Practical outfit ideas for 8 month baby please!

Since my DD was born, I have dressed her in those zip suits. I quickly realised I preferred something practical over an ‘outfit’ which is fiddly, as i wanted something for easy change (if spit up milk) and simply move zip up to change nappy. And my DD has been one to fill nappies frequently since day 1.

I’m thinking it might be time (and this is just based on me observing other parents and feeling lazy!) to move to more of an ‘outfit’ now - are there any suggestions for practical ideas for quick changes?

Tights (saves them constantly pulling off socks) + a vest and cardi if needed.

I agree outfits are silly, but when they’re crawling I find suits start to get a bit tangeled

InTheRainOnATrain · 25/03/2024 09:30

Vest, leggings, top

SpringOfContentment · 25/03/2024 09:40

Vest, leggings or joggers, teeshirt.

I find outfits easier for nappy changes and have been using leggings, tshirt and jumper or zippy top without a hood since about 8 weeks. Zippy suits are faffy for nappy changes so got rid of those and use the popper suits for nighttime. If your baby sicks up etc you just have to change the top.. I love JoJo maman bebe and next for simple outfits tops and trousers and buy in similar colours so the all semi match eventually. Dungarees and footless rompers with a million poppers are the devils work!

Vest, leggings, top

100% this. I dressed mine this way as early as possible. Sleep suits are cute but soft leggings are easier for nappy changes.

Mine was always in soft little leggings, top, vest underneath depending on time of the year. You can get leggings with little feet but I just used long socks. The long ones stayed on really well.

Dress them in whichever way is comfy for them and easiest and least stressful for you. That's all that matters.

DS pretty much lives in leggings, vest, top. If it’s colder a long sleeved vest and/or jumper.

Sometimes joggers but mainly leggings. I also have a couple of soft jersey material dungarees which he wears.

DappledThings · 25/03/2024 10:40

Mine lived in dungarees. Short or long sleeved popper vest and the kind of dungarees that just pull up and over the shoulders, no buttons.

Mine didn't wear sleepsuits after about 2 weeks. I Found them all fiddly and annoying.

Rubyrubyrubyruby123 · 25/03/2024 10:41

Bodysuits and leggings. Holds the nappy in place better.

Chippytea2 · 25/03/2024 10:42

Leggings, vest, sweater is my go to.
Long sleeve vest and joggers is especially easy!

I love dungarees, absolutely adorable. Can be a bit of a pain though depending on the type. I prefer the ones with poppers by the legs for easy nappy changes.

DinnaeFashYersel · 25/03/2024 10:43

Dungarees are the answer

Commonsense22 · 25/03/2024 10:58

This is so interesting to me. I find dungarees the utmost fiddliest type of outfit, even if they're cute. I've always preferred outfits for my daughter, not only because they look good but because I find them easier to manage! Nothing beats tights and a dress in my book. So simple for getting changed.

When she was a tiny newborn I'd have leggings and a top over a vest, but from about 2/3 months, dresses + tights were it! There are some beautiful easy ones with no buttons or zips or anything, you just just pull over.
Sleepsuits or any "all in one" solution, I find super fiddly.

caringcarer · 25/03/2024 11:03

I know I'm old fashioned and my view will be unpopular but I loved dressing my DD in a dress and matching cardigan, with tights in the winter too. When she crawled on the floor I simply put a clothes peg on the back of her dress. I used to love dressing her up.

GoodnightAdeline · 25/03/2024 11:06

Long sleeved vest with fabric dungarees. Comfy, they hold themselves up, practical. Like these (you can probably buy cheaper on Vinted)

Vest , leggings or joggers , top that is weather appropriate. I went with this combo most days from birth as we were out every day and I preferred them ‘dressed’.

darkchocolatecoffee · 25/03/2024 11:14

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and links! Time for some online shopping later today!

How funny we all find different style outfits easier. I get the wondersuit brand for the zipper suits and find it easy for nappy changes but glad there’s good outfit options that look good and are practical!

dungarees look so cute! But I always assumed fiddly, but the Zara one looks practical, thanks for the link @GoodnightAdeline

Deffo get poppers on dungarees!! Some don’t!

Superscientist · 25/03/2024 13:54

I hate sleepsuits with a passion and found it impossible to keep all 4 limbs in them long enough to get it fashioned
It also helped me distinguish day and night.
We did a mix of dresses and leggings or t shirts and leggings or vests and dungarees.
I used to keep myself amused with inappropriate combinations of animals on clothes. So fox socks and bunny rabbit t shirts or dinosaurs and lions.

Weallnamechangesometimes · 25/03/2024 14:22

Vest and leggings/dungarees with cardigan/jumper.

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 27/03/2024 22:59

My DD is nearly 3, her staple outfit almost from birth has been a t shirt/bodysuit (or t shirt over bodysuit) and leggings or a dress and leggings. Long sleeve t short/dress in winter, short sleeve in summer, sometimes with shorts (rather than leggings) when it’s warm. Leggings are so much easier than tights 🙈

She did wear dungarees that belonged to her older brother too until potty training. I love dungarees on kids, but sadly, they become a bad idea when potty training begins!

Potatomashed · 27/03/2024 23:04

All of you saying sleep suits were too fiddly need to try Bonds Wondersuits! They have a double zip and are so so easy. I’m in your camp OP, 6m old and has worn about 3 outfits because wondersuits are the best.

ImNotARegularMumImACoolMum · 27/03/2024 23:15

I dress my 9 month old boy purely in Coord jumpers and trousers to save me the stress of having to match up outfits😂

I would say a vest underneath a jumper and leggings, H&M do some good sets, and you can also find quite a lot of good quality sets on Vinted😊

If you opt for H&M, the ‘newborn’ section strangely goes up to 4 years, and all of the clothes in this catergory appear to be fairly easy to take on and off 😌

BlueScrunchies · 28/03/2024 00:53

Like other have said:

#1: vest, joggers, jumper + long socks (good for nursery!)
#2: vest, tights, dress

my DD is pretty much only ever seen wearing one of these combos!

NappiesAndBunFluff · 28/03/2024 07:06

Echoing what others have said about vest tops with leggings or joggers being easy. Also some dungarees have pops on the inside leg -those are easy for changes.
Also just throwing it out there that our boy can't stand jumpers or sweatshirts as he hates anything going over his face (the vests are bad enough!)
Just cardigans and hoodies for him going forward.

PansyOatZebra · 28/03/2024 07:48

Bodysuit on then a pair of dungarees - they’re my go to easy outfit for my 11 week old.

Also second tights!! We are constantly losing socks

Omg! Do they not? Fortunately not accidentally bought any like this! I’d be fuming if I did as popper dungarees are one of my easy outfits
