Finally found a flat I like/ can afford but there's no bath!!

Bit of backstory I live at home with parents and my 1 year old, work part time and also receive benefits. I've been trying to move out for months but landlords where I live don't like taking on people on benefits and alsoo it's so hard to find anything where I live within my budget. So I found a flat not too far away in an ok location which is sort of in my budget that I like BUT it has no bath. (My daughter has oilatum baths for her eczema). I was looking at those foldable baths but I'm not sure one would fit in the shower because of the shape of it, it's a smallish corner shower. Is there any solution to this.. Am I over thinking it or should I leave it

We regularly had baths in the kitchen sink when we were kids- depending on age that could be an option

Oftenaddled · 15/04/2023 20:40

How big is the bathroom? Pop foldable bath into Amazon. Lots of possibilities. You could probably fill from the showerhead and drain or empty into the shower.

Don’t reject the flat, OP. Your independence is so important.

You can bath her at your parents’ house “properly” sometimes.

KaihahUmoniiv · 15/04/2023 20:43

Go for it

The large rubber trug buckets sold in B&Q will be an adequate bath until age about 6, by which time most kids can switch to showers.

Evely · 15/04/2023 20:44

Get a shnuggle toddler bath (not the baby one - there are 2 sizes so just make sure you get the right size). If your kid is just 1yr old it will last them ages, upto about 3 yrs old (depending on size of child) and by then hopefully they'll be able to use the shower.

MorehouseplantsPls · 15/04/2023 20:46

My almost 3yr old still can easily have pretty deep baths in this. It fits in our tiny shower cubicle

A folding or inflatable bath in the kitchen might work better than the bathroom, if there is more space.

User478 · 15/04/2023 20:55

We use one of these for DD, tbh I could probably use it, it's massive!

Think about how you will drain it though. I can't lift 75litres (75 kilos) and it will go everywhere if you just knock/turn it over. You can syphon it out with a bit of hose but if you were doing it regularly I would get one with a plug.

Flowersintheattic57 · 15/04/2023 20:56

We used the biggest of the gorilla trugs that is quite shallow, I think it’s often used in stables for the horses. Ground floor flat so it was often dragged outside for water play there too. Very durable. Less faff than an inflatable too.

thank you for all the replies. Only problem is with bathing her not in the shower is filling it up would be a bit of a ball ache. I like the inflatable paddling pool idea.. found this picture on Reddit which funnily enough is pretty much the exact design of the shower in the flat. gonna apply for it tomorrow 🤞 Thanks everyone!

So glad you are taking the flat

Newnamebox · 15/04/2023 21:11

DS has always had his baths in a clear rectangular plastic storage box in the shower and he’s 5! Admittedly it’s a big shower base but suggesting in case the same works for you. Up until about age 3 - 4 or so (before we moved) we would put the box on a plastic sheet in the lounge. Our old shower was much smaller and in an awkward place.

I don’t know if this is the size we have so don’t buy this one without checking but along these lines. We started with a medium sized box and then bought a bigger one when it got too small. The bigger box is too big to fill and move in the lounge https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9485420

I sound a huge killjoy here but as an aside do check about what “sort of” being able to afford the property means. Downside what will you need to give up and if they aren’t included have you factored in utility bills?

Then you can balance with the positive independence.

UniversalTruth · 15/04/2023 21:13

@hdkwjrbek Oilatum also make a shower gel. If you would be happy to try a new product for DC then you could give this a go?

ThisIsMyHappyFacee · 15/04/2023 21:14

I bought this and it's brilliant! Much nicer than an actual bath as it's lovely and deep

@Stratocumulus I just feel guilty cause she loves her baths and playing with all her bath toys id feel bad taking that away from her 🥺

She can have a bath when she visits grandparents. If you like it take it you can sit her in the shower tray and fill that up.with some water she can splash about does the shower head come down ?

Ilovetea13 · 15/04/2023 21:20

I had a flat with no bath until DS was around 3.
Used to use a gorilla tub, it was a pain filling it up but it worked great for bathing and he used to love sitting it in.
Love the paddling pool idea though I wish I'd thought of that at the time!

Mmndanone · 15/04/2023 21:22

Having a bath was a must have when we bought our first house.

Since the kids turned 2 and 5 they very very rarely get in the bath and have a shower instead. It was good when they were smaller but there are so many other options for such a small amount of time.

I also imagined nights soaking in the tub but that hasn’t happened.

Don‘t turn down an ideal property for a temporary problem

Mmndanone · 15/04/2023 21:23

You can play with bath toys in the shower too 😊

Redebs · 15/04/2023 21:24

Those big flexible tubs are great. You could easily put one in. Keep it tipped up when not in use for safety

SophiaSW1 · 15/04/2023 21:35

We used to use an inflatable kids bath for holidays too. They are fantastic

JingleBellez · 15/04/2023 21:36

there's an inflatable bath that fits in the shower on amazon x

1Week · 15/04/2023 21:36

Good luck with the application OP!
