I am bored and want to talk slings.

Dd is getting too big and doesn't want to be carried very much anymore.

I love my stash and I am now 17 wks pg.

Really looking forward to putting this one in a sling and sniff her scrummy head.

Indith · 13/04/2008 20:05

Link won't open for me but if it is the same as this one then yes.

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 20:10

is it the wrap or the sling?!

Ahh...
didymos looks good. I never realsied you shouldn't face them forward. Ds 2 will just have to get used to it!

Wish I could scan photos in, would love to show you all the piccie of ds2 in the sling whilst we were visiting father Christmas in Harrods with ds 1!

Indith · 13/04/2008 20:27

My wrap is an ellaroo, think when it comes ot wraps mainly comes down to woven vs stretchy and then pick the brand with the prettiest fabric! Of course multiple wrap addicts may correct me on that one

kiskideesameanoldmother · 13/04/2008 20:31

dizzy, for a summer baby you can get a calin bleu gauze wrap. they are cooler than the stretch cotton jerseys (moby, hugabub, kari-me) and will last longer but because they don't stretch, takes a little more tweaking to get used to. worth it though!

calin bleus gauze are cool for the summer but as indith says, if you will only get one, maybe an ellaroo. it is thinner than a didymos or a storchenwiege so better for the summer but the didy and storch will be comfy for a heavy 3 yr old and i don't think an ellaroo will take that sort of weight as comfortably.

I think I will go to the Botanic Gardens one then Indith. I will keep dd home from nursery if the weather is good so she can come and have a run around too.

Filly, have you ever tried a Mei tai or a soft structured carrier (SSC)? if an ergo works for you, then other SSCs will too. and I prefer MT over SSC myself but it is down to personal preference for me and for DD because she likes to be able to see over my shoulders and SSCs don't seem to accommodate that.

you're right. i'd go to a slingmeet with a pushchair before i did a BB. [snob, me]

Muppet, how old is your baby now? if he has good head control then you can start to think about putting him in a high back carry. then they can see forward and you do things without his body being in front of yours.

Has anyone tried the Babasling?

I have one and carry DS (28lbs) around in it quite a bit. My neck/shoulder really aches though after about 15 minutes. Just wondering whether this is just because he is so heavy or whether it's a problem with the sling. Would a different one be more comfortable? I'm loathed to spend money on a new one to find it's the same.

TeenyTinyTorya · 13/04/2008 20:51

Thanks for the advice, I will check out the Mei Tai. What is wrong with Baby Bjorn out out interest?

It's one shoulder. The problem I think is that it has a padded shoulder strap which, although it sounds great, means you can't spread the weight as I think you can with a ring sling for example. I do like to carry him on my hip so he can see what's going on.

muppetgirl · 13/04/2008 21:01

Hi again, my lo is 23 weeks. He can hold his head but can't sit up -not even slightly interested!

Indith · 13/04/2008 21:05

Lol muppet, mine didn't bother sitting til 9 months! You can happily put him in a back carry though. Ds used to snooze away in a back cross carry. No way will he sleep in a sling these days though, way too much to look at! If he's tired and I'm taking him for a walk it is the pushchair these days!

I have just been looking on ebay actually Loopy and am shocked at how pricey they all are! I think I would rather pay the extra £5 for a new one (especially knowing how much I could sell it on for).

Tempted to go for a wrap like an ellaroo because it gives me lots of options.

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 21:34

oh my lord, who knew when entering the world of baby slings it could be so confusing

meep

PuppyDogTails · 13/04/2008 21:39

Tell me about it dizzy.

Liking the look of the Calin Bleu now.

Ask me again in 10 minutes and I'll be on something else.

I think if I were starting again with a newborn I would go with the Close.

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 21:41

oh bloody hell puppy what is a close?!?!?! lol

cmotdibbler · 13/04/2008 21:41

Hello ! DS (22 months) has two ToddlerHawk MTs (one TT purple/khaki, and one custom black), and a Freehand Podegai in black cord and red stars.

DH carries too, but not in the Pod- which I am totally loving in a high back carry.

Have been really good about selling slings on - the Yahoo group is fab for that.

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 21:43

ignore me, I have apparently already bookmarked it to look at another day when not so tired
