Is mayo okay for cmpa?

Is there milk in it ? Sorry no idea, trying to wean my baby with cmpa and wondering I can give them egg mayo and I tried just scrambled eggs with dairy free butter and it just sat in their mouth

Mayonnaise doesn't tend to contain dairy but you need to check the ingredients on the one you have.

I have to say though that I'd avoid processed stuff like mayo at this early stage which has a few ingredients in it as if she was to react you won't know whether it's to the fat content, the egg, the mustard etc...

Thank you. I was going to use vegan Mayo ! Not sure if that's any better. Just want to make it easier to swallow

Vegan mayo is egg-free. Mayo doesn't usually have cow's milk in it but you should always check the ingredients. Be aware that some babies with CMPA can have other allergies too, and the most common (after milk) are egg, wheat and soya, so be careful to space those items out when you introduce them for the first time.

I've found that "light" mayo can sometimes contain milk, so best to watch out for that. Most fine though so just check the ingredients. Vegan mayo will obviously be egg and dairy free. It's a minefield but you do get used to it!

I have introduced bread , white and best of both, dc had toast for 3 days (not much at all but does it matter how much they have ?)
So can I presume bread is okay ?
So now I am trying to introduce egg im just struggling with how to serve it, the fingers of things shit me up

You can serve slices of hard boiled egg, or Scrambled egg, omelette, or baked egg in savoury muffins (there's a lovely sweet potato and spinach recipe online). If introducing egg is the plan obviously don't go for vegan mayo.
I'd assume bread was fine, just keep plodding. Its easy enough at first doing the single fruit/veg but gets harder as you get down the road. But it does even out!

I knew vegan Mayo wouldn't have milk in im not that thick lol I was asking if it's better than normal Mayo regarding other ingredients - wasn't sure if normal Mayo had milk in !

You need to be checking your own packets, likely no milk especially in vegan stuff but you never know and with allergies you need to be on it.

Just want to make it easier to swallow
How old is baby? If you’re weaning they’re learning to eat, it will take time.

Also another silly question - if I'm introducing an allergen, can I still give dc a strawberry or something if I haven't given them one before ? I'm guessing yes because it isn't an allergen ? Just don't know if I need to stick to just the allergen I'm introducing that day or I can give another food which isn't an allergen

There is no such thing as allergens v non-allergens. Babies can be allergic to literally anything (including strawberries). There are just more common allergens and very rare ones.

I don’t have a great deal experience with allergens but I hear you with the weaning. It is scary but at 6 months they’re learning to eat, don’t panic if he’s not chewing or swallowing its all normal, and gagging too. Noisey gagging is part of the process as terrifying as it is. Silent choking is when you need to act. I found doing a baby first aid course helped with my worry about food and choking. You also can try traditional puréed food rather than blw for a few weeks / months then move on to more textures. It’s a long process, sending solidarity!

Strawberries are actually a common allergen (sorry!), along with kiwi.

My DS has allergies and once we discovered that, we were advised to literally only give stuff he’d had before if we were trialing something new that was a common allergen. This is so you can really tell what he’s had the reaction to. We were told to give it a few days and then if there was no reaction then assume it was fine.

They also said do the new food at lunch time if possible so it had time to react during the day

I definitely found the process stressful! My DD has no allergies (although I was on alert because of DS) and that was a lot easier process.

You may find it reassuring to read the Baby led weaning book. Even if you don't do it. Very helpful descriptions of baby picking up their own food around 6 months old and choosing to eat or not. An allergy can sometimes be felt by a tingling on the lips and the studies watching babies feeding themselves showed babies would put a food back. Babies can also get fixated on foods and that's normal. Look for variety over the course of a week not a day.

Some babies are not quite ready at 6 months...some take a bit more time. When they're ready then they are literally ready to grab a chip off your plate and shove it in their mouth and eat it!! The more practice they have with putting food in their mouth and it falling out is also good. It takes a while y o learn to move solid food from the front of the mouth and to chew it and then swallow it.

I wouldn’t have thought regular mayo contains milk but I would double check the ingredients.
my little boy has cmpa and also an egg allergy. We found that out at 8 months when I served him a fingers width of omelette and he immediately broke out in hives, his skin went red wherever the egg touched and he got extremely irritated and distressed. We ended up having to go to hospital for it. He can tolerate egg baked in cakes and egg noodles so trying them first before egg by itself is always an option. I would also only try a very small amount for a first go. I’m talking tiny bit mixed in with something else like avocado or something you have tried already. Don’t do what I did and give loads on a first go!
you do not need to try one food at a time. However, if your family has a history of allergies and with the cmpa, I would recommend giving the top allergens (egg, soy, wheat, peanut/nuts, sesame, fish, milk) one at a time to make sure. It’s likely that if they do have a reaction it will be immediate unlike the cmpa so be prepared.

What @Pizzaandsushi said is correct. Start small. As your baby has an allergy only do one at a time. With egg they suggest you start with very hard boiled egg (a very small amount) and mix it with something else.

My son had cmpa and we discovered other allergies in weaning. The type of allergy he has (FPIES) is very very rare but it only triggers after a certain amount of protein has been consumed. More than a tablespoon. So just be aware that allergies (any type) don't always appear on the first intro, you need to keep an eye out it for a few times.

With my DD (who also has allergies) I just started weaning with single vegetables for the first few weeks. One new food a day. Then once I'd tried a few vegetables started combining them, then added meat or fish to already tried out vegetables.

Don't feel pressured to do baby led weaning. I preferred to give pureed food to DD with a spoon. She's by far the best eater out of her friendship group now at 6 years old so I don't think the lack of sticks of food has impacted.

BLW isn't about sticks of food. It's about baby bringing the food to their mouth themselves. So purée loaded on a spoon for them to take and put in their own mouth, or for them to dip their hand into and self feed, also fits into the definition. Don't let comments about BLW put you off the Solid Starts allergy advice. It is excellent.

I tended to mix the full allergen amount in with a small amnt of the meal/purée first and give them that to make sure they consumed the quantity of the allergy needed. Then give seconds of the meal if wanted.

Hi everyone thanks for the comments. I do have the solid starts app and I'm finding it really useful so far. I just need to get over this fear I have I guess and let baby go for it. I would prefer to give baby a spoon though to be honest as sticks frighten me !

Dc had a tiny amount of egg this morning, I'm not sure it was even swallowed! Thinking what I could do tomorrow morning with egg that isn't going to give me a panic attack
