My mum used to wash terries at 90!

How often do you wash? At what temp? Do you use sanitiser in the wash?

Pretty good Turtle, ear infections and exam stress aside

Daisy I don't know any more than what they say about ionising the water or something but they do really work, had mine for over a year now and only occasionally use powder for dp's work shirts or stupidly muddy rugby kit.

I have 2 buckets which i put soak in(yes i know bad for the enviroment , these are full every 3rd day when i do a cold rinse to get wee and nappy soak out before a 60 wash with non bio and an extra rinse. Then if dry its out on the line or indoors on an airer or if pushed i use tumble dryer.

Do things come out smelling OK? We are programmed to think that chemically reproduced smells are good, it would worry me that people thought we weren't clean because we didn't smell of something....or is that just bonkers?

Indith - have you needed to refill yours? I don't think I can get the screws out of mine - when it needs refilling, which they don't. Had mine since the summer they really do work!

Bouncingturtle · 20/03/2008 12:20

Daisy - the washing comes out not really smelling of everything. IN fact when I washed one load in fairy non-bio, I thought that smelt really strong. I do put a couple of drops of lavender oil in the softener drawer. That makes the washing smell lovely.

Indith · 20/03/2008 12:21

They just don't smell of anything. If you want to frangrace things then just pop a couple of drops of an essential oil in the conditioner drawer. No need at all during the summer though as if you dry outside it all comes in nice and fresh smelling anyway.

x posts!

I've not needed to refill yet so don't know! Think I still have a fair bit of time left with them, about 750 washes with the original filling so at 5 washes a week.....should have at least another year!

lackaDAISYcal · 20/03/2008 12:25

I think I might get some....need to economise now that DC3 (that still sounds wrong!) is on the way.

TheApprentice · 20/03/2008 12:27

I dry pail and wash every other evening. Rinse first then wash at 60% with Fairy non-bio liquid tab. Hang out to dry in utility room - we have a de-humidifier which helps to dry more quickly.

By the way for those of you looking for bigger buckets I have just bought a HUGE one from www.twinkleontheweb.com

Help! I must be doing something wrong with my nappies because I've tried EVERYTHING and they still come out stained!!!! I'm bf my baby and I know that the poo stains badly but I've tried washing at 40/60 and sometimes 95 out of frustration to get the stains out. I even had to wash 3 times the other day to get stubborn stains out. I've dry pailed, soaked them in Napisan, nappy soak or OxyClean (for babies), washed them with a little non-bio/alot of non-bio, washed them with bio, added napisan, oxyclean you name it and still stains!! AAAAAHHHH What am I doing wrong when all you lovely ladies seem to be able to wash at 40 with only a little powder and they come out clean?

Ceolas · 29/03/2008 11:49

Hanging in the sun (!) is good for bleaching out stains.

Thanks Ceolas. I've tried that too (with some success) and some very minor marks did come out, but more serious stains have remained bright yellow!

Am I just being too fussy in not being willing to have stained nappies??

Thanks mammatulip, I have done a cold rinse the last couple of times but no joy. Haven't tried fleece liners yet though (was using paper ones which the poo just leaked through) but just received fleece liners in the post today so will wash and try them tomorrow! I use terries and two part nappies mainly. I also have a Bumgenius V3 and so far this is the only nappy that bf poo stains have come out of first time (so far anyway!) - if only I could afford about 20 BG I'd be alright!
