Hello!

Post here if you have 2 or more kids under 3yrs.

We were formerly the 2 under 2 thread, but some inconsiderate DCs went and had birthdays.

Commence rambling / ranting / updates etc

Hello, Im still alive and well, just too busy other than to read and fly!

katyt1 · 14/04/2008 06:16

morning all - have given up on sleep for 'tonight'
3.50 cat in room crunching on mouse
4.00 ds1 wakes up crying, prob cos cold, dh tucks him in
4.15 cat with another/same mouse
4.30 ds2 wakes, feeds and won't settle, too cold as our heating system is bu**ered atm, so tried in our bed for 5mins but gave up on trying to get a second more sleep.

am now watching csi downstairs whilst ds2 snuffles and wathes the light...

hi cazwa

jewelsandgems - hope u had a good cry & feel better & dh isn't an arse today. i felt similar yest, feel pmt-ish atm
as for money, i get you.

re weather, grrr, ds1 insisted on going into the garden and staying there even as it rained, rained heavily & even hailed...
managed to talk him in by asking him to make me a cup of tea
hoping to take visitors out today so hope the rain isn't too heavy.

pussycat - bad news with ds, not sure what to suggest tho sounds like current situation can't continue
teeth marks?

loopy - we have 4 gates, working our way up to 6 one day i'm sure...2 on stairs, 1 on kitchen 1 on ds1's door. can fence them in or out of various places depending on mood

well in-laws told PIL yesterday about their plans to emigrate, then came to us.
MIL cried at the time but seemed okish at the time, but when her sister spoke to her later she said she couldn't talk, couldn't stop crying and felt 'like someone had died'
she hasn't phoned dh yet to talk about it, maybe waiting till they go home. don't think i'll be answering the phone for a bit....

anyway, ds1 shd be waking soon o best go get the kettle on for tea and his milk ready...

good morning

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 14/04/2008 06:54

yes, lovely teeth marks. Amazed he didn't break the skin.

Looks like it may be dry here today, so will get to the park today i hope.

Got a 'get DS2 out of our bed' plan which i've started...

Night 1: Bottle, not boob when 1st woke, but slept in our bed
Night 2: The same
Tonight: All bottle for wakings, no boob, put back in his cot when wakes 1st time
Tomorrow: All bottle, back in his own bed every time.

We shall see

morning all
glad sorry to see some of you have had a rough night like me Between both dds they are a pain and wasnt helped by the fact that one of them had set my alarm clock for 3.50am not long after I had gotten back into bed from settling dd2 So not a lot of sleep going on here as per usual..must be mad to consider another baby but then ds only started sleeping through in sept so by my calculation I have 18mths till dd1 sleeps through and 2.6yrs for dd2..then if I have another...oh I give up

hazeyjane · 14/04/2008 13:00

Hello everyone
Am on computer in the library whilst girls snooze in buggy.Just thought Id try and catch up, this thread moves so fast, doesn't it!
I don't believe it, dd2 has woken up, so i'll have to get going home for lunch, ah well, got to sit down for 5 minutes at least!

BTW, Chaotica, that glamorous babe that you see pushing a buggy down the road oozing Mummy Mojo, that's me that is!

Glad to hear things are going well hazey and loopy

I've apparently turned into one of those mothers you see who looks exhausted and pissed off, and growls 'will you please MOVE' through gritted teeth at their toddler Just walked to post office and back to do few errands and wear out DS1, who started the morning by battering DS2 and me. Seems to have done the trick. And DS2 is asleep in his pushchair now- touch wood!

So tired. And bored tbh.

I didn't make enough watered down bottles for DS2 last night either- ran out by midnight. Will make sure i have more tonight, so i don't have to resort to boobing the little monkey.

Jewelsandgems · 15/04/2008 12:12

Yeah Loopy know what that's like - DH seems to very much like his shed and garage at the weekends and when he suggests a trip to tescos I am actually excited.

