Hi everyone so annoyed right now and frustrated hopefully you guys can calm me down or tell me how to solve this situation

My two year old took the kitten litter tray and poured it out all over the living room floor and sofa where the kitten has been pooping and peeing 😖 i'm so annoyed right now

Worst thing is the hoover broke this morning and I don't even know what to do

Dustpan and brush, then clean any wet/soiled areas?

WestOfWestminster · 08/08/2023 15:40

How did you not notice them do it?

Hoppinggreen · 08/08/2023 15:40

Well at least he didn’t eat it

minipie · 08/08/2023 15:41

Breathe deeply! Count to 10.

Do you have a broom, dustpan and brush? Are the sofa covers removable?

Cloudsandrainnotsunandsand · 08/08/2023 15:42

Once caught my ds playing in the litter tray. It then lived outside....
*litter tray not dcat... Does dcat go out? Tray outside the back door during the day maybe? Hand brush and dustpan and some anti bac.. Don't worry op.

chychyete · 08/08/2023 15:44

@MrsKwazi supervise better lol so am I not suppose to turn around for a sec? As mums you know things happen very quickly

That’s why you separate kitten tray from small child!

trampoline123 · 08/08/2023 15:49

Can you sweep it up then get a wet cloth and wipe the surface area?

If you're really worried about it you could hire a steam cleaner.

We also keep the litter tray in a room with a baby gate over the doorway so kitty has a safe space to go toilet on and stops this happening.

elenacampana · 08/08/2023 15:53

Please ignore all these comments that are giving you a hard time OP, they just like a good snipe.

My toddler is a nightmare around all things to do with our cat incl the litter tray and food (as well as the cat tbh).

I don’t have advice as my only advice would be to do with hoovering. Just didn’t want to ignore your post when I know how easy it is for toddlers to get where you don’t want them.

erinaceus · 08/08/2023 15:56

I agree with others, take a deep breath. The mess can be cleaned up.

Can you borrow a hoover? Either from a local friend, one who has a car, or even a neighbour? I know if someone wanted to borrow my hoover in a similar situation I would lend it. (Maybe give them a little cash for a new hoover bag.)

I would hoover the dry cat litter, and use a damp cloth/kitchen paper/pet odour cleaning spray where needed.

Sprogonthetyne · 08/08/2023 16:02

Hard floor or carpets?

Dustpan and brush for the actual litter

If the sofa covers are removable, put them in the washer, if not soap and water.

If hard floor, anti-bac spray and damp cloth.

If carpets, you can rent a carpet cleaner from some supermarkets. Or if it's not that bad, just get a new hoover (even just a cheep one for now). You can usually click and collect straight away from argos if you have one near by. Then once the dust is up, give it a good spray of anti-bac and leave to dry.

MojoJojo71 · 08/08/2023 16:05

I wouldn’t hoover it up anyway, you’ll never get the smell out of the hoover. Dustpan and brush and then wash surfaces down with a wet cloth and disinfectant.

Timeforabiscuit · 08/08/2023 16:10

If you don't have a dustpan and brush, get the kitten sorted in one room with water and litter tray, get the toddler in front of the TV or in a play pen if you have one.

Then use old cardboard to scoop the cat litter up,then use a damp cloth to mop up the dusty bits, then either remove the cover and wash them, rent or borrow a vacuum cleaner if its carpet.

It happens, the toddler and kitten will be adorable again for a short period before they do something infuriating.

chychyete · 08/08/2023 16:24

It's not just in one part of the carpet my toddler threw it everywhere like it was sand and smothered everything in the carpet

minipie · 08/08/2023 16:28

Is it a rug you can pick up and shake out, or fitted carpet

Fitted carpet I would be begging a friend or neighbour to borrow hoover and offering to pay and replace hoover bag

Crochetablanket · 08/08/2023 16:33

I wouldn’t vacuum it - the vacuum cleaner will then need a clean out or will smell too.
Dustpan and brush the litter / dirt then disinfectant and warm water to wash everything down.

YourNameGoesHere · 08/08/2023 16:35

Just use a dustpan and brush and then find somewhere else for the litter tray so the poor kitten can use it away from the 2 year old.

Crochetablanket · 08/08/2023 16:36

Sadly sometimes toddlers do move faster than the speed of light - so maybe move your litter tray -and anything else they can grab - somewhere else ?
I remember those days - carpet smothered in sudocrem, every tissue removed from the box, damp biscuits down the side of the sofa …..

bryceQ · 08/08/2023 16:37

I have a disabled child who smears poo constantly I get it!

Dust pan and brush then wipe everything with anti bac and bleach and hot water.

Good luck

IRecogniseTheLocationInThePicture · 08/08/2023 16:40

I’m going to recommend wood based cat litter for future use. Poop scoop the lumps out with poop scoop bags & bin, wee just turns to sawdust . So clean.

My brain keeps missing the litter out of your title. Every time I read it is says
”Toddler poured kittens all over carpet and sofa” and I was thinking how lovely lots of kittens sound-sorry!

Deep breath then grab the broom. It’s not unfixable op but it sounds like the final straw for you today Flowers

Housefullofcatsandkids · 08/08/2023 16:41

What type of litter is it? If very fine then I'd sweep most of it and then ask if a neighbour or friend could lend you a hoover. I hate litter trays at the best of times, I tend to use the natural litter and spot pick the poop rather than the clumping stones style which is horrendous. Counting the days til my kitten can go outside lol!

ttacticall · 08/08/2023 16:41

Be careful around anti bacterial sprays and cleaners around cats and kittens. The active ingredient can be toxic to them.
