Newborn and 18 month old, will I definitely need a double buggy?

And if so any advice on which one ? There's so many and no idea what kind I'll need.
I can't afford anything that's over 1k, looking for a fairly cheaper one if possible

Should say 17 month old. But basically the same age isn't it

I didn't get one but mine are 30 months apart so I'd say wait and see and then maybe buy a second hand one if you need to. 18 month old might be wanting to walk everywhere soon enough.

Yes you'll need one. Would go for mountain buggy duet or out n about double

BingoandBlueyForever · 14/09/2023 11:48

Depends a bit on what you need a pushchair for.
If you’re doing lots of nursery runs on foot, or taking the kids to the park/supermarket/toddlergroup on foot, then yes, definitely need a double push chair. If you drive everywhere and the pushchair just comes out while you’re at your destination then you might not need one. Or if you mostly drive but need a pushchair for long days out at weekends with both parents/with grandparents then you might find 2 single pushchairs work better. If my second had been born when my eldest was that age, I’d have 100% needed a double.

Seasidesusy · 14/09/2023 11:49

I would say yes. My DS is 20 months and loves walking but gets tired quickly and also is so slow sometimes when we need to get somewhere quickly! The other option would be a sling for newborn?

BingoandBlueyForever · 14/09/2023 11:51

If you don’t drive then you really need a double. You will have loads of days when you need to get somewhere at adult speed, not toddler speed, or days where you’re out the house over toddler nap time, or times when toddler is tantrumming and you just need to safely strap them in and go, or strap them in and stop and feed your newborn. A pushchair is a place to nap and a safe place to restrain a manic daredevil toddler (you might get lucky and have an obedient 2 yr old, but most of us find they are feral at that age).

saymynamesaymy · 14/09/2023 11:52

I could get a sling but don't fancy having baby in it all the time as I have a bad back, push chair will be easier ! I like both the mountain buggy and out and about - they seem pretty similar ?

If you keep the baby in a sling then you wouldn't need a double buggy.

I had 22 month gap and used ours loads. We were out on foot all day everyday and they needed to nap. There were times I had toddler walking, baby in sling and empty buggy but also a lot of time they were both in it and sleeping at the same time so we could get places and I could get a coffee with my hands free.

We had a Mountain Buggy Duet and it was great. Fits through all single doors and on buses easily.

saymynamesaymy · 14/09/2023 12:58

Do i need the Carry cot with these buggies?

OP posts:
DappledThings · 14/09/2023 13:01

I had one carrycot with mine. Slides into the flat seat. You probably don't definitely need it as the seats do go flat but I preferred it.

scrantonelectriccity · 14/09/2023 13:04

I don't drive and I use mine every day. I have the bugaboo donkey and I cannot fault it, I love it. You can get older ones second hand on the Bugaboo buy and sell Facebook group

Roselilly36 · 14/09/2023 13:06

yes a double buggy will make life easier, we had the mountain buggy one, would recommend, our two were 21mths apart. Many congratulations btw Flowers

scrantonelectriccity · 14/09/2023 13:06

Should add that my girls have a 2yr3month gap but DD doesn't walk far, at 18 months there would be no doubt I'd need a double!

What's the storage basket like is it a decent size ? I can't quite make it out from the pictures online

Yes I'd say deffo. My eldest was turfed out the buggy for the buggy board at almost 3.5, I don't drive so I was regularly walking distances far too long for her. She would have stayed it in longer if she could have. At 18m deffo would need a double. My DC2 didn't even learn to walk til 21 months too.

savemyears · 14/09/2023 13:59

I'd say you'd need one. I have a 14m gap and used it until my youngest was about 3. We had the baby jogger double and also a Phil and Ted inline one for a while which I could also use as a single. I had a carry cot for the baby jogger as I wanted my youngest to be facing me and he was tiny so the seat seemed way too huge for the first few months.

Once we were out of the baby stage I still kept it in the car for naps or long walks until eventually I lost it somewhere and didn't realise for a few weeks. I still miss it though when they're acting up after school and I can't just clip them in and march home 😂. They'd probably still fit, it was massive!

Yes, pretty decent. And there's the extra space in one seat if your toddler is walking for a bit too!

luckbealadytonight · 14/09/2023 14:19

I have exactly the same age gap.

Didn't bother with a bassinet compatible buggy as they're only used for such a short time.

Baby went in the carrier until she was a bit more robust and then they both go in the double.

I got the cheap Joie Aire double to keep in the car and found a second hand out and about for dog walks etc that lives at home.

The older DC is walking alot so it doesnt always feel like we need a double but when we need it, we NEED it.

For tandem naps and safety mainly.

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 14/09/2023 14:26

yes do get a double. I got a city mini from Facebook. Didn’t bother with a carrycot just got a nice sheepskin liner. She was very tiny and absolutely fine.

eastiseastwestiswest · 14/09/2023 14:27

Depends if you walk a lot but if you do then yes. I used mine every day for the first year at least and I loved it so much. We had the mountain buggy duet off FB a marketplace and it was brilliant.
