Children who don't go to nursery

Hello
My daughter is 22 months and hasn't been to nursery, primarily because I just can't afford it. I'm not even sure if I'll send her when we get some funding as we went for a taster day and she screamed for the whole 30 minutes when I had to leave her. It was just awful for everyone and I couldn't bear it, but as I said it turns out I can no longer afford it anyway.
My concern is that she will fall behind in speech and socialising. She doesn't like to socialise with anyone that she doesn't know and when I heard the children who went to nursery speak, they speak a lot more and much more clearly.
Is there anything I can do for this? Or is it even worth worrying about?
There's mum and baby classes but anything more?
She's very attached to me and not comfortable with anyone but immediate family Sad

Forgot to add that with dc3 who didn't go to nursery at all we did do more things with him like numbers and mark making and followed the eyfs curriculum in the year before he went to school. The HV kept saying he would be behind because he didn't go to nursery but when she did his 4 year check it turned out he was ahead in all areas.

Depends on the nursery, depends on the child and it depends on what you do together at home. 🤷‍♀️

Neither of mine went to nursery. They both did mornings only at the school nursery for the year before reception.
We did toddler groups, library sessions and lots of trips/outings. Both spoke fairly fluently at 2. Neither of them ever cried at drop off once they started school.

There are some very strange views here. So much will depend on the character of each individual child - nothing to do with nursery!

I really wouldn't worry. It depends completely on the child and other factors.

My just turned 3 year old has just started nursery. He absolutely loves it and is miles ahead in speech compared to his peers which has nothing to do with nursery (obviously as he just started).

It definitely won't put your child behind.

I'm glad you have posted op as I have a 2yo that I feel would benefit from nursery or play group for the social aspect of it. He is very quiet and doesn't speak yet and likes to play on his own

All the research shows that until about 3 years old children do better with their mum or homestyle care, rather than group care like a nursery. The exception to this is children who get poor care.
At about three children start to benefit from group care like a nursery.
Make sure you don't have the TV or radio on all day at home as that can affect speech. But your DC is still so young.

Ah so absolutely nothing to do with reaching the age of 2 then. When milestones are hit...

His speech was delayed and so he missed his milestones. I was referred to SALT and he saw a speech therapist. It wasn’t matter of him simply reaching them.
He was 2.5 when he started nursery.

My 21 month old talks a lot, all of the time. He hasn't been to nursery yet either. They all learn at their own pace, nursery or not.

This !

This just isn't true. You can read pretty much any paper to support your view point but there are essentially no decent quality studies and no consensus.
