What's your nappy washing routine?

My mum used to wash terries at 90!

How often do you wash? At what temp? Do you use sanitiser in the wash?

everyother day at 60 with a scoop of Bio D and a little fairy washing powder.

castille · 19/03/2008 21:12

I wash when the bucket is full (every other day) with just powder and a Calgon tablet, at 60.

PuppyDogTails · 19/03/2008 21:13

Every evening, 40 degrees, half a tablet of whatever non-bio we're using. Left to dry overnight on clothes horse.

I wash when my 3 drypail buckets are full, at 60 deg with prewash and a spoonful of nappy soak (sometimes)

Washersaurus · 19/03/2008 21:16

oh and obviously a tiny amount of non-bio too

I promise I only clicked post once

lackaDAISYcal · 19/03/2008 21:17

when the bucket is full, (every other day), at 40deg, with a cold prewash and "super" rinse, with a scant capful of fairy Non bio liquid. Dry pockets overnight on clothes horse and inserts on the radiators.

Occasionally give them a few rinses to remove any build up, and even more occasionally put a drop or two of tea tree oil in the final rinse

MrsBadger · 19/03/2008 21:17

so did mine!

dry pail
wash when bucket is full (36-48h)
60C with one tablet of nonbio and a spoonful of Napisan
tumble till nearly dry then air

I only use the Napisan because I was getting staining on my nice white fleecey Bimbles and it's cheaper than Vanish.

LaidbackinEngland · 19/03/2008 21:18

I was mine daily at 30 degrees in ecover. Never soak or anyting fancy like that. No stains - 30 degrees seems to do the job

Indith · 19/03/2008 21:18

60C with ecoballs and a slug of vinegar, dry pain and wash when the bucket overflows and starts to take over the bathroom floor. I need a bigger bucket!

jennster · 19/03/2008 21:19

Every other day when the bucket is overflowing but still contained in the net(yuk I know) with half a full scoop of Ecover non bio, on a 60 wash with prewash program. I don't add powder to the prewash section so it acts as a rinse. My machine is in the cellar so if I forgot then they could end up not washed.

Washersaurus · 19/03/2008 21:20

But MrsB Napisan is not good for your nappies or the environment - I urge you to find a friendlier brand

lackaDAISYcal · 19/03/2008 21:22

Oh, MrsBadger, a couple of hours in the sun is all you need to remove stains. Much better for nappy and for us.

BigBadMouse · 19/03/2008 21:24

Dry pail
Wash every 3 days
Cold rinse
40C with small amount of non-bio powder
Occassionally use sanitiser but only because I got some free
Line dry then tumble for 10 mins when nearly dry (or I get cardboard (hemp) nappies).

Ceolas · 19/03/2008 21:24

I use the OneLife sanitiser stuff. More for germs than stains.

36-48hrs (think we must have the same bucket MrsB!)

60 degrees with 1 nonbio tab.

We do the tumbling/airing the other way round though

60, every couple of days, with non-bio. have been using softener but stopped recently. now got crunchy nappies. line dried indoors.

(psst, where d'you put the vinegar? I put it in my softener bit then watched as it all drained out before I'd even pressed go! nappies came out crunchy as ever )

Washersaurus · 19/03/2008 21:31

softener?

Umlellala · 19/03/2008 21:33

Is there a reason you can't chuck them in with your normal washing?

Indith · 19/03/2008 21:36

No reason at all Umle, just never get around to washing nappies til I have a full load.

lackaDAISYcal · 19/03/2008 21:36

too much washing powder umlellala. It builds up causing sore botties, bad smells and I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong)it shortens the life of the nappy

Ceolas · 19/03/2008 21:37

I sometimes add towels to make up a bigger load.

Don't wash with the clothes though because I wash them at 30/40.

lackaDAISYcal · 19/03/2008 21:38

PHD, I usually do a separate rinse cycle with just the vinegar.
