Motherease wraps - is there much difference between medium and large?

DD (6 months, 15/16lbs) is wearing size 1 bimbles and small rikki wraps. Now the nappies seem OK for now, but the wraps are getting small.

I'm wondering about skipping the medium size and going straight to large. Will they be huge?

I use the airflows and there is a big difference. Ds has been in the medium size since 4/5 months I think and is still in them with room to spare at 14 months. He is a bit on the small side but the impression I get is that the smalls are used for a short space of time but the others last longer.

Try the M/L size in the airflow it may work especially if your dd has chubby thighs!

She doesn't have particulary chubby legs...

I think the Rikkis are more adjustable, no?

But I might try a medium ariflow and see

You might be able to get away with just having the mediums, actually. My DD is 22 months and around 23/24 lbs and she still fits a medium just fine. She was around 15 lbs at 6 months too, I think.

It depends more on the build of the baby than the weight, really. My DD is slim and narrow with skinny legs and thighs, the medium rikkis fit just fine over ME one size.

Hope that helps!

ds is 10 mo and is in large motherease wraps, put him in them at 7 mo. if i had known this i would nvr have bothered with the medium size!

Ceolas · 07/03/2008 20:46

scottishmum, are those Rikki or Airflows?

I can measure a M/L airflow for you if you like to see how small it goes. I prefer the poppers and they give better absorbancy, don't come undone once they get mobile, don't get tatty with the aplix and it takes them longer how to work out to get them off!

Ceolas · 07/03/2008 21:33

Thanks CarGirl. I looked on ebay and the m/l says from 20-27lbs whereas med is from 10-20lbs.

hey ceolas

DD (6m 19lbs ish) has just switched up from medium Airflows to large Rikkis over her size 2s for nights, but there's still lots of room in the mediums over size 1s during the day.

If you go straight to Large I'd get Rikkis as you can haul in the excess better, although all the things CarGirl says are true

Ceolas · 07/03/2008 21:45

Yes, tbh it's the night times that I'm feeling the pinch. I usually stick a couple of tots bots boosters in too and the whole thing is rather a squeeze!

Size 2s at night? Now there's an idea...

CarGirl · 07/03/2008 21:47

At 29lbs my dd still had room for growth in her M/L around the waist and legs as she is very very slim, I think it does depend on their shape as to whether the poppers will be tight enough to give a snug fit.

MrsBadger · 07/03/2008 22:31

(I was boosting size 1 bimbles for night till recently but the wings barely overlapped enough to keep the nippa off her skin, so I bought a single btp Bumble to try and have since been snapping up more Bumbles / size 2 Bimbles a few at a time secondhand)

Ceolas · 08/03/2008 10:01

I don't know if it's my imagination, but I have a couple of popper bimbles and feel they're bigger...

OK, am going to source a med airflow and take it from there

I don't know what rikkis or airflows are, i know they are called motherease large wraps for reusable nappies...

p.s. i use bounty kitchen roll for the liner bit. does any one know if it's ok to flush down the loo??

sorry for hijacking this thread!

CarGirl · 08/03/2008 19:51

Motherease do types of wraps
rikkis = velcro fastening
airflow = popper fastening

curlywurlycremeegg · 09/03/2008 09:03

Ceolas, the large are huge if you are moving up from a small, they will swamp your LO, DS2 is very chunky and 26lb and a large is still way to big for him...using M/L atm

scottishmum007 · 09/03/2008 13:43

thanks cargirl, so in that case we use the 'rikkis' as it's all velcro. wasn't too keen on the poppers.

CarGirl · 09/03/2008 13:45

if you have a heavy wetter the airflows work better plus mine all learnt to take the velcro wraps off at a young age.........

scottishmum007 · 09/03/2008 13:53

yeah he does try to take the velcro off but i take his hand away and quickly fasten up the babygrow so he can't do it again. if he can't reach it he doesn't touch it.

Ceolas · 09/03/2008 20:06

Can I hijack my own thread and throw in a question about wool/fleece wraps?

DO they really work? Will we end up with soaking PJs in the morning?!

Tots Bots say they keep the wetness in whilst letting the moisture evaporate. Now, what's the difference between wetness and moisture? And where does it evaporate to?

I used fleece at night when DD was younger (about 7 months) and had sort of slightly damp jarmies sometimes after 12-14 hours but not soaked. I just use airflows now as it is easier to have just one wrap type (less rummaging through nappy box in the evening).

Not used wool (yet) so can't comment.

CarGirl · 10/03/2008 09:41

back to the original question! Motherease Air Flow wraps the M/L size the smallest around the leg measurement is 22cm and smallest around the waist is 38cm. Hope that helps!

Ceolas · 10/03/2008 10:06

Thanks CarGirl. That might just be the ticket. I measured her leg just now (Over her clothes while she was sleeping so not entirely scientific) and it's about 2cm. Maybe she is a chubby-legged one after all!
