Not to have baby on picnic blanket in Park?

I took my children and baby(4 and a half months old)over the park and sat under a tree in the shade.the park is obviously popular with dog walkers, which I have no issue with.Anyway, a woman walked passed and loudly said to her dog "oh I can't let you off the lead, there's a BABY on the floor".slightly passive aggressive to me.for some reason,it's really grated on me since.

She is rude and ridiculous.

kitsuneghost · 21/06/2023 16:58

She shouldn't be having the dog off the lead in a public space anyway
Entitled dog owner

Flittingaboutagain · 21/06/2023 16:59

What an unnecessary comment from an entitled woman. I had my two under two having a picnic last week and this dog came sniffing over to our picnic blanket. The owner said don't worry she's friendly as the dog sniffed my toddler's food before I could put it away. Some people are so unbelievably clueless and selfish.

How would a picnic blanket help anyway - surely if her dog is out of control, a piece of square fabric wouldn't stop it?

ApplesArmClock · 21/06/2023 17:02

YABU. To the woman, the dog is her beloved fur baby. She might even identify as a dog herself and everyone should be able to enjoy the park, not just babies.

kidding 😂yanbu

bibbityboppityboo · 21/06/2023 17:02

It wasn't a dog park was it?

GreenWheat · 21/06/2023 17:04

Babies have priority over dogs in the space you're talking about. Not your problem if she's annoyed about that.

AntediluvianWitch · 21/06/2023 17:05

What a plonker. Maybe she should try teaching her dog to behave itself off lead. If your dog would be a danger to a child off the lead, it shouldn't ever be off the lead in a public place.

Shinier · 21/06/2023 17:06

She was just letting the dog know why, he’d probably asked

ParadiseLaundry · 21/06/2023 17:06

She's an utter twat. I swear sometimes some people seem to think babies should exist.

Btw I thought your post was about giving birth to a baby in the park Grin please to see I was wrong.

Maddy70 · 21/06/2023 17:07

I talk to my dog all the time. I wouldn't read anything into that

Saschka · 21/06/2023 17:09

If her dog is so unpredictable that it is a risk to other people’s children, it shouldn’t be off lead full stop.

Fandabedodgy · 21/06/2023 17:10

You were right

Woman was a passive aggressive bitch

GoldDuster · 21/06/2023 17:10

What she meant was, Oh I can't let you off the lead, I haven't trained you properly and I would like the world to accommodate that. Drives me bonkers.

gogomoto · 21/06/2023 17:15

Sounds like she has a problem dog and knows it! My dog would not go near you because he's trained (he doesn't even steal picnics) why don't people train their dogs 🤷‍♀️

Small mercy I suppose that she realises her dog's fault

LadyTemperance · 21/06/2023 17:15

When will dog owners learn that not the world does not owe them anything. So many think it is ok for their dogs to be running loose annoying people. For those who would say similar to their dogs, please stop. It does sound very passive aggressive.

Raindropsarefallingheavily · 21/06/2023 17:17

All parks where I live carry a £1000 potential fine for ddogs off lead.. Check out your park and quote it if it happens again.

MendedDrum · 21/06/2023 17:28

Drives me bloody nuts. When DS was about 8 months old I was in the park with a couple of friends with similar age babies on a blanket and a dog bounded over and trampled on one of the other babies, I scooped DS up and put my foot out to ward off the dog. The owner came puffing over, got grotty with me because I'd put my foot out towards the dog and then whined that it was because we had a blanket so obviously the dog thought there would be picnic food. Like that excused it. I was fucking furious.

ColourMeBlue · 21/06/2023 17:45

I'm glad people agree,I thought it was me being unreasonable.i have two dogs so really don't have an issue.thw woman was about 10 foot away so she blatantly said it loud enough for me to hear.

ColourMeBlue · 21/06/2023 17:46

I really don't have a issue with dogs in general I mean.it wasn't a dog walking park but I am aware in every park people will walk dogs, but most people don't tend to leave them free roam right by the park

It wouldn't help.i was setting the scene-it was a nice day out and I was made to feel I'd inconvenienced someone purely by my baby having some fresh air at a family park😊

That's just reminded me-a few years ago a dog stole a cheese sandwich from our picnic, then the owner came and had a go at me for feeding his dog 😂

JG24 · 21/06/2023 17:52

I've got an 8 week old and when we're out and about and going for walks I often breastfeed on benches or picnic blankets and the amount of dogs that come bounding over is ridiculous
I have no experience with dogs and can't quickly stand up whilst feeding so it scares me every
time that one day an aggressive dog will go for the baby and I'll be too slow to stop it

Orangebadger · 21/06/2023 18:02

Another opportunity to bash dogs and dog owners and I'm not referring to the OP.

Now I have a 9 month old puppy. Not aggressive, not a problem dog at all. Actually has good recall now after a LOT of training and I have a good handle on her. But if I saw a baby lying on a picnic blanket, which is totally not a problem!! I would snap the lead back on her as I would worry that she would run up to the baby and no one wants that! So it's not as some are suggesting a problem dog or a dog out of control that necessitates the need for the dog to be on a lead in this case but a vulnerable baby that we all need to ensure is not jumped on, even if it's highly unlikely that an owner thinks it's dog would do that, it's a sensible precaution.

No idea why the dog owner felt the need to say it, maybe she said it to let you know she wasn't going to risk her dog coming over to your baby? I am not sure why it would be passive aggressive as most dog owners I know are very aware that we share these spaces