Am in the process of moving Izzy from her 3 hour routine to the 4 hour routine. Currently, she is awale 1h30 then sleeps 1h30 and this is how it goes all day from 6am til 7pm. But, by time she is 4 months it should go 2 hrs awake, 2 hrs asleep, meaning I have cut out 1 feed and the length between feeds in then 4 hours. And this is good when it happens, because when we're on a day out, we're not constantly clock watching and thinking 'oooh can't do that/go there because Izzy will want a feed before we get there' etc etc. It is really hard keeping her awake for longer, and also trying to keep Freya entertained. Feel knackered!

Good look with your in bed and bottles-not-boob plan Grrrl

PMSL too, Jewels (like the new name, btw) We seem to make it to B&Q instead... And don't get me started on finances and weekend childcare... And I'm not even a SAHM (just a humble working mum on maternity leave which ends next week). Not that DP doesn't do anything -- he does (but mainly with DD), and I'm totally with you Loopy about having to have plans if you're going to be on your own looking after the DCs (can imagine that is even more important when you have 3). I get officially dejected and down if I'm stuck in the house all weekend with both of them, no matter how useful DP is being in other ways.

Nice new name aswell, Grrrrrrrrl . Must think of a new one for myself sometime soon, but my braincells don't work right at the mo' (Lack of sleep, I think.)

Hope you're all having some luck getting your littlest ones settled (by whatever means necessary). DS did a long and happy second day at the CM's with DD yesterday and is now either sick or so knackered he's nearly napped all day (unfortunately, I think he's probably sick - again).

Damn Hazeyjane should have known that mummy-mojo-wielding glamour puss was you I'll be sure to wave next time

Cazwa · 15/04/2008 20:05

Right Ive the time to write a proper reply.

Im sitting here with minging hair and a glued up gash to the back of my head from yesterdays antics. The car boot slammed down on my head and put a gash in it that I had to go to casualty to get glued together, but I cant wash my hair for a week
Dont know how Im going to cope, Ive got long thick brown hair with dried blood in it. I shall be going on lots of long walks with the pram and avoiding all people!

Kids are great at the moment, really happy and settled. DS slept through last night for the first time in ages, dont know why, didnt do anything different. Im down to morning and night BFs now and through the night, going really well, feel like Im getting the best of both worlds. DS had his first taste of solids tonight, munched on some broccoli in my hand and had a nibble on some banana. DD thinks its hilarious watching him eat! THink she thought he would be on milk forever. Hates him in her highchair though, must go and buy another Ikea one for him.

Chaotica - how are you feelign about going back to work? I feel like Ive been off forever, but do have to go back end of July.

Planning a short trip to Nice in September, just me and DH, I am beside myself with excitement at the thought of 3 days of enjoyment, but know I'll miss them.

Mummy mojo vibes to everyone, fingers crossed we all have great nights.

GrrrlInterrupted · 16/04/2008 06:41

oh Cazwa You can get a powder you sprinkle in your hair that cleans it without water. Never used it myself mind you.

Taking them both to visit my Grandparents on the bus today- taking single pushchair and DS1s backpack with his 'lead'. Journey takes about 30mins, so here's hoping they both behave. DH will pick me up after work though, which makes it easier. And chip shop tea tonight

Feeling more positive today, so here's hoping i handle challenging behaviour better today. Been feeling a bit depressed tbh. Thinking about money issues, not feeling i have much identity at the moment. But, i have found a CM, who we're going to see next week, who has space and sounds really lovely on the phone. Going to work Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from end of July, 9-4.30 so i'm always here for teatime and bed. Can't wait! And i'm going out for the day with my friend and no kids in a couple of weeks, and that's keeping me going too.

DS2 was fine with his first diluted bottle last night, and took 5ozs and went back to sleep. 1.5 hrs later he was awake again though, and not impressed with a bottle. Cried for about 15mins, then relented. I was tempted to just boob him for some peace, but then i thought, he's almost 6mths, and i want my boobs and bed back soon. I breastfed him after midnight though. Baby steps i suppose.

