Did your baby sleep better or worse in their own room?

DS2 is nearly 6 months old so soon we will be trying him in his own room. He used to sleep well with one feed a night but since the 4 month regression he wakes at least every 2 hours through the night to be resettled, usually more, and only catnaps. He can “self settle” for naps and bedtime but it doesn’t stop the wakes. He still wakes up if we cosleep. I am desperately hoping that being in his own room might improve things because I’m sure me and DH disturb him especially as DH snores. I’ve always said I’d never sleep train but I really am exhausted now.

Did it make your little one’s sleep better or worse?

Both my DC slept better in their own rooms. As did we!

cptartapp · 25/02/2023 17:15

Better. But it coincided with stopping bf too.

DragonbornMum · 25/02/2023 17:18

Initially, no it really wasn't better. But it was a phase, and he got over it and went back to sleeping well.

My baby girl slept though the nights in next to bed cot from 2-6 months. I should have moved her earlier than 6 months as she started to understand that we were next to her and had a really hard time to move into her own room .

However, when I talk to other mums they say their baby didn't sleep well next to them and sleeps well now in their own room.

So my theory is this: your baby will sleep better as he isn't a good sleeper with you know. He might need his on space as your turning/breathing wakes him up.

cadburyluver · 25/02/2023 20:01

We moved our baby girl at 6.5 months
She sleeps better as in we don't wake her and she's quite a noisy sleeper so every little noise used to wake me up

She still has a night feed but sleeps 630-5-6ish sometimes later if we are lucky x

sunseaandme · 25/02/2023 20:18

He does sleep better in his own room, we had a blip when he learned to roll as he was doing it all night long then crying but when he moved past that phase he sleeps better. Apparently I am a loud snorer!

SapphireSunday · 25/02/2023 20:18

Absolutely better. She was still waking twice a night when we moved her into her own room at 6 months and within a matter of weeks she dropped both wakeups and slept through. She’s 18 months now and for the most part still sleeps through.

I’m a terribly restless sleeper though, always tossing and turning and DH snores like a train so hardly surprising really!

PleasantZen · 25/02/2023 20:19

Much better with both

shakeitoffsis · 25/02/2023 20:29

Better! She only ever woke once a night and stopped night feeds at 10 weeks but she sleeps about 7.30-6 in her own room then comes in ours and goes back sleep for an hour or so.

shakeitoffsis · 25/02/2023 20:29

She's 5.5 months btw.

chanceofpear · 25/02/2023 21:26

Better 100%. Its hard moving them out though.

MGee123 · 25/02/2023 21:33

Better, but ditto pp this coincided with stopping BF so not sure what (if any of it) helped.

TellSomeoneElse · 25/02/2023 21:39

So much better. We were all disturbing each other (me, DH, DS, DDog 😂) and it just made sense to give DS his own space. He’s always been a great sleeper but by six months (probably earlier tbh), he definitely needed his own bedroom.

iloveyankeecandle · 25/02/2023 21:41

Both of mine slept better.

Willowrose63 · 25/02/2023 21:44

Moved through to own room at 9 months and she definitely slept better!

Workinghardeveryday · 25/02/2023 21:53

3 kids, all better

Helena1993 · 26/02/2023 06:12

Much better

Emptycrackedcup · 26/02/2023 06:16

I'm sure better as me stirring was disruptive to him and vice versa. Own room at 8 months (I probably should've done it at 7)

bussteward · 26/02/2023 06:16

Absolutely no different, but I slept better in the evenings when DP was on shift for wake-ups as I got to properly sleep instead of with a child next to me. Brought her into our bed from midnight though. Mind you she didn’t go into her own room til she was one and started to do three-hour stretches: she was a TERRIBLE sleeper. I’m typing this with a newborn on my boob and the terrible sleeper STILL in my bed - she’s just come in after a bad dream - at 4. Aaargh.

hadenoughforever · 26/02/2023 06:17

All of mine much better in their own room (4 children). The eldest two old enough to be sharing by time baby four arrived. This was years and years ago but remember the relief at getting a block of sleep.

loopyloutoo · 26/02/2023 06:37

Has anyone moved baby before six months?

gettingalifttothestation · 26/02/2023 06:56

Better. Also try not to rush in. Give a chance to get themselves back off to sleep.

sopsop · 26/02/2023 06:57

Much better in their own room after a bit of sleep training.

Has anyone moved baby before six months?

By three months. This was 20 years ago though.

Has anyone moved baby before six months?

Yes, everyone I know but not in the UK. In Europe you move them to their own room straight away unless there are some medical conditions.
