nope, you couldn’t pay me. It was such relentless grind. Much much better when they are grown up.

I miss holding little hands walking home and I miss the joy they found in unexpected things. The drudgery of young children, I miss that less so.

Yes and no. I would love to step back into those days of having small children- I loved it so much and they were so gorgeous. But I love them as young adults too and also very much aware that when they’re even older I’ll look back at now in the same way, so try to live in the moment. Wonderful memories, wonderful present.

I can barely remember most of my youngest child being small, it was chaotic and years passed in what felt like months, though I do remember individual days seemed very long. Especially during the Fireman Sam phase.

I would love to go back and see them both again. Their squashy cheeks, how thrilled they were by little things, their excitement to see each other in the morning when it was time to get up. And have them sleep on my knee - and pick them up!

So now I try to savour it a bit more, because as you say one day I’ll be nostalgic for teenagers (lol). Am about to burst into Cat’s In The Cradle here, man 😂

I miss my kids when they were toddlers. They were/are beautiful. But I was their hero. Now I'm just a lift or a money money machine. They don't speak to me hardly at all, unless they want money or they complain about dinner. I would gladly go back in time and stay there. My present life is lonely and I have depression. So life seems empty and pointless at times. A time machine would be great.

I miss them seeing me as their world and an afternoon at the park was world's best mummy stuff, but that's about it. I am happy they are not as dependant and holidays are so much better. We've started proper travel again & can just drop at activities & not have to wrangle them.

I see parents with young DC now & think thank god mine are not that age anymore! I'd never go back.

I know this quite an old thread but I just wanted to reply to @JosephFlynn who posted today. I am so sorry you are feeling lonely and depressed. Hopefully your kids are just going through a selfish phase. When they mature a bit more they will start to appreciate you properly I am sure. Take care💐

Dad here. I have three children and they are all adults now. I am proud of them and wouldn't wish to go back, but I definitely miss being with every day and seeing them every day. I think I just wasn't paying enough attention or realizing that time wouldn't last forever.

@JosephFlynn Hey Joseph. Know that you're not alone. I miss my kids as well. I remember when my oldest left 3 years ago. I cried on an off for 3 days. I hope things improve for you. Have you ever shared your feelings with your kids?

Mine’s 14 and I really miss all the things that come with having a little one, Christmas, Halloween, birthday parties. I was heartbroken when she went to secondary school and changed overnight. I went through all the feelings and processed how I felt about my role as a mum now she’s older. We’re in a really good place now…

Aaaand I’m pregnant with my second and super excited to do it all again. I’m glad I went though the emotions though and didn’t just get panic pregnant. I thought long and hard about why I wanted another child. Being a mum can be so complicated in terms of our identities

Wow! Congrats! How you getting on now?
