Lights out between 8 and 8.30

Up at 7 am

LittleMissTickles · 25/03/2008 21:45

My 4.7 year old DD1 goes to bed 7-7:30, and wakes between 6:45 and 7:15.

Surfermum · 25/03/2008 21:45

DD goes at 7.00 pm. Waking times varies, normally around 7.30 am.

She's been to bed earlier than that when she's really tired, which she was when she first started school.

in bed, lights out, between half 6 and 7

up about half 6

CarGirl · 25/03/2008 21:46

Sadly for my 4.5 year old yes that is enough sleep. Meanwhile her younger and older siblings need longer and go to bed 6.30-7 and wake up after 7

It was a bit longer when she first started school but it's worn off now so 8pm - 7am is good night for her/us

FAQ · 25/03/2008 21:46

8pm - he usually whispers/messes around with his older brother until about 8.30 though - usually up sometime between 7.30 and 8.30 (though has been known to "sleep" - I use the term loosely..... until 10!!)

JingleyJen · 25/03/2008 21:46

our 4 year old has bath at 6.30 in bed 7 lights out by 7.15pm
Up at 7.30am not sure how much difference 6 months will make.

TLSM · 25/03/2008 21:48

My DS is 4 and goes to bed at 7pm and wakes up at about 7am so has 12 hours and sometimes when i have had enough and he has driven me completely around the bend he goes at 6.30pm usual takes him 1/2 an hour to full to sleep eother way

Twiglett · 25/03/2008 21:48

upstairs at 7.20 .. asleep by 7.45 .. wakes up around 8ish

she's not quite 4 yet

DoubleBluff · 25/03/2008 21:48

DS2 is 5. Bed at 8pm up at 6.30pm.
He is tired though at the end of the week.
can't get him to go to sleep any earlier or get up later though.

Psychomum5 · 25/03/2008 21:48

all mine are 'night-owls', and so are more wakeful at night!!!

bedtime is 8pm, up at 7.30am. (for my 5yr old, later for the older ones by half-hour each)

if they go to bed earlier, and actually fall asleep (which is a rarity), then they would be getting up before 6am, which for me would be nightmare scenerio as I too am a night-owl and not good in the morning!!!

Psychomum5 · 25/03/2008 21:49

should add......bedtime might be 8pm, asleep time is nearer 9pm after they have played for a while!

IdrisTheDragon · 25/03/2008 21:50

DS is 4.5 and is generally asleep between 7:30 and 8:00pm. Wakes up about 7am.

Ledodgy · 25/03/2008 21:50

Well can you not tell if it is enough sleep?

Mine is almost 4 and she is in bed with lights out by 7.30 and up about 7. But if feasible she will sometimes have a 2 hour nap also. This suggests to me that 7.30-7 isn't really enough sleep for her.

Flamesparrow · 25/03/2008 21:52

Between 7 & 7.30pm, wakes about 7am (normally woken to take DH to work), sleeps until about 7.30am if let to by us/Flameboy.

Can go up any time from about 6.30pm onwards depending on my mood though!!!

lizziemun · 25/03/2008 21:53

DD1 4.2yrs allways wakes at 6 - 6.30am Normal bedtime is 7pm but if she is realy tired like last night she will go to bed at 6pm and still sleep through.

She puts on her CD player and listens to some audio books.

pooka · 25/03/2008 21:55

dd will be 5 in JUly. Generally asleep by 7.45pm. Awake at about 6.45am lately. Would be happier if she slept in for a little longer.

UNtil she was 4 she would have a 2 hour nap in the afternoon, go to sleep at 8pm and be up at about 7.30am. How things have changed!

She does sometimes go to sleep a little earlier, and at weekends will get up a bit later. Since she's started school she is exhausted by Friday.

ninja · 25/03/2008 21:59

I heard a programme on Radio 4 today that said that for a 5 year old anywhere between 9 and 14 hours is 'normal' - and what determines what's enough is not the not the number of hours but whether the child is refreshed to tackle the next day!!

DD goes to bed between 7 and half past but is rarely asleep before 9.30. I normally wake her for school at 7.45ish (she also stopped napping in the day at 18months so never a great sleeper!!)

Nighbynight · 25/03/2008 22:13

lights out 8-8.30, up at 7. Every blinking day of the year!

SaveScrabulous · 26/03/2008 19:21

Ninja - which programme was that on?

ninja · 26/03/2008 19:41

I'm not sure which programme - it was a programme about sleep and insomnia at about 9pm last night (I was driving home) quite interesting actually

fivecandles · 27/03/2008 07:37

I listeend to that ninja. It also said that a great many children diagnosed with ADHD may actually not be getting enough sleep and are 'tired and wired'. If my kids don't go to bed at 7 - 7.30 they are definitely 'tired and wired'. They're up at between 6 and 6.45. Usually nearer the 6 am time than I woul like but at least now they play together without disturbing us (in theory) until we get up at 6.45 or later at wkends and holidays.

ninja · 27/03/2008 12:41

That's true - I guess the message is that a child's behaviour can give a clue as to whether they're too tired and getting enough sleep.

As DD wasn't asleep at 10.30 last night (How??) and up at 8.30 I have my concerns!
