Do your children change out of their school uniform when they get home?

Yes, both kids change as soon as we're home

AegonT · 30/10/2023 18:26

Not unless she has to change for an activity like youth club (casual) or her sport club.

No, it just gets twice as many clothes dirty. Uniform until bedtime here.

GarlicBroccolini · 30/10/2023 18:28

Uniform straight off.

NiceViper · 30/10/2023 18:30

I never did when I was a child. I never expected my DC to do so either, but obviously I don't stop them if they want to.

Welcometotheocbitch · 30/10/2023 18:32

Would just make twice the washing surely?! No way, uniform until bath time

SisterMichaelsHabit · 30/10/2023 18:33

It depends. When he's bigger I'll expect him to get changed to keep his uniform clean for the next day but at 4 he comes home covered from head to toe in mash potato, beans, mud, paint, snot (whose? IDK) and, today, flour (I'm assuming that's what the random white powder was anyway). So there's no point getting changed until bath/bed time when I can dissolve some of it ready for him to plaster himself in it again tomorrow.

mondaytosunday · 30/10/2023 18:34

Depends. Often not though my son did a lot of sport so usually did. My daughter was known to collapse on her bed in full uniform! They didn't get home til after 5pm though.

shockwaze · 30/10/2023 18:34

Straight out after school/whatever clubs he has that day. He generally asks for his PJs. He's a child of comfort

PuttingDownRoots · 30/10/2023 18:35

Depends what they are doing.

Just doing homework, reading etc... no point.

Out with friends, clubs etc then yes.

Parakeetamol · 30/10/2023 18:37

When I was a child I had to but suspect my DM didn't wash my school clothes for weeks.

My DC get filthy every day so it's easier to let them wear it and wash it every day.

febbabies2023 · 30/10/2023 18:38

Interested in this!

As a child my parents always made me and my brother change out of our uniform. No idea what for. So interested to see opinions for when ours go to school.

I think naturally I would have done the same because of my mum but really I don't see why?

I mean I guess if they're wearing the same jumper akd trousers / skirt again it would make sense if they were still clean when they returned home? I don't know. How much uniform do kids have? How much wear do they get out of it.

WhatNoRaisins · 30/10/2023 18:41

Yes, you can often get another wear out of say a dress or sweatshirt and it's not the comfiest thing to wear when chilling out in the evening.

lolalolas · 30/10/2023 18:42

Seems like a split crowd!
I have a pre-schooler, wasn't sure whether to change him and keep the jumper clean (if he comes home clean) or if itll just make more washing!

DS10 never gets changed - even if we are going out he can't be bothered/see the point. He makes an exception for swimming and scouts!

Mazuslongtoenail · 30/10/2023 18:58

Yes always.

My mum insisted that the ‘rough’ children kept their uniforms on. And as much as I’ve never bought into any snobbery or prejudices, for some reason I can’t shake the feeling that it’s somehow wrong to keep it on. Even though that feeling makes me uncomfortable!

riotlady · 30/10/2023 19:06

No, no point making more washing for myself

Bethebest · 30/10/2023 19:15

Yes, usually into pj’s. For comfort though not to reuse the uniform.

Keroppi · 30/10/2023 19:27

Yes, just into pjs or onesies or whatever. Comfortable clothes. Lately it's into the oodies 😁 Can't imagine it's hugely comfortable sitting around in tights or shirts or polo buttons done up! May just be me projecting onto them as I've always hated clothes.

Reugny · 30/10/2023 19:36

Yes into comfortable clothes or her painting clothes.

Oddly my reception aged DD is quite good at keeping her uniform clean.

I didn't wear uniform until secondary school and always changed out of it in to more comfortable clothes.

judgedreadful · 30/10/2023 19:37

If not going out mine put pjs on.

SarahLKelp · 30/10/2023 19:39

Yes straight away. I don't think the uniform is comfortable for lounging and don't like it to get even more stained and mucky than it needs to.

Nursemumma92 · 30/10/2023 19:42

Yes if my 5 yr old DD comes home clean, no if she comes home with food, paint, snot etc all over her uniform!

bluesky45 · 30/10/2023 19:45

Mine so rarely come home clean that I leave it and they can spill their dinner down the outfit they already spilled their lunch down and drew/painted/splashed mud all over. They only get changed if it's pouring down on the way home, then they always put their PJ's on.