God i've waffled!

Anyway- breakfast, bath the kids, pack a bag, lunch and off to the bus.

Have a good day everyone.

Chaotica · 16/04/2008 11:14

Ow Cazwa -- poor you . Can't you even use just water? Or is that out too? All I can suggest is tying it back a lot/wearing a hat, and if things get really bad there's always the hijab... (although it would have to really be a bad hair day to adopt islam if you haven't already ).

Going back to work? I'm quite looking forward to it, although I'm only going one or two days a week to start with. But I know that however much I complain now, things will become a lot more manic... And I need to think a lot at work don't know how I'll manage that My brain seems to have gone on holiday to hawaii (or be taken up by the dcs...)

Jewelsandgems · 16/04/2008 12:11

Hello everyone, just ordered some bright bots training pants for DD1 (AKA 'The Night Time Nappy Remover') and for a week I am just going to have to go for it. But, shall I still nappy her up at night? Or just use those disposable bed mats?

Just about to get DD2 up but she scratched her face awfullly this morning. And when I touched it, she screamed! Can';t find the bloody savlon either - don't think I should use the distilled witch hazel or TCP - Ouch!

Sorry to hear about your hair sitation Cazwa, yes there are dry shampoos around (bumble and bumble so one called Hair Powder or something) but I don';t think anything other than a good hair wash will really do. But, as Chaotica suggested, there's always the Hijab....

Because of the lovely weather I am on a massive washing-fest. And now I am at the point of just washing anything, just because it will dry outside and have that outsidr freshness. Maybe I'll do the sofa cushion covers - they are a bit sick-stained....

xx

Chaotica · 16/04/2008 15:34

OK -- which one of you swooped past and nicked the mummy mojo from me today??

Was it you, HazeyJ?; Grrrl? Jewels? Loopy? Cazwa?? (Although, lets face it, you deserve some today Cazwa) Katyt1?? Someone else?? It must have been someone on this thread...

Things were going so well as well: sunny day; walk; ducks (and ducklings); mud-pies; swings (for both DCs); cake... And then just as we were on the way back to the car with DD walking along a wall, a crowd of kids rushed past on their way to the swings... ...The kids are innocent btw, but they just provided enough of a distraction for DD to miss her footing and topple off the wall. And just as I went to grab her, the buggy tipped up too and catapulted DS onto the path ... Cue much screaming in a heap (some of it mine) and thanks (if you happen to be reading) to the very nice woman (and the girl) who came to help me.

I feel like such a crap mum and I don't know whether to go to A&E, start a thread along the lines of "I dropped both kids at once..." or just call social services to hand them over. (Only kidding about the last one...) In the meantime, they're both napping but I keep checking DS however peaceful he looks and he does seem OK don't know whether he just kind-of slid out of the buggy [not too bad really] or catapulted out head over heels over the handle . (Didn't fasten him back in after the swing because he threatened to scream if I did -- next time he's in the harness whether he likes it or not.)

...Going to go and comfort eat the rest of the cake now and wait to get flamed...

BTW this will be funny in retrospect if they're both alright.

katyt1 · 16/04/2008 19:18

ok it was me...well not really as ds1 in nursery today and ds2 has been pretty neglected really as i bought myself a new toy....a pressure washer
but i am so proud of myself, i must have somebody's mojo for something (garden mojo/diy mojo ?) - i have jetwashed the whole patio and steps and it looks fab
i can hardly move now tho and off to have a long soak in a mo.

chaotica - what a fright you all got, glad somebody helped you out tho. hope both dcs are ok and you too. cake and wine should help

cazwa - how awful for you too, are we having an accident prone time on here or what! the hair sounds yucky and i hope you have got hold of the powder stuff, sounds intriguing, does it work? could be good for camping trips, or last minute hair washes when time has run out???

