Buggy/pushchair for 4yo (Disneyland trip)

Visiting Disneyland Paris. DS will have just turned 4. Being advised on loads of DLP groups to take his buggy even if he doesn’t use one it at home as it made the long days of walking so much easier, plus great for getting back and forward from the hotel (we’re about a 15min walk away) and taking supplies for the day.

DS doesn’t have a buggy anymore. Can anyone recommend one that might work for him at this age? He’s around 75th centile for height and weight. Thinking I could look out for a secondhand one then pass it on to family 🤞🏼

We used to use a McLaren techno XLR for holidays/days out up to that age but that was a few years ago, I'm not sure they're still available (perhaps EBay). Even my mum sat it in when she twisted her ankle when we were out once!

PancakeClock · 30/06/2024 09:10

Have you checked if you can hire one there? I'm pretty sure you can in Florida...

PortiasBiscuit · 30/06/2024 09:11

We took our old McLaren, absolute godsend. Our six year old rested in it too.

I'd hire one there. We saw much bigger kids using those last summer

Inyourwildestdreams · 30/06/2024 09:40

Thanks guys 😊 I did think about hire but I had seen some people say you can’t guarantee availability? 🤔 I didn’t fancy risking it! I’ll maybe contact DLP and confirm. Thanks 😊 I’ll look at the McLarens too

We had a kiddy one that had a max weight limit of 15kg but both kids sat in it, it trundled over 30kg around for a week. It was a machine 😄

@Tarantella6 😂 it sounds like a machine! We have a Cybex one (Eesy s twist I think 🤔) that he hasn’t used since he was about 2.5. I tried him in that the other day (he’s now 3.5) and it felt like it was going to keel over everytime I turned it 😂 and I had to get him to bend his head down to fit under the hood 😂

Cant seem to get a second hand McLaren anywhere near me at the moment unless I want a mouldy one 🤢 but I’ll keep an eye out. We’d rather buy and take one with us than rely on hiring one at the park I think

The ones you hire there are pretty rubbish and very uncomfortable I'd definitely take one.

We've not long returned and the pram was a godsend for our 4yr old no way would he have walked. We have a Joie one still and that was great, I'm sure he was over the weight limit but it was fine.

mangobe · 03/07/2024 13:12

Search Pass on a Pushchair - Disneyland Paris on fb, OP ☺️ people post when they are leaving pushchairs once their trip is over for others to take free

@elb1504 what kind of size is your 4yo if you don’t mind me asking? Do you know what model of Joie one you have? Ive seen a few at decent prices but worried to order and he doesn’t fit it 😅

@mangobe Thank you. I’ll have a look 😊

@Inyourwildestdreams He's about 17kg and 104cm ish. The one we have is the Joie Literax not super cheap one but we had it already. May be able to pick something up off marketplace though.

When we went we hired one as DD ended up being under the weather and we're great for what we needed, it fit my size 16 self in it comfortably and was useful for leaving non-valubles like our lunch etc when we were on rides. They don't lay back though they have a thick metal heavy duty frame, almost like a wheelchair really. Its worth noting you can't take them between the parks or to the hotel. You take your receipt/ticket to the hire section at the entrance and pick it up so no good for evening trips back to the hotel.

I would get a transporter and put a bench seat cushion (or a couple of pillows from the room) in the bottom. The are super useful for days out and beach trips so you'll get more use out of it than a buggy and fold up small

@Singleandproud Thank you! That’s helpful 😊 DH suggested one of the pull along wagons but I wasn’t sure if they were allowed!

I’ve just come back from Disneyland Paris with DD7 and DS who is 4 next month. You definitely need one - he doesn’t use his anymore at home but we did 25k steps some days and it’s more for little legs. We were also 15 mins walk from the park and he rode there and back, and also getting between lands and if it was very busy he was safer in there with loads of people around. Also a handy seat to wait for the parade. We have a mountain buggy nano that’s on its last legs but carry on friendly and he was fine in that - and is bigger than your son. Tbh maybe just ask around and if anyone has an old one you can borrow? The rentals can’t go back to the hotels so are not ideal.

stackhead · 03/07/2024 21:38

We've just got back from disney with 5 year old DD, (she was 5 in june) and she was absolutely fine with the walking. Our busiest day we did 20k steps and we didn't carry her at all. (Just as a counter to the "you deffo need a pushchair" argument).

We did however take the shuttle bus to and from the hotel (newport) because my feet would not have handled the extra walk!

So can't advise on which pushchair but don't hire one, they looked awful!

EDIT: just seen that DS is just 4. Yeah I'm not sure DD would've managed at 4. But still don't hire one, and don't get a wagon. Those bastards were really fucking annoying when it was busy and I feared for my ankles at some points.

frenchnoodle · 03/07/2024 22:02

Our McLaren techno XLR has been wonderful, such a good investment, it did the eldest who is now 8 then I reused it for the next one which we regularly used until he was 4 and now at 6 he'd probably still fit in it if he needed to.

No - don’t hire the ones there. They’re like wheelchairs and children can’t sleep in them. Get one that reclines almost flat - our old mamas and papas one did. Then you can get your 4 year old ready for bed and settle him down in the buggy laid almost flat - probably with feet hanging out- while the rest of you watch the fireworks. That’s what we did and we had envious looks from parents struggling with overtired little ones while ours was fast asleep.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 03/07/2024 23:10

You can take the hire ones to the Disney hotels, you just have to pay a deposit. We had to hire one for our 4 year old when we went. 8 year old older brother fell asleep waiting for the fireworks and we were able to wheel him back in it no problem. They are built like tanks.

kaleni · 04/07/2024 00:00

At Florida Disney we saw a lot of Baby Jogger City Mini/GT buggies, I think they are commonly hired out there by companies because the seat is so big and they are very sturdy. We got one secondhand years ago for under £30 (a very old model but lasted us a couple of years, and it's still usable for DD2 if we need it!), so I'd recommend searching for a secondhand one. The fabrics are all detachable for washing so really easy to clean, and it reclines almost flat and has a big hood.

Himawarigirl · 05/07/2024 17:05

We hired one, they had loads. It was quite heavy but fine for just going round the park and our son slept in it (3 at the time).

Dolly567 · 05/07/2024 17:11

McLaren took a double for my four and two year old a few week ago

Inyourwildestdreams · 06/07/2024 05:35

Thanks so much for all the suggestions 😊 We have an early flight when heading out and a late flight when heading back so the dream would be something cabin approved that will fit a 4yo so we have it in the airport 😅🤞🏼 doubt we’ll find that at a reasonable price but we can dream 😁

Would rather buy secondhand so keeping a look out on marketplace etc.

Look for a mountain buggy nano - cheaper than a yo-yo, fits in the overhead locker and fit my 107cm 20 kilo son.

There’s a fb page for Disneyland pass on a push chair where people literally leave pushchairs for other people to take. Planning on using that for my 4 year old next week
