So, how many wipes do you use to clean a pooey bottom? I think I am incompetent!

I can quite happily use 4 or 5, but then I realised how expensive they are, blimey! And my mum and my SIL can use 1 and clean it perfectly so I think I am A Bit Crap At This.

(I use cotton wool mainly, but I find it just moves the poo around, sorry if TMI!)

I easily use 4 or 5 too (obviously depending on consistency of poo!) We used to use cotton wool because of DS's excema but wipes are so much easier.

I know what you mean - we get through loads and it seems so wasteful and expensive. I try to get them when they're on offer.

millions!
sometimes easier to stand him in the bath & hose him down

I would only ever use 1-2.
Trick is to use the nappy to remove most of it.

BellaBear · 18/04/2008 12:27

aha, clever.

I tried just using one and found I just got poo everywhere

Is it just a boy thing??

I don't remember going through quite as many with DD as I do with my son...

StealthPolarBear · 18/04/2008 12:29

i have a ds
when it's fairly solid can get most of it with nappy
last few weeks he has had D&V!

BellaBear · 18/04/2008 12:30

interesting theory (and adds to me not just Being Crap At This)

Have you thought about using fleece wipes ? All you need is a cheap IKEA type blanket cut into wipe size rectangles. I soak mine in camomile tea and store them in a tupperware type lunch box. You only need one or two per nappie. Throw them in a bag and wash with your washing. Then use again. My blanket cost £2 and the camomile tea costs about £1.00 a box every 6 months or so. Cheap, good for the environment and my baby has never had naapy rash .

BellaBear · 18/04/2008 12:31

that was to nagapie

yes, washable wipes - have an old towel cut up, but so far have just used them to contain the fountains of wee

camomile tea eh? great idea!

or indeed nappy rash

Nagapie · 18/04/2008 12:34

I try to be green when it comes to all things, but I do draw the line at poo ...

BellaBear · 18/04/2008 12:39

I'm sure there's a joke in there about green poo ....

Thought the same as I was posting

MrsBadger · 18/04/2008 13:04

One to wipe and one to dry, but I do sometimes use some loo roll to get the worst off (then use to scrap poo into loo and flush)

but I use cotton flannels so you get a lot more wiping per, er, wipe. I found flannel much better than fleece for getting poo off - it's the rough texture. Can never be arsed making cammomile tea so just use water.

Dip the whole flannel in water or run under tap and wring out, use one corner, fold over to get clean surface, use new bit, fold again etc

tiredAli · 18/04/2008 13:18

I use loads. Got poo under my fingernails once by trying to scrimp on wipes. Never again - 2 at a time for the sticky ones.

BellaBear · 18/04/2008 13:59

Noy just me then!

Think I may switch to the flannels when at home

ChasingSquirrels · 18/04/2008 14:01

usually 1, sometimes 2 and v v occasionally more.

PuppyMonkey · 18/04/2008 14:02

I use loads. DD2 shits for Britain. "Use the nappy to get most of it off first?" ha ha ha. Not with my dd's poos. Not a square inch left on the blardy things when she has one of her explosions...

sophiebbb · 18/04/2008 14:03

hundreds and hundreds.....

BellaBear · 18/04/2008 14:08

oh good

thought I was weird

SpecialOffer · 18/04/2008 14:11

I use loads, my son also explodes out of his rear end......

Might try the loo roll idea on his next nappy.

jazzandh · 18/04/2008 15:08

I used to put a couple of sheets of kitchen roll under DS on a changing mat and sort of rinse him down with really wet lumps of cotton wool. Get rid of yucky kitchen roll, and freshen up with baby flannel.

Much cheaper than baby wipes - which I only ever resorted to when I was out.. and flannels only used to dry off - so easy to hot wash.

DS breastfed so don't think I ever got a "solid" pooh!!

tigana · 18/04/2008 15:11

I use 1 or 2, with (careful) folding and using all 'clean' parts of each one. 3 or 4 is a bad poo.
DH uses 412 per nappy as far as I can tell This s because he is a wuss about poo and fears that if he gets the merest waft of poo near his skin he may die. I however am awaeriof the cleansing affects of handwashing with soap and water so am able to cope. again.

EyeballsintheSky · 20/04/2008 20:00

OMG I use half a packet. I have them spread out around me, carpeting the floor! Never thought of using loo roll to scrape the worst off...
