Can a baby move into their own room at 4 months of age?

Hello all,

I feel as a new parent that the truth of parenting is rarely reflected.

Is every single parent in the UK sitting quietly in a dark room with their baby just waiting for sids to strike? I don’t think so.

There are over 650,000 births every year in the UK and 200 babies sadly die. The per cent chance of risk is close to nothing.

However, I do invite any new parents to ponder on my question. Can a baby move into their own room at 4 months of age? Does the baby monitor counter much of the worry out there as you can see baby is sleeping well and breathing?

My baby sleeps for stretches of 4 hours and bottle, 3 hours and bottle, 3 hours and bottle, then 2 hours and then gets up etc.

Please don’t quote googled statistics and feel free to give your own perspective.

Thank you.

Just also wanted to add that there were still some days where I co-slept if he really didn't settle, and he will also now either contact nap or nap on the go (pram/car) but will also be rocked to sleep and settled in his crib for naps too.

Forgot to add, my main reason for moving baby early was because of outgrowing the side by me and I had no space for the cot
I'd already bought in the nursery

Could get my 2 out of my bed until they were almost school age, so cannot contemplate how people manage it with a tiny baby!!

I had my babies in the very early 2000s so my 3 boys are in their late teens early 20s now.
I felt I was encouraged to get my babies into a routine, bath at 6, bed by 7 etc. Contented Little Baby book was all the rage etc. My boys were in their own rooms by 3 months and sleeping through. I did find parenting a breeze, thought it was all a doddle as long as you followed the routine.

I don't know how I feel about it now. Looking back I do wish I had been more hands on. I wish I had trusted my instincts more rather than a book. However my young men are fine and happy. It's just me who feels a bit empty about their babyhood. 😔

@Azandme at the risk of sounding like the OP, thank you for sharing your experience and I'm really glad things went well for you. It was interesting to read about but must have been terrifying to live through.

Moved mine at 6 weeks. It was the right decision for us.