grrl - how went the bus trip?? i keep meaning to take the boys on the bus, figure ds2 in a sling will be ok and ds1 would get such pleasure out of it, even if we don't really 'go' anywhere...

nemo - had any more sleep?

hazey - i shall smile politely (while inwardly burn up with jealousy) when i next see you strolling out and about then

gems - i did some washing but got carried away by jet washing so didn't hang anything out, will have to tumble dry some emergency vests for tomorrow now, oops.

re dh and weekends (was it loopym?) - i so sympathise being left at a loose ed on weekend days. if i know in advance i'm ok cos i can usually find another mum who's other half is busy but last minute, oh no, dh gets in the neck then!

right eating pizza before a long bath with wine, yum, sleepfilled nights to all

GrrrlInterrupted · 16/04/2008 20:37

oh Chaotica- that sounds scary (but easily done) Hope you're all ok.

Had a WONDERFUL day here- mainly because DS1 has stopped being wary of my grandparents, so he was scoffing their pasties, tearing round the garden, kissing them etc. It wasn't just his happiness that made if good though- my grampa is very special to me, and seeing my kids having a blast with him brought back memories and made me feel really smooshy.

Bus journey wasn't bad- they both fell asleep half way- although DS1 is a tad uncomfy on my lap sleeping.

Anyway- good sleeps and good tomorrows to all

Thanks for the good wishes, ladies. Just thought I ought to post to say that aside from having very long naps and a couple of tiny scrapes, both DCs seem fine after their ordeal (I gave DD the job of telling DP... ). DS even seems more lively and alert having had a bang on the head quite chatty, babbling and trying to sit up I'll still keep watch on him through the night though.

Wine sounds like a good idea.

Glad everyone else's day was good. I'll try to avoid disaster tomorrow.

Chaotica · 17/04/2008 16:04

So far so good today: been to playgroup and the doctor's with no major incidents...

katyt1 · 17/04/2008 18:01

good here so far too - farm this morning (freezing tho!), garden this afternoon, good tea, play and now tv.
soon bathtime on my own, haven't done it in a while solo, so will see if i still feel positive in an hours time....

Hello all,
Reasonably good day to report here. Took DC on a bus and metro (with DH) whilst car getting fixed and went to soft play cafe where she had a babycino, which sounds cuter than it is, frothy milk wtih chocolate on top which she then poured all over her legs, ho hum.
Disasterous dinner, put baked potatoes in oven and sent DH in to sort them out who then reported that I had put hte oven on defrost last minute rush round to throw burgers together. Just as I sit down to tuck into mine DS does the worlds biggest poo, so bad that I cut his vest off and binned it. It covered his back, front and every limb!

On day 5 of not washing hair. I am minging. Thank god none of you can see me in RL.

katyt1 · 17/04/2008 20:17

loopy - dh is often away mon-thurs so i have to get on with bathing them both. it went fine, has done every time ... so far, waiting for ds1 to realise what chaos he COULD cause and for ds2 to get bigger and demand different things, bridges to cross later...
got both boys in bed asleep by 7.20 but i can hear ds2 on the monitor making noises, so am going to try plan A - turn monitor down
he hasn't woken before 1am in 6 weeks so he CANNOT be waking up!
he had 2 feeds last night after either 1 or none for ages growth spurt as dh likes to say...

cazwa - nice poo ds when can you wash hair? we should have a countdown.

chaotica - there is the saying 'knock sense into' someone ?

right, dh collecting curry on way home so best try and look useful by getting plates and glasses of wine out

GrrrlInterrupted · 18/04/2008 05:21

Urgh, awful night. I couldn't sleep for most of it, and DS1 was coughing all night. He sounded so pityful i went in to give him a drink at 4am, but he wanted to get up. Tried putting him in his cot but he started screaming, and since he's obviously not well i couldn't leave him to it.

So been up since 4am trying to explain that 1. Daddy is sleeping

  1. CBeebies isn't on yet

2 things are certain; i'm having a bath as soon as DH gets home from work today, and he's making food tonight.
