hi yes we will be taking our first family holiday soon, and i want to get dd some of those sunsuits.

now my question is, which ones are better, and easier to use, the all in ones or the two piece ones?

theres one i really like in adams, pink with a big strawberry on the front(v cute) i like the look of this one best

or theres one in boots which is a top and bottoms, red with a heart on it.

and im thinking, perhaps i should go for the two piece as its easier to get dd changed?
we are going to be on the beach alot and going to the pool alot too.
what do you do about nappies when taking babies on holiday, i was thinking of not using any in the sea. is this what you do?

any advice gratfully recieved

I wondered this too (2 yrs ago!) and it turns out that actually both are fine and no worse than each other EXCEPT if your child decides to take the blooming things off (before the day's swimming is finished) in which case you can't get either the one or two piece back on!

cluckyagain · 20/04/2008 17:58

Ask me now and I would say the one piece though - everso slightly easier.

PandaG · 20/04/2008 17:58

sun suits I find the 2 pieces easier for changing. re nappies, you can always use a swim nappy in te sea, it doesn't hold the wee but does at least control most poo!

For nappies I used the disposable swim ones or if at all trustworthy I let them go commando (in the words of Joey Tribiani!)

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 17:59

two piece def

cluckyagain · 20/04/2008 18:00

Oh - forgot to say - if baby poos in the swim nappy at the pool - run like hell to get them out of the pool and near to a loo - the poo goes really watery and washes around the place VERY quickly.....I say this with experience of almost ruining an entire hotel swimming pool complex as they have to close it, clean it and refill it!

Surfermum · 20/04/2008 18:02

I found the two pieces easier for changing nappies when dd was a baby, but when she was older the one piece was better as the two garments didn't separate to leave a gap if she was bent over digging in the sand.

I used to put dd in swimming nappies whenever we were at the beach.

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 20/04/2008 18:20

oh thanks, so if i take dd in the sea, do you think i need to use a swim nappy?
i think we will be in the sea more than the pool.

whenever we have taken her swimming, here we use the mothercare swimsuit with built in nappy.
and shes never done a poo, although on holiday, i suppose we will be in the sea/pool mor and for longer than we go to the pool here.

After living in Cyprus for the past 2 years I would def recommend the one piece - not for ease of use, they are both the same really when it comes to changing a nappy but from coverage. I have found the all in one safer from protection from the sun, they don't ride up IYSWIM. DD always finds her all in ones more comfortable too.

Whichever one you decide to choose my one bit of advice would be to always rinse them asap when you get home.

I have used swimming nappies until potty trained.

Have a lovely holiday!!

GrapefruitMoon · 20/04/2008 18:26

if you are going somewhere hot you might find the top rides up as they play/bend over - last year ds2 got sunburnt because of this so I've got a one-piece for this year

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 20/04/2008 18:33

ah thanks, thanks for the happy holiday wishes too

should i be using a swim nappy, in the sea aswell as in the pool?

DS tends to stay on the beach digging and isn't too bothered about the sea so I put an ordinary nappy on him.

When and where are you going? The water temp is too cold for a baby/toddler to spend a great length of time in the water (pool or sea) out here at the moment!!

msappropriate · 20/04/2008 18:40

I bought a 2 piece for my son and made sure the top was a bigger size (it was more like a t shirt so it didn't ride up. You could buy them separately on the website I used,

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 20/04/2008 18:54

hi we are going to the maldives in july dd will be just 1, so the sea tmp will be lovely

just don't know what im doing with this whole nappy thing tbh

1piecehere

2piecehere

perhaps i should get both?

OP posts:
spicemonster · 20/04/2008 19:12

I would go for separates so that way you only have to take the bottom bit off to change the swim nappy.

My DS's poos are really regular now at 13m so I can plan my expeditions around them usually and I'm sure you will be able to.

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 20/04/2008 19:17

here

oh thanks, for all your views,im still mixed up! do you think i should also get one of these hooded towels? are they any good?

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:24

hooded towels are ok but I found a terry hoody better as can just be thrown on over a nappy where as a towel would have to be kept shut - ifswim?

that one is more of a poncho which would be perfect, nice and loose and cool but will dry them off and keep them from getting a chill at same time

here

I had something similar to this with a lovely floppy hat for dd1

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:26

why not do that then and just get one of each - you'll find they dry very quickly and if you're like us you'll hire an umbrella and set up camp in one place all day so if need be they can be in the shade too

have a lovely holiday btw

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 20/04/2008 19:33

oh i love those dd, yes im really looking forward to it,but also v slightly apprhensive as its the first holiday abroada with dd. i think ill get both as then i guess i can decide for future hols which ones i get on with best.

thanks for the help

so now i just need to know, if i need to use a swim nappy in the sea? how often do you tend to change nappies on the beach?

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:35

I let mine run free with their bums to the wind! why not?!? its their holiday too lol

what age is your dd?

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 20/04/2008 19:36

she will be 1

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:45

take a packet of nappy sacks and deal with it when it happens lol

we took dd1 just before she turned one, we have family out there, and tbh it was too warm to keep her in a nappy all the time

we had brilliant nappy pants from bhs, really pretty ones but have just tried to look online and they don't show all their clothes online

you'll be the one who worries most about this trust me, as long as she has it on in the pool thats all that really matters

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 20/04/2008 19:49

thanks dd. im sure the next holiday after this one will be easier
so much to sort with the 1st one isn't there? passports, holiday stroller etc.

OP posts:
perpetualworrier · 20/04/2008 20:13

You do need to be a bit careful with the 2 piece suits. Though undoubtedly easier for changing, once they get wet ( or have a heavy nappy inside) , the bottom half can slip down a bit, leaving a gap, esp if child is bending to dig in the sand. My friend's DS got a really nasty band of sunburn round his middle.
