I’m curious - It could be a mindset, tool, product, relationship… what are you missing to do a better job as a parent?

A school system that could adequately support my ASD severely dyslexic daughter.

A flexible job with a supportive employer. Feel like I really had to take a step back in my career to be a present parent.

Local authorities to stop routinely breaking the law over SEN. A proper paediatrician system like other developed countries have.

Oh and a Woody Allen style machine you can plonk a child in and they come out washed, dressed, coiffed, shod and with their teeth nicely brushed!

*as in "Sleeper", didn't mean to imply anything dodgy 😂

Family around who are able and willing to help, just with the odd evening so me and DH can have date nights every now and again or in emergencies.

An easier child

Patience.

Fast forward time. Babies are dull, he's slightly more interesting now at 9 months since he is more interactive but I'm looking forward to when he can actually talk and do stuff.

Phineyj · 06/09/2023 22:09

Yes!!! A different child. She is lovely, clever and funny but soooo high maintenance.

Phineyj · 06/09/2023 22:10

Also, having her ten years earlier. Hmm, I guess I actually need a TARDIS.

Grandparents -
grandparents who help- I think if my parents were alive they would have been great.

BlastedSkreet · 08/09/2023 08:55

A healthy body. Chronic pain and associated tiredness made parenting bloody hard.

hulahoopqueen · 08/09/2023 09:00

A housekeeper.
Statutory maternity pay (which I missed out on by 2 weeks, thanks to the company I worked for going into administration), rather than maternity allowance.
A baby who takes an occasional bottle.
