Baby leaking through nappy every night!

Tomorrowtomorrowtomorrow · 14/10/2024 06:42

My DS 6 months is waking up every morning wet, his nappy is leaking out of the top. I’m sure they’re the right size as the tabs almost overlap when fastening. I use the pampers premium at night as recommended on here and they used to work really well!

Only thing that’s changed in recent times is DS can roll now and is a real tummy sleeper. Could this be why? Any other ideas?

If the tabs are overlapping the nappy could actually be a bit too big rather than a bit too small and leaking because it's loose?

bungletru · 14/10/2024 06:46

If he’s a tummy sleeper make sure his penis is pointed down when you put the nappy on.
try pamper baby dry. They’re great!
I was going to suggest you size up but the nappy tabs overlap so maybe not.

Tomorrowtomorrowtomorrow · 14/10/2024 06:50

He’s 6 months old and they’re size 2 nappies, he is tiny but I don’t think I can bring myself to go back to size 1! They are the pampers baby dry but the premium protection. Until he started sleeping on his tummy they were great.

Change him when you go to bed. Is the nappy soaked and heavy or is this a genuine fit issue?

Tomorrowtomorrowtomorrow · 14/10/2024 06:51

I think the fit is the issue. I really don’t want to have to wake him up when we go to bed. I posted about it on another thread once and everyone thought I was mad to be changing his nappy then and waking him up?

If he's leaking every night then they aren't working well 🤔

Have you tried sizing up for night time, so try a size 3?

Or cloth nappies like Totsbots bamboozle? Or ever simply a nappy wrap on top of the disposable? (which is just the waterproof outer layer for reuseable nappies).

If he's leaked by time you go to bed then change him. If his nappy feels full by the time you go to bed then change him. If he's pooped then change him. Otherwise, leave him to sleep!

💯 size up
my DS was in 4s and 20-30th centile at that age
my dd was 80-90th and in 5s

modgepodge · 14/10/2024 07:15

Size 2 at 6 months sounds really tiny, my baby was out of those at about 2-3 months? Is he a very small baby? I haven’t yet managed to find a disposable which lasts all night without leaking, when we went on holiday I had to change him during the night. Usually use cloth nappies but I appreciate that’s a big decision. Maybe just experiment with other brands?

Thingsthatgo · 14/10/2024 07:17

Where is he leaking? Round the legs or the top of the nappy near his tummy?

Gamechanger2019 · 14/10/2024 07:17

See if they do nappy pants in his size, they helped with my front sleeper but can’t remember from what age/size

ramalamabangbang · 14/10/2024 07:18

With my ds as a baby, I used to put one on normally and then another one on top but backwards. Think I read about that tip here on MN! I also got some of those bamboo reusable inserts that go with cloth nappies to help. It always seemed to be when he was slightly too small for the next size up but too big for the current size and all brands did it.

Tomorrowtomorrowtomorrow · 14/10/2024 07:37

He is tiny he only weighs 13lb. I will try the two nappy trick. I don’t think they’re too small as the tabs are almost overlapping! He always leaks out of the top.

Ohthatsabitshit · 14/10/2024 07:43

The nappy sounds too big. I’d change him if his nappy is wet whatever time it is. I think it’s weird to leave anyone in a soiled nappy.

Pandasnacks · 14/10/2024 07:45

Try a different brand or different size. It doesn't matter that you don't want to go back a size, if that's his size use it! Other than that I always found pampers leaked but the Lidl own brand ones were excellent. Not sure why!

Imisscoffee2021 · 14/10/2024 07:47

My son moves alot at night so we put him in pampers pant nappies (they come on very small sizes) at night as the elastic waist conforms and moves with the baby. He was older than your son though but you can get pants for younger babies.

At 6 months though he was still getting nappy changes in the night after or before feeds, though our kiddo is a rubbish sleeper so he was up a few times which gave us the opportunity the change his nappy once in the middle of the nightm

WhatsTheMatterDavid · 14/10/2024 07:48

We've had leaks in all nappies with my first until we tried Sainsbury's. Used Sainsbury's from the beginning with our second and had maybe 2 leaks in the 11 months she's been here. I'd try different types of nappies and see how you go.

Ellerby83 · 14/10/2024 07:51

Different brands suit different shaped babies so try some different ones though if the tabs are overlapping sounds as though they are too big.

Ygfrhj · 14/10/2024 07:52

Try different brands. Bodies are all different shapes, maybe this brand just doesn't work for him right now.

StarShine23 · 14/10/2024 07:56

We didn't like pampers and found they leaked too. We like the supermarket own brands best. And i agree pull ups are better for tummy sleepers.

BobbyDazzler11 · 14/10/2024 07:57

My boy leaked terribly - I had to find nappies specifically for boys.

GlitteryFarts · 14/10/2024 08:08

Another vote for sainsburys own brand. Pampers leaked for all 4 of my boys so always ended up back on supermarket own brand n they were perfect!

NeverTalksToStrangers2 · 14/10/2024 08:12

As one of the earliest posters mentioned... Are you pointing his willy downwards?

TheFairyCaravan · 14/10/2024 08:22

DGS is a tummy sleeper too and was about six months when he started waking up soaked every day. DDIL &DS2 put a sanitary towel horizontally across the top of the nappy which seems to stop it. I was a bit confused, when I saw how they did it, because back in the day when DS1 used to wake up soaked you could buy nappy booster pads which went vertically down the nappy. I thought that was what they were doing but it seems not.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2024 08:25

I find Pampers rubbish

They are double the cost of many other brands

I'm a maternity nurse and many clients over the years have said the same

Aldi nappies are great for non leaks
