Advice on liners for cloth nappies please! Poo TMI alert....

Hello,
Can any of you nappy gurus out there give me some advice on how best to line DS's nappies? The problem I would like to solve is that my DS's poo is the stickiest stuff in the world. At the moment I am using fleece liners which keep him nice and dry BUT dealing with them is a bit yukky as the poo will not come off with rinsing and needs scrubbing. I've tried some paper liners but his poo goes right through the ones I have. Can you recommend a tough BF sticky poo-proof paper liner for me to try?
Many thanks.

You can buy a big roll to rip off one at a time from bambino Mios. They were good and strong enough to hold even most challenging poo.

Washersaurus · 03/04/2008 21:26

My gawd woman, what on earth are you doing scrubbing fleece liners?

Just sluice it in the loo and flush if necessary and bung it in the bucket, the rest will come off in the machine. Believe me I have had to deal with some hideous slicky poo from DS1, who was on movicol to soften his stools (I don't miss those days). Mind you DS2 is giving him a run for his money on that score at the moment...TMI sorry

Washersaurus... note I said, "needs scrubbing" not that I scrub them . The most I do is poke at them with the (carefully marked) wooden spoon that lives next to the nappy bucket whilst pulling a sucked-a-lemon face and trying to convince self am earth mother.

moondog - will try the bambino mios. Thanks for the tip.

The new onelife ones are nice and soft.

In the 7 years I have been using and selling cloth I have never heard anyone say they use a wooden spoon to scrape off the poo

Washersaurus · 03/04/2008 22:09

Phew, you had me worried there; had visions of you using a toothbrush or similar

I never had much success with paper liners and sticky poo tbh, just had to hold my breath and flush the poo off the fleece ones.

(I don't really like the idea of paper next to DS' skin when I am putting him in lovely fluffy nappies anyway though, so I'll be quiet now).

Octothechildherder · 03/04/2008 22:10

Washersaurus - the onelife ones are really soft - not papery at all.

tellyaddict · 03/04/2008 22:10

I've been having the bf poo staining problem and just discovered that fleece liners are the answer! I kind of scrap off what I can with the baby wipes I've used (not reusable ones!) and then throw in the bucket. On wash day I put the pooey ones in for a rinse on their own and then chuck in the rest for the main wash. Just brought mine in from drying outside and the fleece liners are stain free hurrraaaaaaaayyyyyyy ! So it would seem that the sticky poo does come off the fleece liners ok without any real effort on my part. Paper liners didn't work for me at all, just encouraged spreading of poo TMI!!

Washersaurus · 03/04/2008 22:12

Octo - you WILL NOT convert me!

I think I tried Cotton Bottoms ones and some random ones that I got with a batch of 2nd hand nappies.

I still have those lovely furry liners if anyone wants them FFP (not recommended for this sort of poo I wouldn't have thought )

Washersaurus · 03/04/2008 22:13

I'm waaaaay past caring about poo stains on my nappies/liners these days

Octothechildherder · 03/04/2008 22:13

I use fuzzis without liners and just sluice them or at night I use onelife with a fleece liner. I can't flush paper liners as they block the drains.

LarryVeestAdamAntSpawnChorus · 03/04/2008 22:15

My favourites by along way are Popli flushables (by Popolini).

They come in a tissue style box rather than a roll.

They are very robust for poo, but let wee straight through (they don't hold any moisture to the skin). They can be washed LOTS of times too.

I get mine from plushpants. BTW I think Christine (the owner) is a MNer (I saw her post the other day, not sure if she's a regular).

broguemum · 03/04/2008 22:18

TBH not so keen on paper liners myself and at home am OK with the fleece ones so long as I am in the right frame of mind to deal with the nappy bucket. Ï'm thinking of paper mainly 'cos of the creche where DS goes every morning for a few hours. They are OK to use the reuseable nappies on him but they've never had a baby in reuseables before and were a bit skeptical so I want to make it as easy as poss for them.

Re wooden spoon - should have seen my face when caught my (lovely) cleaner in the act of putting the poo spoon back into the kitchen.....

ROFL at 'poo spoon'...what is wrong with using the toilet brush anyway? Not that I do, like I said, I just dunk and flush DS' liners.

Nappyzone · 03/04/2008 22:21

i never used any kind of liners as its just something else for me to forget and i dont use a woode spoon either . The softest paper liners i have felt are by tots bots

broguemum · 03/04/2008 22:21

DD and I painted the handle brown to ensure there would be no mix ups....

Octothechildherder · 03/04/2008 22:23

LMAO

Washersaurus · 03/04/2008 22:23

I actually restocked my nappy drawer with diddy diapers when DS1's poo was at its worst, as I couldn't get the poo out of the terry pile on the tots bots (when it smeared off the liner)

I am painting a pretty poo picture here aren't I

LilyMunster · 03/04/2008 22:25

i have taken to using the high pressure shower spray thing to blast the shit off and down the pluyg while the nappy lies in the bottom of the bath. then the mostly poo-free nappy goes in the bucket ... blah.

now, the comfort i gain from not having to touch the crap would be slightly depleted if someone were to tell me the bathwater goes down a different hole than the bog water, and that its somehow Not a Good Idea... so please dont do that anyone.

onepieceoflollipop · 03/04/2008 22:25

broguemum I laughed at that - painted the handle brown.

Re stains, I bet there are more posts about this during the winter. In the summer when we peg out the sunshine is literally like magic. Same with carrot stains etc on t-shirts. Better than bleach is sunshine. (don't worry I don't use bleach on nappies!!)

broguemum · 03/04/2008 22:26

Oh, I even considered using pasta server / tongs things to supplement the poo spoon as I don't like to stick my hand into the pooey bucket to get the nappies out. Instead use laundry bags and rubber gloves. Any tips for improving this?

Washersaurus · 03/04/2008 22:27

I just line my buckets with nappy nets and haul the whole lot straight into the machine - I touch nothing!

Octothechildherder · 03/04/2008 22:28

Mesh def way forward!

onepieceoflollipop · 03/04/2008 22:28

LilyMunster as I understand it all household water goes down exactly the same drain when it leaves the house and all of it gets treated the same by the water/sewage company. All of it: pooey toilet water, washing up water, rinsing water from the washing machine etc etc.

So I wouldn't worry about the plughole (unless it gets blocked with big lumps...)

onepieceoflollipop · 03/04/2008 22:30

broguemum why not just get a cheap kitchen utensil set and fix the rack to the wall next to your loo. Result: your cleaner won't get confused and it would be a real talking point at dinner parties.

If your children drop toys down the loo you would be onto a winner - just grab a handy fish slice.

I should be going to bed but this is a fab thread.
