Travel buggy for tall 3 year old.

daughter will be 4 in November. She hasn’t used a buggy for over a year but we’re going on holiday next month and think we will need it for walks in the heat and in the evening. She’s about 104cm, I’d like something reasonable light weight and for her to be able to lie down comfortably (although I appreciate her feet will stick out the bottom!) we have a baby jobber city tour which we will be taking for our 1.5 year old, she’s looking a bit big for that these days. I’ve heard good things about silver cross pop or silver cross reflex, can’t anyone recommend? Hoping to buy second has as obviously will be seldom used!

I had a silver cross reflex for tall son. I wanted something with a high enough back so his head didn't hang off the back when lying flat. Did the job for about a year, he just had to keep his feet on the footrest when he got even taller.

Thank you. What age was your son when he was able to sit in it comfortably?

Ds is 4. He still fits in the babyzen yoyo when needed. He comfortably napped in it several days on our last long trip 2 months ago . He’s about 105cm

@Anonymous2224 I literally just came on to post almost exactly the same question 😂😂 so thank you for posting! Also got a tall almost 4 yo (Nov birthday)! Hanging around hoping for some recommendations!

I emailed our local pram shop and they recommended Nuna TRVL or Nuna TRVL LX for cabin approved ones. Or the Cybex Beezy if you’re not bothered about it having to come in the cabin. We had a similar looking Cybex which he now doesn’t fit in so I don’t know how reliable those suggestions are but could be worth a look. They’re a bit more than I was hoping to spend as ours is just for 2 short trips

PurBal · 28/07/2024 20:23

Depending on who you’re flying with, I’ve taken the Beezy in the cabin.

He was 2 and a half and 100cm when I bought it. He was comfortable in it straight away.

whereimfrom · 28/07/2024 20:35

I use a silver cross pop.
I have a very tall 2 yo and he'll be comfortable for a good few years. His big sister sat comfortably in it yesterday for a little bit.

We actually used to have a cyber beezy and we ended up selling it, I wasn’t a fan and it wasn’t particularly big for tall children so I would avoid that one if I was you! Good luck on your search. I might visit our local pram centre to get her to sit in a few before buying second hand.

My 6YO at ~120cm could still fit in the YoYo when her little brother was walking and she fancied a rest.
Edit: little brother is 3 and 100cm tall and has lots of space

Bugaboo butterfly is good for tall kids! Has one of the longest seats I believe. They are pricey tho

@Anonymous2224 Yeah we had the Eezy S Twist 2 which is similar and I wasn’t a huge fan! Hes too big for it now anyway though.
Im going to our local pram place tomorrow so I’ll report back if we find a winner. Ive read decent things about the Baby Jogger City Mini GT/GT2 so might try those!

FoxtrotSkarloey · 28/07/2024 22:42

How much does she weigh? At that age, she's probably above the weight limit for truly lightweight strollers.

We've got a Pop, and we bought it because it has one for the higher weight limits and with the double wheels is good on rough terrain. I can't fault it, but it's not I would call light weight. It's not heavy though, because it's a push chair and not a travel system... it depends what your frame of reference is.

Anonymous2224 · 28/07/2024 22:42

A lot of recommendations for the yoyo, even second hand it’s quite pricey though, although as I said we have a 1 year old so would probably get decent use out of it over the next few years, definitely something to look into!

She’s tall but quite slim, she’s only just 15kg, I know a lot of them are up to 15kg but I would hope they would collapse at 15.1kg 😂🫣

yoyo expensive but we have used it as every day buggy for over 3 years now! Just turned it back to a pram for my newborn - we plan to just use it for both kids on our holiday in a few months time when we turn it forward facing for the baby! Then both can use it if tired - and we have the buggy board on the back ! Bit nervous not having 2 buggies in case both want a nap at the same time - but I’ve the carrier for the baby as a back up and think it’s gonna work

mt daughter is 105cms too and fits fine in the YOYO stil and can sleep in it no problems

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 28/07/2024 22:51

Silver cross pop. Travel bag for it is £30 online and airline staff assume it's golf clubs and treat it very well!

Ours did over 100,000 air miles and still looked brand new when I passed it on.

My almost 6 year old still fitted in it before I gave it away.

It was very light to push, huge basket and very robust. You can also buy replacement parts easily if required.

