yoto player

is the yoto player worth it? I have a 19month old who hates bedtime. He’s fine once asleep but it’s getting him to sleep at night which is the problem. This is strange as nap time during the day he is fine. I was thinking of getting him a yoto player I like this idea better than him looking a tablet screen also the fact it can be used as a nightlight. Is he to young? Does anyone have a yoto box is it worth the money?

A lot of parents don't want screens for their children. I certainly don't. Surely a device is worth it if the child loves it

this thread is brought to you by Yoto’s marketing team, right?

Right...

What else can I give my 3 year old child to listen to stories on with handing him an iPhone or iPad? When I was a child I had a cassette player. This is no different.

Well done you if your child carries about their own phone or tablet at 3 years old, but that's not for me.

You're just on the wind-up. You know fine well it's just a device that solves a problem for people who don't use screens with young children. But you're bored and fancy fannying about talking pish on Mumsnet.

I love ours, mainly used for car journeys here. We got the mini for that reason. Bought at 2 but used more from 3.

We've got the normal and the mini. And been given a tonie box.

Definitely yoto over tonie for longevity but at that age I'd think the tonie is a better "toy". My 2.5yo isn't good at looking after the cards and they are easier to lose than the tonies. My 4yo keeps then very safe in a special wallet.

We don't use tech at bedtime though so maybe yoto over tonie for the sleep radio and nightlight functions if you need them.

Mine love the yoto, my eldest can listen for hours, the mini is an absolute godsend for travel. The independence of having the cards and ability to use the machine rather than asking for us to play something makes it much more fun. We love the daily podcast as a 10min treat if everyone's ready for school. My kids don't use tablets so I wouldn't just had them an ipad.

It’s not a necessity but it’s a great nice to have. I bought stick on tabs and a key ring loop thing on Etsy so all the cards are attached together - none get lost and he can flick through himself. I’d say don’t buy one without a plan for the cards! Generally we read stories at bedtime and then if he wants to listen to some more before he falls asleep he can do it independently. We got it for his 3rd birthday - 19 months is maybe a bit young yet. We live overseas and plan on getting grandparents to read stories to put on the “make your own” cards but haven’t quite got round to it yet.

After many attempts at different storage systems, we just use one of these for our cards. They are the perfect size, hold loads of cards and each child has a different coloured lid so they can see whose is whose at a glance. Easy!

Are the stick on tabs quite robust?

Thank you everything and thank you for the code. It’s a shame the mini one doesn’t come with a light otherwise I’d probably purchased that one but I will definitely be getting the original

Fantastic!
We are still loving our box and use it daily. We have so may cards now, it's definitely up there with the best thing I've bought my son! We got a mini as well so we can take it out and about on road trips etc.
Glad to have been of help with the discount Smile

I'm so glad you’re still using it! I hope our son loves his just as much ☺️.
We actually went for the mini so that he can take it on holiday with him but I wasn’t sure if that was the right decision, the bigger one looks really good as well!

No I don't think it makes much difference, just the screen display really and to be honest my son doesn't take much notice of that.

The mini is great for home or out and about 😊

Aimtodobetter · 14/10/2025 14:59

I have the mini instead of the big one - kids have loved it since they were little. I don't use it for falling asleep but I know others how do. Also worth considering if they are napping too much if they are so difficult to go to bed - you might want to reduce the nap.

RedRedRobin1 · 14/10/2025 21:31

That’s good to know, thank you.

It was delivered today! Just got to wait for Christmas now ☺️!
