Dressing baby girl

I have a 7 week old baby and all I seem to dress her with are either short sleeve vests or long sleeve vests and then a baby grow on top (either the ones with poppers or zip ups).
Then a sleeping bag at night.
Would you recommend any other clothes? Like leggings and socks and tops and dresses? She was born beginning of March and she is now 4.5 kilos, so she is slowly outgrowing the up to 1 month stuff and she is comfortable in the 0-3 stuff.
I am thinking of buying some more 3-6 stuff that's why i was wondering what sort of things to buy.

This is where you get to choose for yourself OP. As long as she's warm, clean and the clothes fit comfortable your little one won't give two hoots. What you're doing sounds fine to me and easy to deal with from a laundry perspective. If you fancy something a bit jazzier sometimes, then enjoy finding something you think will suit her. Congratulations on your growing little one.

Ah how lovely to be in that stage! I kept mine in babygros with appropriate layers till about 6 or 9 months, much the comfiest for them. Enjoy your little one ❤

UnravellingTheWorld · 22/04/2024 07:18

At that age they sleep so much, proper outfits really aren't worth it. If you want to, go for it, but it's not uncommon for mums to use only babygros for 6 months. I definitely did!

I did the same, I had some leggings and tops or vest and soft dungaree type outfits in 3-6m but largely it was sleepsuits.
In 6-9 it was summer so I had mainly short rompers which I loved and she has some for this summer in 12-18. Some tops and leggings, some dresses and tights. But comfort is the main priority, even now most of her outfits are I believe designed as pjs but I'd prefer her to be comfortable and they are just tops and bottoms

Once she started weaning at 6m it was easier to have separate tops and bottoms so I could take her top off so things didn't get so dirty, and when sitting and trying to crawl, also to feel her feet it's nice for them to be out I thought

bakewellbride · 22/04/2024 07:26

I did just sleepsuits / vests until well over 6 months with both of mine but it's individual choice.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 22/04/2024 07:37

It’s totally up to you - whatever you like and find easy for nappy changing. I mostly dressed mine in sleepsuits until about 6-8 months as they seem so comfy and they still have lots of naps. I’d happily wear clothes without a waistband all day if I could! also avoids the need for socks which are a pain as they always come off or get pulled off.

For summer short sleeve short rompers are super cute although clothes designed for layering can be more practical in the UK (eg vest only for hottest part of the day with added leggings and cardigan if needed).

I really don't understand this "fashion" of socks and tights and dresses for tiny babies.
They sleep so much that they need to be comfortable. Putting tiny socks on a tiny feed is also time-consuming and annoying. They look cute in anything. I just use sleepsuits/vests as long as I can.
I bought some dresses/tights from 4- 5 months for occasions, but I never used them every day.

This - give her the opportunity to kick with bare feet, but otherwise "outfits" are totally unnecessary and often impractical and uncomfortable.

Come the summer she won't want many layers on anyway.

BaconCozzers · 22/04/2024 09:43

I wasn't a fan of tights or leggings that tiny as surely they are more comfortable without waistbands. I loved the dungarees/romper type outfits, and because it was a hot summer, had a few soft dresses too. Happy shopping op!

I agree about waistbands but what do they wear underneath the dresses? Just the nappy?

On the odd occasion DD wore summer dresses we used soft bloomers from H&M.

readingmakesmehappy · 22/04/2024 10:52

Both of mine lived in babygros for as long as possible! Avoid socks and tights for as long as you can as they are a pig to get on and off. You might want some cooler things for the summer so she can get her arms and legs out, but don't feel any need for 'outfits'

InTheRainOnATrain · 22/04/2024 10:54

I found leggings or even tights easiest for nappy changes as it’s just pull up and down, no wrestling legs in and most importantly no poppers because those things are the devils work!! So vest, footed leggings or tights with a jumper or jumper dress type thing over- comfy and nothing fussy. If it’s very warm then I’d do cropped leggings or even little pull on shorts over a short sleeved vest and bare feet. Dresses and bloomers also work. Often they come included with the dresses at that age. Much better than faffing with rompers that have poppers under the bum. Cardigan on hand to slip on/off as needed. Typically they need one layer more than you, unless it’s hot hot and then that doesn’t apply obviously.

Gardenlady543 · 22/04/2024 10:56

My baby is 4 months, she's almost exclusively in a sleeveless body suit with a long sleeve sleep suit on top (the zip up ones are ⬆️). If we have somewhere really nice to go then we will dress her up, but we have to change her nappy about 20 times a day, and this is the easiest to manage.

MsBubbles85 · 22/04/2024 12:05

When my DD was a baby and we were out, I normally dressed her with dresses, rompers, footed leggings... if it was cold I put her baby tights and during summer only a vest under the dress and socks or no socks depending how hot it was.

Usually a vest, because she could poo for England and I found it helped support the nappy and was the last line of defence when it came to containment...😩 If not a vest (or sometimes as well as) we had some cotton knickers/nappy cover type things, which while not strictly necessary were cute anyway.

Nutmeg1204 · 25/04/2024 11:23

I don’t have recommendations of what clothes to buy but I wanted to suggest you look at Vinted if you hadn’t already. We never used to buy second hand and there is so much amazing stuff on there mega cheap especially for babies they wear them for such little time.

mindutopia · 25/04/2024 11:31

Mine were pretty much in vests and babygros until about 6 months, with maybe some shirts/leggings combos in the summer. Both mine were February babies. It's comfortable and cheap. I just thought about what I would want to wear if I was basically just lying around all day - it would be something comfortable rather than dresses and jeans. They might have worn something closer to an actual outfit if we had something to go to, like a wedding or a party or something.

Starsandflowers · 25/04/2024 11:51

I dressed my girls in mostly dresses during the summer when going out. If very hot then nothing underneath except the baby knickers the dresses sometimes come with. But if a bit cooler then a short sleeved or strappy body underneath. For cold evenings I'd have tights and a cardigan to put on them.
In the house I just used baby gros.

BirthdayRainbow · 25/04/2024 11:54

Think about her comfort. If a dress has buttons on the back is that really going to be nice for her to lie on. I used babygrows for at least four months with my son. The I bought a couple have soft shorts and t shirts but really he was in sleep suits for months.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 25/04/2024 11:54

This is how I dressed by son till pretty much 6 months and from then on started introducing more outfits (trousers/tops/dungarees etc)

Mamabear487 · 25/04/2024 12:42

Both mine lived in babygrows until they were 1. Summer was vests / dress or rompers for my girl and shorts top set or rompers for boy

TiredMummma · 25/04/2024 15:22

Up to you - might be too warm for a sleeping bag and a vest at night now though...

I loved dressing my baby up in clothes during the day and then pyjamas at night - helped to solidify night and day too as part of our routine. I personally found it weird to see older babies in pyjamas and it's definitely affect their development (not being encouraged to independently sit or supported walking due to the slippiness of sleepsuits)

I would say check out Vinted! Lots of amazing things on there. Next is a brilliant brand.

When they start moving leggings or dungarees are perfect as allows their feet to be free!

GreatGateauxsby · 25/04/2024 15:26

My only advice is don’t bother with dresses until she can walk.

i bought some very expensive Boden dresses that were just crumpled messes.

i personally favour onesies with cardigans on top

BirthdayRainbow · 25/04/2024 16:52

Dresses are a nuisance for crawling babies.
