Baby (not mine) is almost 9 months. Weighs 15.1kg

Heinz Baby Porridge for breakfast
8 oz of milk after breakfast (with standard dose of 2.5ml ibuprofen in as she’s teething, even though not actively displaying symptoms)
Lunch of Wotsits and Jaffa Cakes
8oz of milk after lunch
Dinner 1/2 tin Heinz Sausages with spaghetti or mash and gravy or spaghetti hoops and toast
8oz bottle after dinner
8oz bottle before bed (with ibuprofen again)
All of this with bottles of pure apple juice through the day, and a bottle of juice put to bed with her as well as the milk.

Would just like to know opinions really. As I said, not my baby, but I am EXTREMELY concerned and want to know if I’m over-reacting about it.

Horrendous.

And how long has the ibuprofen been going in the bottle?

DaisyJones6 · 27/02/2024 18:44

@fortheloveofpogs
We think around two weeks. Apparently HV advised it 🤔🙄

fortheloveofpogs · 27/02/2024 18:58

There's no way a HV would advise that.

They don't advise you give medication in a bottle at all. If ibuprofen had been recommended it would be in the normal way via spoon or syringe, and paracetamol is the first line medication!

They certainly wouldn't be recommending unless baby was showing symptoms of pain.

I honestly don't know what you can do about it but that's awful.

Dreadful. Too much formula firstly, lots of sugar, very little nutrition in the food.

Chocochoo · 27/02/2024 19:07

This is mumsnet so you’ll probably get posters saying it’s none of your business and you don’t know enough about the circumstances to judge…

…but that is awful and completely indefensible. The poor baby.

VivaVivaa · 27/02/2024 19:08

Well clearly it’s a flipping awful diet for anyone, let alone a baby. 15kg is also way, wayyyy over the top of the centile charts for a 9 month old. Are you sure that’s correct?

Avopopcorn · 27/02/2024 19:08

Does the baby like food? Are they actually eating it or just playing? It's not what I'd feed. Also is 15kg right?! That's the same as my fairly large nearly three year old...

DaisyJones6 · 27/02/2024 19:11

@Chocochoo It is definitely the circumstances sadly.
@VivaVivaa and @Avopopcorn Yes it is correct.

Eating the food, drinking all the formula.

OP posts:
Chocochoo · 27/02/2024 19:15

You’re not overreacting btw. What’s your connection to the baby/the parents?

Avopopcorn · 27/02/2024 19:16

Crikey. Poor kid. Can they at least swap the Jaffa cakes for peanut butter toast or something like that? Or a banana?

VivaVivaa · 27/02/2024 19:16

Flipping heck just realised baby in question is a she not a he. 15kg is absolutely ludicrous. DS1 was a 98th centile weight/height baby and he wasn’t that weight until close to 2. Forgetting the poor food choices, for the weight reason alone I think a GP visit is in order if you are close enough to baby/family to suggest or facilitate this.

DaisyJones6 · 27/02/2024 19:25

I’m related to the baby, and I am so worried.

Apparently the HV hasn’t questioned the weight! I’m finding it hard to believe that they have seen a HV recently - is there any way the Father can find out (parents aren’t together you see, barely speaking) I’m the Father’s family btw.

He’s going to raise these concerns with the Mother, but I just wanted to see if I was totally over reacting about it first.

mollyfolk · 27/02/2024 19:32

I’d be really worried about the ibuprofen. It says on the bottle not to use it for too long without consulting a doctor. I think it’s bad for your stomach.

the diet is shocking bad too - no nutrition, too much salt and sugar.

VivaVivaa · 27/02/2024 19:35

How often does the father of the baby have her or have contact? Is he on the birth certificate?

UnravellingTheWorld · 27/02/2024 19:40

I'm afraid I don't think you are overreacting. 15kg is the weight of an average 3 year old, so to have an actual baby be that weight is very concerning - especially with a diet packed with sugar.

DaisyJones6 · 27/02/2024 19:40

@VivaVivaa They have only recently split up, quite badly.

He saw her at Christmas and then had her for a long weekend just gone, he wants to see her more but they live 350 miles away and he doesn’t drive. Yes he is on the cert.

OP posts:
Chocochoo · 27/02/2024 19:42

If he is on the birth certificate then he has parental responsibility and can take the baby to the GP, contact the HV etc himself and explain his concerns.

DaisyJones6 · 27/02/2024 19:44

@Chocochoo He doesn’t know who the HV is, or the GP surgery. They live hundreds of miles away sadly. No idea how he would find these things out!

@Chocochoo He doesn’t know who the HV is, or the GP surgery. They live hundreds of miles away sadly. No idea how he would find these things out!

So I would suggest next time he has her to stay he takes her to his own GP. I think/hope they’d be sympathetic to the situation and there would be some way of getting this done. With regards to HV, a Google will probably help. For example, if I Google health visitor North Yorkshire, there is a number for the health visiting team you can phone. They even have a Facebook page you can message them on. Obviously I don’t know where this baby lives but I’m fairly sure he’ll be able to find the right team.

titchy · 27/02/2024 19:51

How does he know about the diet if he lives so far away? And did she move or did he? Has he asked for GP details? Does he have any sort of internet enabled device he can use to google the nearest two surgeries to the baby that he can then phone?

calorcalorcalor · 27/02/2024 19:53

Yes really really concerning. I hope he can get some professional support from a GP soon!

Sonora25 · 27/02/2024 19:54

I don’t think the story with the HV is true. My DS last saw a health visitor when he was a few months old. He is 2.5 years now and weighs less than 15 kg and he is a big boy.

i would report this to SS, it’s neglect and giving ibuprofen for two weeks in a row is irresponsible and definitely not adviced by anyone.

Sonora25 · 27/02/2024 19:55

why all the UPF? No fresh fruit or veg? Had the DM got issues? I don’t understand how anyone can think this is appropriate

Blarn · 27/02/2024 20:02

I was expecting to read something very judgy of someone elses's parenting but no, that is bad.

Can he contact the health visitor about his concerns?

DaisyJones6 · 27/02/2024 20:43

@Sonora25 You’re not the first person to mention SS to me, I must admit!
