Baby leaking through nappy every night!

My DS 6 months is waking up every morning wet, his nappy is leaking out of the top. I’m sure they’re the right size as the tabs almost overlap when fastening. I use the pampers premium at night as recommended on here and they used to work really well!

Only thing that’s changed in recent times is DS can roll now and is a real tummy sleeper. Could this be why? Any other ideas?

Would overheating be a concern if wearing two nappies?

Applecrumble24 · 14/10/2024 08:37

I agree with a pp, try pampers pull ups. My daughter is also a tummy sleeper and she always leaked with normal nappies. Haven’t had a single leak since using the nappy pants, they fit better due to the elastic waist

I suggest borrowing a cloth nappy kit from your local NCT. Free, excellent results and won't harm the planet for your baby's generation. They will have night time reusables. All in beautiful patterns and colours. It's addictive.

Not the same, but similar. My toddler was leaking poo ever night (loose poos are on waiting list to be looked at). I was getting so annoyed at changing sheets everyday!

I bought a waterproof nappy wrap and put it over the disposable. When she was weeing the nappy was sagging, leaving gaps for things to escape. The nappy wrap keeps everything tight so no more leaks!

I find Aldi nappies leak even in the day so there’s no way one would last all night, goes to show every baby is different I suppose! It’s this specific issue of leaking from the top that never happens in the day making me wonder if there were any tips on how to stop it. The pampers were working great until he learnt to roll and started tummy sleeping.

do they do nappy pants in size 1 or 2? If so, try them. I find actual nappies useless.

I do change my 6 month old at 10pm otherwise he tends to leak some nights. It doesn’t take long and then I just feed him back to sleep

ValentinesDayCryingInTheHotel · 14/10/2024 09:27

Also I find Aldi leak

i hate the weird chemical smell of pampers when they’ve weed

but I really love Rascalls from Tesco. A bit more expensive but they have such great coverage. My leaks reduced to near enough nothing when we bought them. I couldn’t believe the difference between them and supermarket own brand. I swear by the nappy pants.

Newuser75 · 14/10/2024 09:40

I had this problem with my youngest.
Try putting the nappy on backwards.
Try Aldi or Lidl nappies
Try cloth nappies or using the waterproof cover over the top of the nappy.

InTheRainOnATrain · 14/10/2024 09:48

Oh bless him 13lbs and size 2 nappies at 6 months is teeny tiny and that’s probably your problem. Most babies of that size are probably more like 2-3 months old so still wake a couple of times to feed, and can be changed then. You could try a cloth liner but really you probably just need to plan to change him until he’s a bit bigger and can fit a larger nappy that can hold more pee.

I had this with my ds and I never found a solution other than to double nappy with one round the waist where it was leaking. Size 2 does sound too small though, my dd is now 5 months and is small but is in size 3. The other thing that people suggested was if the vest was either too small or too big. And like everyone’s said make sure his penis is down. I feel your pain though, it was the most frustrating thing to have to change everything every night when he probably would have slept through!

skkyelark · 14/10/2024 10:05

We had this problem, as DD2 is somehow very small in the nappy area despite being pretty average size overall. We mostly use reusables, but when we have needed to use disposables, a reusable wrap over the top helps a lot with stopping leaks from fit issues. I'd see if you have a nappy library near you, then you can try a few wraps over the top of a disposable and see which ones you prefer.

CheeseWineBainne · 14/10/2024 10:07

I have also heard that if the vest size is too small it can cause nappy leaks. Worth making sure his vests are long enough and not compressing the nappy

I find Pampers rubbish

They are double the cost of many other brands

I'm a maternity nurse and many clients over the years have said the same

Aldi nappies are great for non leaks

It's no more than preference and fit. Every child is different. My son has only ever been in pampers, has never had leaks, and was in their pull ups from an early age. I can't be bothered with taped nappies.

Saying they're rubbish is like saying a certain make of bra is rubbish. Everyone is different.

Go up a size

RevelryMum · 14/10/2024 11:28

This happens when I use pampers I hate them I find kit & kin good for night time personally
