Best newborn grobag?

My baby is due in a month and looking for a newborn grobag. Can anyone recommend a good one? Also are the swaddle ones worth it?

Depends on the baby, DD went straight into normal sleeping bags however DS struggled to settle, got the tommee tippee swaddle bags and they worked a treat.

I’ve had several brands over the years (John Lewis, M&S, sainsburys, Mammas & Pappas).

They all seem pretty similar. Just try to find the smallest size you can. And some have extra poppers to make the arm holes smaller.

Just bear in mind the baby will probably be too small to use them straight away… if their head can fit through the head hole it’s not safe.

The swaddle ones can usually be used from birth and are much easier than traditional swaddling. They are great for newborns as the startle reflex often wakes them up. The main types either have arms up (Love to Dream) or arms down (Tommee Tippee). We tried both but mine preferred Love to Dream as she naturally slept with arms up.

This has prompted me to do some impulse buying for my baby due in January.. I’ve just bought the Halo swaddle bag - look like the best of both between swaddle and sleeping bag and will hopefully be useable from birth. And cheaper than a lot of others.

Can’t vouch for them though as not used them before.

The Tommee Tippee Gro Snuggle ones are the best as they have the option to use it as a convential sleeping bag or popper the arms shut to use it as a swaddle. So no matter what your baby’s preference, which you really can’t predict, you know you’ve hedged your bets and you won’t have wasted money! They also run really small so no issue with them fitting a newborn, in fact I’d recommend getting the next size up too to have on standby.

Thanks @TropicalTrama . This is my 3rd and my last was 9.3 and I'm having another boy so I don't think he's going to be small either! Will look at the Tommee Tippees.

Also does anyone know for October whether you'd go for a 1 or 2.5 tog?

I agree it's useful to have the option of arms in or out – one DD tolerated arms in for somewhere between 24-48 hours, and the other had to be arms out before we'd even left hospital.

For tog, it's going to depend on where you live and how warm your house is. If the room is between 16-20C, I think they're both suitable depending on what you dress baby in under them, so unless you think it's likely to be above 20C in your bedroom, I'd probably get the warmer one so you can keep using it as it gets colder.

I never swaddled so can't comment on those, but I can add another recommendation for the Tommee Tippee ones. 0-4months and 3-9 months have small enough neck and arm holes that you don't worry about them slipping in/out.

The generic 0-6 month ones sold in e.g. supermarkets are too big in the neck and arms to be used as newborn. Genuinely don't think any newborn however big could have a good fit.

I really regret buying new for these! £20/pop in several sizes/togs really added up when they're in great condition for a few quid on Vinted.

I’d probably get the 2.5 tog then you can go just a vest underneath or a vest + babygrow depending on how warm it is.

Love to dream, they do stages so a swaddle type one but with arms partially up, then a transition one etc. my daughter loves them.

Thanks everyone, I've just ordered a tommee tippee 2.5 tog one from vinted 😊
