Ikea antilop for the easiest cleanup after the mess that is weaning

LottieMary · 19/07/2024 16:45

IKEA 💯
we had a fancy one (cosatto?) which reclined slightly for earlier use but it was a nightmare to clean - plastic fabric but stuff got on all the stitching and never came off. Ikeas is amazing - there’s a reason it’s in so many cafes

mummytrex · 19/07/2024 16:46

Agree with re the IKEA Antilop. I had a fancy one initially that was a NIGHTMARE to clean. Then tried the ikea one - game changer. So easy to clean!!

Another IKEA antilop vote here. Gp's bought us a lovely fancy one and it was a complete pain to clean. Antilop was fabulous.

Tiegs · 19/07/2024 16:51

Was told by many people to make sure there is a footstool on the high chair

We had a Stokke Tripp Trapp and a Nuna. Worked great.

FragmentedProvision · 19/07/2024 16:56

Stokke Trip Trap. DD is 24 now, and I am sitting on it at my desk. They look great and last forever.

scrivette · 19/07/2024 16:58

Ikea as recommended above - never needed a foot rest - they weren't in it for hours on end.

Yourethebeerthief · 19/07/2024 17:01

Started with second hand ikea antelop then got the stokke tripp trapp. The tripp trapp is a better investment. Pretty quickly they want to be climbing in and out of the seat themselves.

NannyR · 19/07/2024 17:04

You can buy a footrest online to fit onto the Antilop, or I believe that Asda sell a very similar chair that has a footrest.
I would go for either the Antilop or the Stokke Tripptrapp, the Tripptrapp is more expensive but will be used throughout childhood, you can often buy them secondhand, the Antilop is cheap as chips, does the job and is extremely easy to clean.

Another vote for ikea

User478 · 19/07/2024 17:23

IKEA: use a tea towel and 2 clips to make a foot rest.

You can usually get one from Facebook marketplace for free/under £10

Or a tripp trapp (lots of them on fbook marketplace too, but £50+ rather than £5)

I never liked the tripp trapp and my wriggle bottomed child managed to dislodge the slats in the one we had.

Aren't these expensive??

IKEA Antilop or Stokke Tripp Trapp.

Namechanger385u4p · 19/07/2024 17:25

I hated the antilop. Waaay too flimsy

I have the hauck alpha, it's similar to the trip trap but loads cheaper and imo has a better base

We had an Ikea Antilop which I loved until about 20 months. It’s cheap, robust, looks comfortable, easy to clean, easy to take down and transport. We had a food tray/plate that matched the tray size exactly and coveralls that worked well with it which made clean up even easier. We also bought a footrest on Etsy but after a few months he started kicking it a lot so we took it off. After a while he refused to go in it so we got a second hand Tripp trap which is great because he can get on and off it himself which he is much happier with, he likes the independence, but they are expensive even second hand.

Yourethebeerthief · 19/07/2024 18:35

@Tiegs

Yes the tripp trapp is expensive. But very quickly your child will want to climb in and out of their chair by themselves. The tripp trapp does them for years. The ikea antelop and similar chairs only did us until 18 months.

shardlakem · 19/07/2024 19:57

ikea and if you want a foot rest (you don't need it though) you can get them on ebay/etsy

soupmaker · 19/07/2024 20:03

I loved our Nuna Zaaz high hair. Was so easy to clean. Really comfy and could be used up at the table as well as with its own table. Had a really small foot print. Used for two DC and still looked like new when I sold it. See if you can get one second hand.

flyinghen · 19/07/2024 20:05

We have a Tripp trapp and I do like it but it's not that easy to clean, all the grooves and nooks get full of dirt/dust. However it is lovely and good for independence as they get older! I'd go for a wood/wood stain one as our white painted one has chips in the paint. An antelop or whatever it's called followed by a booster will work just fine too! Depends on your budget!

I don't intend on keeping our Tripp trapp past my kids being able to use an adult chair so that level of longevity isn't there for me but they sell well and I'm into my second baby using it now!

calishire · 19/07/2024 20:08

Stokke Tripp Trapp. We had an ikea one but the Tripp trapp last forever, we have two and bought them both secondhand
