I'm ill with Covid and my husband is feeding my son on our bed

Hi everyone,

I tested positive 3 days ago for Covid and been confined to our spare room so my husband and 5-year-old son don't catch it. We both work from home.

For the past 2 days my husband has fed my son breakfast and dinner on our bed in front of a TV or iPad. Basically as soon as my son has got home from school both days he has just watched screens until bedtime.

This evening I said to my husband I didn't feel it was appropriate that he had my son eating on the bed morning and night and he has shouted at me, told me how dare I question him and what he wants to do and that it is how he is managing the situation.

What are your thoughts? How would you handle this situation?

If you were very poorly you wouldn't care what was going on in the rest of the house. If you are well enough to pick holes in what your husband is doing you are well enough to sort it out yourself. You don't need to isolate

Maybe read the OP posts.

HER DH wanted her to test and isolate because HE didn’t want to catch covid.
He can’t ask the OP to self isolate and then moan he has to look after his own child in his own. Let alone finding it so hard that it’s all about ‘managing the situation’ rather than simply parenting his own child.

It is his son :-)

im still surprised at how little is expected from fathers tbh. I shouldn’t but I am.

agreed. Some people really need to increase their expectations of men

It's my husband who wanted me to isolate so he and our son don't catch it.

Is your husband working from home during this time? Think this is crucial, tbh. If I was ill and dh was nipping out to do school runs during his work hours, I’d not bat an eyelid if the dc ate in front of the TV while he caught up on work. It’s short term OP.

It wouldn't bother me at all. I think you are being OTT isolating in a room though. Wear a mask if you must and join your family.

It's my husband who wanted me to isolate so he doesn't catch it.

He’s being a twat thinking you should test and isolate. I’d tell him to sod off.

And what sort of slob feeds their child on the bed? Weird.

I agree, it doesn't sound like it is his son

I really don’t get people who still treat covid like it’s the Black Death. It’s completely over the top.

And if it as they the way around?

What would you say to a mum who is asking her DH to isolate and does the school run etc… in between wfh?
Normal, like so many women have done in the past anyway or to avoid childcare cost etc…
Or a HUGE thing to ask her to do that, even just fur a few days, all in her own??

I'd think less of my Dh in this situation. A lot less! what if you were ill for months or (God forbid) you died? Or even just divorced?
Your husband needs to grow up and learn how to parent! I suspect it's as much about letting your child watch tv for hours as it is about feeding him...

GracePalmer33 · 06/05/2023 06:35

Some people are nuts. It's not "normal" to plonk your kid on your bed in front of the TV to eat their food morning noon and night when normally they'd eat at the dining table. It's a real "I can't be arsed" response to having to do basic parenting.

I love my husband but when he goes out after work or on a weekend, life continues as normal, baby has her normal routine, gets out to bed etc. if I get back home after bedtime there's a good chance she'll be asleep in her day clothes in her bouncer chair while he watches succession or something and I'll have to precariously change her and transfer her up to bed and get the night bottle prepared etc etc - all the things I would usually do and he sees me doing day after day.