@Theyweretheworstoftimes I’ve seen a few people recommend this now - do you mind me asking about the wheels? I was trying to avoid anything with such small wheels as I thought they looked flimsy but are that actually ok? I’m looking for a cheap buggy to take on a couple of holidays - one being a Disneyland trip with a 4yo who is on 75th centiles, so I want something comfy that he can rest in/have a nap if he wants and something that isn’t going to buckle with a bigger child in it. Is the back height ok? I couldn’t fit the hood over his head without making him duck down in the Cybex buggy we had 😅

Somuchgoo · 28/07/2024 23:12

Bugaboo butterfly has the largest seat of any travel stroller (and the second largest in the entire market). It's expensive and it doesn't recline well though. It's seat is about 10cm taller than most.

The pop is ok, but we found it to small after about 1m to lie down comfortably for a nap. Again seat is 10cm shorter than the bugaboo.

The largest seat is the Phil and teds sport v6, though the seat design means there's not as much sleeping area as you might want. It's also huge. It (mostly) met our very specific needs, but I hate how it takes up most of the bot, and Ur can be quite fiddly.

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 28/07/2024 23:57

@littleoldme3 the pop was my best baby buy.

I have never had an issue with the wheels taken it to beaches, cobbled cities, deserts, it was even warm and cosy in a Polar vortex and it fitted in every rental car I had and every taxi ride I took.

Also most hotel and airline staff could fold it easily which was a game changer when travelling alone with small child.

I never had an issue using it in any country I travelled to, it worked on every surface we tried it on. It's also light enough to pick it up with child in it when you have no option but to use the stairs.

I replaced one wheel (slight mishap in a Canadian Airport) it was easy to replace the part and silver cross sent it out really quickly.

I have a tall almost 6 year old who still got in it easily, the straps extend and can be very loose for an older child.

I can't fault it and the range of accessories are great.

Probably could have sold it for what I paid for it but gave it away with all the accessories.

Tiredsendcoffee · 29/07/2024 00:51

Why don't you get him one of those bikes you can push instead?

Caspianberg · 29/07/2024 06:12

The yoyo is tall as it has a higher canopy than most. So even if they are taller they fit long than most.

The yoyo is up to 22kg. My just 4 year old is 15kg. So he will definitely outgrow by age and height before weight. And it’s allowed even on Ryanair as hand luggage. They just ask if it’s a yoyo and no problems, I have seen other ‘hand luggage’ type prams refused. The bugaboo butterfly folds both larger and heavier

As a comparison we also have a mountain buggy and Ds now hit the shade height wise, and doesn’t on yoyo

Caspianberg · 29/07/2024 06:16

@Tiredsendcoffee as they can’t nap in those at 4am at airport. Op wants its for travel.
My own 4 year old doesn’t use a pram daily. But I still take it on holidays until now as it’s often early or late nights with flights or leaving early to drive . Plus longer full on days out in heat or long walking. I will still take jogger pram out on long walks longer than 4-5km as I can’t carry him

littleoldme3 · 30/07/2024 03:56

@Anonymous2224 We went to our local pram shop yesterday and had a good try out of lots of buggies - not many that were a good fit at all 😫 DS is 4 in Nov and 75th centile for height and weight.

SilverCross Pop - Fitted ok in the seat with the backrest etc but in the 2 mins he was in it he was already complaining about his feet. His feet were either dangling past the footrest or he was sitting them on top of the wheels which would get very annoying very quickly (for me 😂!). It also felt heavy to push and I wasn’t a fan of the 2 single handles rather than 1.

YoYo - I genuinely have no idea how anyone has used this for an older child 😂 mine looked like he was trying to sit in a dolls pram 🙈 No way he could have napped or anything in it. The sales assistant looked at me like I had lost the plot when I said it had been recommended lots 🙈😅

Bugaboo Butterfly - Was ok. He fitted under the hood but I felt the seat was quite slim and he looked a bit crammed in. And pretty expensive!

BabyJogger City Mini GT2 - Another more expensive option and much less compact than the rest - but by far the best fit. Adjustable foot /calf rest and full recline meant he could fully lie down and be comfy. Were not bothered about ours coming in the cabin with us and have a Disney trip coming up so will be doing long days and want DS comfy so this is what we’re going for. He said this one was the most comfy and found it hilarious being back in a buggy 😂😂

Joie Literax Pro - Probably the next best fit and a more budget friendly option. Just didn’t feel as substantial or handle as well as the BabyJogger.

If you can get to a shop to try some out then I definitely would 😊

Caspianberg · 30/07/2024 05:00

@littleoldme3
You can see my 105cm 4 year old asleep in the yoyo. There’s loads of room. Their head can go all the way up the to orange line still before they are too tall.

I mean yes he’s going to outgrow at some point soon. But he’s about 6 months older that op child, and if she has a 1 year old who will use also it’s ideal.
