Overnight nappy reccomendations (for bedwetter)

GemGem240 · 10/11/2023 17:27

Title says it all really I am looking for nappy recommendations for son overnight who isn’t dry yet! We have tried restricting fluids before bed etc but still manages to leak out of his pull ups which has resulted in endless washing and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to dry it all now the weather is cold.

Would have helped if I put that in the post 🙄 he’s 4

We use Drynites (older child but they do them for all ages, Aldi might do pullups as well)

ERIC is a great forum for all things continence. Good luck! Any joy with GP to get referred to urology?

Should be NICE guidelines if they don't look cooperative. Continence issues can take time and investigations to sort out. I'd start as soon as.

We got told to go away and come back at age 5 but I think that rule is no longer true.

I will have a look at the Aldi pull ups as he is leaking out of Drynites at the moment. I will look on Eric as well thank you.

I think he is too young to be referred but might try and get the ball rolling

Thank you!

Ours is now 13 but getting better at night, and will even change his own bed now!

Have had years of washing though, so do feel your pain.

Wet washing not fun at this time of year!!

I wouldn’t mind so much if it was summer and easy to stick a load of washing on but the fact it’s multiple times a week we have such a back log!

Hi, I wouldn't worry too much at 4.

We always used Pampers taped nappies at bedtime. Pull ups aren't as secure.

Good luck, 4 is only really young. Are they dry during the day?

Ahh okay, I might give that a go although I don’t think he will be a fan at all 😅 I don’t think pull ups are great as they aren’t even full when they leak which makes me think it’s the fit rather than capacity.

Yeah he’s been daytime trained since his 3rd birthday

Do you use a Kylie sheet? It might help with the washing

If you find one please let me know I have the same issue with my 6yo and can't find any that don't leak.

We did get some washable bed mats which help reduce the washing

They're like this.

My daughter is 13 now and still wets. She has drynites mostly

GemGem240 · 10/11/2023 18:36

Will be picking a few up thanks!

@GemGem240

Pampers pull ups in 6,7,8
Tesco pull ups 6,7,8
Dry nights
Huggies pull ups
Ninjamas

Probably some others along the way. We stopped completely for 6 months and used a bedwetting alarm as he's older but he got used to it and slept through so that didn't work after a while either. Now back to pull ups and the 6+ from Tesco seem the best albeit a bit small!

Cheryl1978 · 10/11/2023 18:41

Would normal kids nappies not work or has he outgrown them? I know my daughter would fit them at an older age. Not now though lol

He would definitely still fit in them, we were on holiday a few months ago and didn’t take enough pull ups so had to buy nappies and he didn’t leak

We have used the Pampers pull ups, Ninjamas and Huggies night pants. I found Pampers pull ups the worst but I really liked their nappies when we used them with him prior to potty training and never had leaks

Nappies might be safer so there’s no leaks. My daughter is small so was able to fit in them a bit longer than most but obviously wouldn’t at 13 now

Did you find any brands better? Is it worth paying extra for Pampers do you think?

I was always pampers with my daughter but that’s not to say others are just as good. Don’t know about fit or absorption or anything for you but know pampers do bigger sizes now.

Been maybe 3 years since my daughter had a tape on nappy. Know that’s old but was genuinely the best way to manage it for us

SudenAlia · 10/11/2023 18:56

He won't be dry until he produces the hormone vasopressin which reduces urine production whilst we sleep, so the bladder doesn't get full and doesn't need emptying. Until he makes this hormone he will not be dry at night consistently.

You need to look at the ERIC website for reassurance that this is completely normal but also incontinence websites as they cater to this sort of thing. There are children and adults who need to wear nappies at night and those products are out there.

I would definitely go back to a nappy if pull ups are leaking.

There are lots of different things that can help but accepting this is completely normal is the first step. We went through lifting, alarms, medication but only for overnight stays in hotels/school residentials but still had the back up nappy/pull up. The GP wasn't concerned even when Ds was 8.

SudenAlia · 10/11/2023 18:58

Lots of waterproof undersheets like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/brolly-sheets/s?k=brolly+sheets but also we had a mattress protector from an incontinence website, similar thing to what they have on hotel beds etc.
