Aren't these expensive??

Yes, but we bought ours without all the attachments once they outgrew the highchair, which made it much cheaper. Technically that's not supposed to be til 3 I think but both of ours were ok in it sooner than that, but neither are escape artists! Our 6yo and 4yos still use theirs, it's a much better height for them. Pricey, but literally years of use.

We had the IKEA highchair which was perfect. Pretty sure you can get it with a footrest now but we never had that.

We have a Tripp Trapp and it's been great. DS is nearly 6 and he still uses it.

mondaytosunday · 19/07/2024 20:24

Never had a standalone one. I used two: one you attached to the side of the table, and one that attached to the chair. After they grew out of that it was a regular chair with a cushion for height.

IKEA, honestly don't over complicate it and buy an expensive one as they are just a nightmare to clean.

TemuSpecialBuy · 19/07/2024 20:28

I hate the trip trap 😮 there I said it.

it doesn’t need to “do you for years” my Dd eats at our dining table with us and is not yet 2.5. We got a born booster for £5 second hand.

we went for a pimped out ikea antilop. Etsy foot rest and a catchy (google it)
It does the job immaculately

Nat6999 · 19/07/2024 20:55

I had a Chicco Happy snack, it folds down so doesn't take up too much room.

Dyra · 19/07/2024 21:12

Another one for the IKEA Antilop. My first was in it until she was three, and only because we needed it for her brother. Said brother was out of it before he was two. He wanted to sit on a big chair like the rest of us, and god forbid you offered him a cushion.....

veritusvarity · 19/07/2024 22:05

Can't remember the name, but it clicked into two parts so could convert from high chair to table and chair, making it really functional. It was also light to move.Easy to clean, easy to put a mess mat underneath and easy take baby, then toddler in and out. It was also very stable and dd learned to climb in and out very quickly!
I got it off eBay for £15. I vaguely think it may have been called a 'Jane high chair' but I might be misremembering, it was a long time ago😂

AegonT · 19/07/2024 22:42

We've got the IKEA one and no complaints except we trip over it sometimes. We bought a wooden footrest. The TrippTraps look lovely - we just couldn't justify the price difference on our budget.

PurpleBugz · 20/07/2024 00:12

Stokke Tripp trap.

Look on eBay or fb market place.

It's worth it. They grow with your child. Can be turned around and used to stand on when baking etc and turn into normal chairs for older children but with foot support.

I sit on one myself lol. They can take 18 stone!

If out of budget get one that's going to be easy to clean- including easy to remove and machine washable straps

Ihateslugs · 20/07/2024 02:39

My daughter has just bought the Tripp Trappe second hand off FB Marketplace for £50, it has the baby seat attachment as well. As baby is only 12 weeks old, it’s stored in the loft until needed but she said she could not miss the bargain!

in fact, she has bought very few new baby things, other than the car seat and new mattresses for a cot, a Moses basket and the next to me. Her family have struggles to know what items we were able to buy for the baby, she even bought some amazing bundles of baby clothes but I couldn’t resist buying some cute new things!

Stokke Trip Trap. So many young children I know who have eating problems and won’t sit at the dining table sat/sit in chairs without footrests and that aren’t ergonomic. If you’re not comfortable, it’s so much harder to want to be at the table and eat.

I don't have social media so can't look on market place which is a shame

IKEA. Simple is best. And it was a good price. Very easy to clean, lightweight, easy to use.

How long can the baby sit in this one

There is a reason so many places use the IKEA highchair and that is because it works.

Honestly whilst a tripp trapp might be nice there is no need for a highchair to last year's and grow with the child. Even my tiny 2 centile dot of a child was sitting at the dining table by the time he was two albeit with a nice booster cushion.

NowIam35 · 20/07/2024 09:39

@Tiegs my boy is still using it at 18months so he's been in it a year at least now.
A lot restaurants and cafes also use the IKEA one so it means he is familiar with it when eating out too.

Namechanger385u4p · 20/07/2024 10:32

We have the Hauck Alpha - which is a cheaper trip trap and my 4/6 yos still use it. I treated myself to some fancy dining chairs so have banned the kids (would like to ban DH 🤣) and their messy hands/pens/dropped forks from them haha. I also like to sit on them myself sometimes as "perching" with the footrests feels very comfy.

The antilop my kids climbed out of before age 1 although they are "spirited" so a more compliant child might suit it better!

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/07/2024 10:39

Tripp trapp. Dts are 13 and do their homework in them, when I work from home use one of them.

GodspeedJune · 20/07/2024 10:42

If you go for the ikea one then please buy a footrest. It’s not just for comfort, it’s important to have somewhere to brace your feet if you’re gagging or choking on something.

TheFairyCaravan · 20/07/2024 10:49

We’ve got this one at home for when DGS visits. He was only just 6mths old when he went in it, he is chunky though, and he seemed very comfortable in there. It’s great because it folds down so easily and stores away.

He has this one at home which is lovely but it’s obviously more expensive

BizzyMissy · 20/07/2024 17:48

Tripp trapp for sure! Buy second hand (I sold second hand on gumtree recently for £70 and it was in immaculate condition). We used it from weaning to 6 years old. One of our best baby buys.
