Hi, I wonder if I'm panicking for nothing or if I should commit suicide for inadvertently injuring my newborn. I visited a friend over the weekend, while leaving their flat, we needed to carry my newborns pram, with newborn, down the 3 wee steps in his building. He dropped the front wheels off the last step! The pram jerked down instead of being set down gently. My baby was asleep, she more startled and jerked awake and cried out. She settled quickly after, she travels well in her pram, enjoying the gentle shoogling. I'm so worried now though. I keep googling shaken baby syndrome. Has anyone else done this? My baby is eating well, responding well, she's been a bit irritable today but she has had a bit of a blocked nose. I'm panicking, I feel like the worst mother. Like I should just kill myself and be done with it. I'd really rather die than have caused my baby any harm.
Please, genuinely advise.

Hello OP,

We're so sorry that this happened and you're feeling this way. We feel for you. It's not easy.

We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources.
You can also go to the Samaritans website, or email them on [email protected].

We have some more information about postnatal depression here. We also wanted to share Mind’s information with you – it has practical tips on what you can do when you feel like this and where to get urgent help. Maybe take a look and see if there’s anything that might be helpful right now.

Please do think about exploring some of the options in the links above. You might also want to look at Mumsnet's Postnatal health board or our section on Sleep.

Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you - if you are really struggling it's really a good idea to seek real-life help and support as well.

We also like to remind everyone that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.
