If your DC had their ears pierced under the age of 2...

How was it?

DC is 18 months and for about 9 months now she loves earrings etc. I feel like she is too young to have her ears pierced and won't understand and might tug on them. I wasn't planning on getting her ears pierced until she was about 5 really. But my mum said my sister and I had our ears pierced around the age of 2. SIL also had her ears pierced as a baby.

The trouble is, @WetBandits , on seeing that term, I always have a mental picture of the German Infantry of WW1.

Hello! Sorry I haven't been replying. I think within reading the first few posts I realised how dumb I was being. Of course you're all right, she gets very curious with jewellery, but is also very curious about EVERYTHING. And yes, I will not pierce her ears unless she explicitly expresses it when she is able to speak!! Gah! I am embarrassed!

Does no one’s school not have a no piercing policy. At DC’s it was no piercing - not even small earring studs- during the school day or at any sports lessons or matches.

to be fair you can get them done at the start of the school summer holidays to give them time to heal and still comply with the school policy.

That’s a complete aside to whether I agree with piercing a baby which I really don’t.

Imo pointless getting ears pierced whilst at school when they can’t be worn. Wait until they have left school

Still a pain in the arse to take them out every day and put them back in the evenings. And if they do a lot of sport they’d end up with them out more than in.

I had mine done as an adult because my mum was very munsnetty about earrings but even if I don't have them in for months they've never healed over. And they were done with a gun same as my dc ( who got theirs done when they asked me ) And all was well. I would wait OP but you're nit the devil incarnate if you do decide nit to.

School lasts until they’re 18. If they get it done as teenagers that’s their problem.

Tiredalwaystired · 07/10/2024 09:22

You’re only allowed one set of ear piercings if you’re a nurse too - and just plain studs. I don’t think anyone is telling nurses that they should never get piercings if they want them.

When someone is old enough to make their own decisions on this, they are perfectly entitled to do so. But I do believe the choice should be autonomous, not forced on them.

Agreed. But at primary why would you bother going through that ballache?

Because I wanted to, I had mine done as a baby aswell including most of my family and my child’s father’s side. Also she’s my child so my decision

I'm sure people who engage in female genital mutilation also have the same argument "my child my choice" ....

Where will it end? We could have toddlers with lip fillers and Brazilian butt lifts! Obviously that’s ridiculous, but no more ridiculous than thinking you can improve the look of a small child by piercing their ears to alter their appearance.
