I am bored and want to talk slings.

Dd is getting too big and doesn't want to be carried very much anymore.

I love my stash and I am now 17 wks pg.

Really looking forward to putting this one in a sling and sniff her scrummy head.

The website doesn't suggest it's possible.

PuppyDogTails · 13/04/2008 22:01

Now I'm thinking that the Calin Bleu isn't going to be supportive enough for a heavy lump like my DS.

See, told you I'd change my mind. This has been going on for months.

liahgen · 13/04/2008 22:04

yeah that's what i thought.

So what do I get now then?

That's the big question liahgen! I've got an 11 mo and have the same debate.

how old is your baby Puppy? he sounds old enough for a MeiTai. Here is a BabyHawk they are two shoulders carriers. There are quite a few makers out there and you can get the fabric for just about any taste possible. You can even get a second hand one in excellent condition for about 35 quid.

I am assuming that you have not done wraps before so I won't suggest those.

liahgen, i think that a hugabub is just too long to do a hip carry with. not that it is impossible but a shorter wrap is better for that. plus with a heavier baby, it starts to stretch too much with is not good.

depending on your size, a 4.2metre wrap or even a 3.7 will be plenty. a hugabub is over 5metre long.

I think ellaroo does shorter wraps around the 3.7 mark or you can go for a storchenwiege, which I have a weakness for, in the same length.

thanks for that. In your opinion as a proffesssional which is the best and easiet , (once you get the hang of it) to use?

Iam 5ft 5, and baby weighs approz 19lb.

PuppyDogTails · 14/04/2008 08:27

Baby is 11 months and chunky.

For some reason I don't like meitais, they don't look comfortable. I also have a framed back carrier for when we go out on a long walk.

I have toyed with wraps - I made one with some calico I had lying around and have carried DS on my back and hip with it. I'm thinking that it might be easier with lighter fabric designed for the purpose, like as ellaroo or a calin bleu.

PuppyDogTails · 14/04/2008 08:29

Or the Storchenwiege? Looks pretty sturdy for a sturdy boy.

kiskideesameanoldmother · 14/04/2008 08:33

omg puppydogtails. I have carried my 2 stone toddler (asleep) in a mei tai for 4 miles over the top of the Peak District.

I only weigh 8 stone myself. MTs are super comfy. Like a hiking rucksack, it is all about balancing them right on your back so that the weight of the child goes into your hips and down your legs.

But i love storchs too. if your toddler has never wrapped before, they can be uncooperative. Much easier for them to get used to being 'wrapped' in a MT first.

lol, no professional liah, by any stretch of the imagination.

I would go for a 4.2meter wrap. Like already said, storchs are an excellent investment esp if the price of a didymos makes you worry. They are almost indestructible and also more beautiful in real life than on a computer screen.

with a 4.2 you can also do a simple front carry and rucksack carry.

here is instructions for a hip carry. they say you can do it with a 2.6 metre but you'd ahve to be 5 ft tall and a size 6 or 8 for that!

I can do it with a 3.7metre but i am 5ft3 and size 10-ish.

I still think you will have more options for wrapping styles with a 4.2metre long wrap.

will look later for some videos but i am going out today.

Well Kiskidee I'm not sure you are going to get your wrap back anytime soon, ds fell asleep in it and is still asleep, still tangled up in it in his cot!

kiskideesameanoldmother · 14/04/2008 14:51

sounds like he has good taste in wraps then.
