Question in title. She eats sitting up.

Does her bed not get crumby? It's a bit gross.

Grepes · 09/10/2024 17:21

Breakfast in bed? Sometimes we all have breakfast in bed together, but I do it in a Sunday when I change the sheets as the 3yr old is a bit crummy.

SummaLuvin · 09/10/2024 17:22

we were never allowed and I agree with that, for most kids there is just no need.

is there more to it? what reason is there for eating while in bed? Like my FIL will take an apple to bed as he has to take tablets following food at 11:30pm, or my pregnant SIL has awful nausea so now keeps crackers on the bedside table to quell that, but other than those sorts of things I wouldn't.

Just slovenly. Do you not have a table?

Comedycook · 09/10/2024 17:22

Only if they're unwell and having a sick day.

Otherwise definitely not...it's a really bad habit

Pandasnacks · 09/10/2024 17:22

What do you mean by ok? Like choking hazard wise? Or just in terms of house rules?

Beamur · 09/10/2024 17:25

As a general rule? No, not ok. Bit gross and unhygienic.
Occasional breakfast in bed? Ok.
Ill? Ok.

Attelina · 09/10/2024 17:25

Why? Unless she's an invalid and even then a small table and chair in the room would be nicer than eating in bed.

Peonies12 · 09/10/2024 17:26

No I don’t think so. We only ever eat at the table, adults and kids

MiddleAgedDread · 09/10/2024 17:27

it's not ok for anyone to eat in bed really unless they're really unwell or have a disability

Why isn't breakfast in bed ok?

Mindymomo · 09/10/2024 17:31

I let my 2 sons eat snacks in bed, but proper meals were always eaten downstairs, lunch sandwiches were ok on laps seated on sofas, but evening meal was always all of us at the dining table, as that was the only time we got to hear about their day and have discussions.

caringcarer · 09/10/2024 17:32

DH brings me breakfast in bed very occasionally if he has to get up early and go off to work and I'm awake he'll ask if I'd like some toast with my cup of tea. He also brings me breakfast in bed on my birthday but he's bought croissants especially for me for that. I would only give DC food in bed if they were poorly.

WonderingWanda · 09/10/2024 17:36

No as a general rule. Yes if unwell or having a treat birthday breakfast but normally I would say they should be eating downstairs. My kids generally aren't allowed food upstairs.

AgainandagainandagainSS · 09/10/2024 17:37

No way! Children need to learn table manners!

coxesorangepippin · 09/10/2024 17:38

Not the best

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/10/2024 17:39

I agree with the posters who have said it is OK for an occasional treat or if the child is ill, but not on a regular basis, @SierraNose.

MummyJ12 · 09/10/2024 17:39

If they aren’t well or if it’s breakfast in bed then I would say yes, it’s fine.

Bumcake · 09/10/2024 17:40

Unless there’s a need for it I think it’s a bit grotty.

Joycedelight · 09/10/2024 17:41

I don't think anyone should be eating in bed.

Fuck.

InTheRainOnATrain · 09/10/2024 17:46

It’s a bit grim- crumbs all over the sheets etc. so it wouldn’t be something I’d make a habit of for any member of the household, a one off if unwell at most, but I wouldn’t be concerned about choking if that’s what you’re getting at.

user2848502016 · 09/10/2024 17:46

Safety wise? Yes it's fine
It is quite gross though unless it's a one off treat or someone's birthday

arthar · 09/10/2024 17:50

You probably need to add some context OP as situations are variable. I would have done anything to get my middle child to eat; so if that meant in bed, so be it.

MrsSunshine2b · 09/10/2024 17:57

Why do you care what Mumsnetters think? They are notoriously weird about things like this. If she's happy and you're happy, what's the issue?

Family meal times are important though so I wouldn't let her eat all her meals in bed.
