just that really.
thinking about getting little boy a jumperoo (not a door frame one) - will this hinder his development/hips/walking/crawling etc?

Not at all. Our three year old had one and she swims, does yoga daily, dance classes etc. I found it really useful to give her a bit of independence while I had to get lunch ready etc, limited it to ten mins

Seasidesusy · 09/02/2023 10:53

We had one for my now 1 year old. He loved it and it was so helpful for keeping him in one spot while I cleaned up after meals or prepped his lunch. As long as you limit time in it, it’s fine. Make sure you look at guidelines for the height and feet position.

Seasidesusy · 09/02/2023 10:54

Oh also he was sitting up by himself at 5 months, crawling at 7 and now walking so didn’t hinder any development

Once you follow the current guidance on the time they can be in them - I think they are fine. I picked up one on local site for very little and passed it on - they use them for such a short time and it is all easily washable/sanitized.

My boys loved a few minutes a couple of times a day.

Fuckitydoodah · 09/02/2023 10:57

We had one for both DC. They loved it, and was great to be able to pop them in it whilst I got some stuff done.

Don't buy new though, they're always being sold second hand on Facebook, Gumtree etc. I bought ours second hand and sold it on again for not much less than I'd paid for it.

Best bit of kit ever! Babies love and you get to adore them hands free

Digestive28 · 09/02/2023 10:57

it works well but…the tune it plays will stay in your head forever!

Haha very good point!

Buffysoldersister · 09/02/2023 10:59

We had one bought for us. Pros - kids do love them, gets you 5 mins free to e.g. get dinner ready and it won't hinder development if you limit use. Cons - they look hideous, take up loads of space and have a limited lifespan of being useful. On the upside you can sell on quite easily. I wouldn't bother but mainly because I was constantly stubbing my toes on the stupid thing, not because I think it will hinder your baby's development if used sensibly.

PinkPlantCase · 09/02/2023 10:59

We had a door frame one as it was all we had space for.

It was really useful when DS was between about 7 - 10 months old. When he wanted to move about but couldn’t really yet.

Great for when we were cooking dinner etc. he was contained, safe but could see us and move around. He loved it!

The only downside we found was that if we stood him up on our legs when we were supporting him he’d want to be bounced!

Chasedbythechaser · 09/02/2023 11:01

My children only ever stayed in it for ten minutes before screaming to get out. Definitely buy second hand.

MeinKraft · 09/02/2023 11:04

It depends how much time they spend in them. 5 minutes while you go to the shower and another 5 while you prep the dinner - fine. One hour in the morning and another hour in the evening - not good for development.

timetorefresh · 09/02/2023 11:07

Both of mine loved the jumperoo.

So true!

jacult · 09/02/2023 11:08

Loved it! We got a foldable one second hand and then passed it on afterward. Ours folded up and slid under the sofa.

TheSnowyOwl · 09/02/2023 11:10

Agree about getting second hand. Of my children, who all went in one, one walked at 10 mths and another at 10.5mths.

ecossegirl91 · 09/02/2023 11:11

Thanks all!
it’s a fold up one I’ve seen so under couch for storage!
yes it would just be so I can eat/shower use the toilet 😂😂 all of life’s little pleasures I took for granted!

what age did people start?

I used a door frame one from ~3 months old. DD was able to sit unsupported at that age. I didn't know what the guidelines were, so DD spent as long as she want in it. (She wanted to stand pretty much from birth!) I don't think it hindered her development as she was walking at 8 months. (However, she screamed if I ever tried to give her tummy time and couldn't crawl until 12 months).

trrk · 09/02/2023 11:26

I wasn’t planning to buy one but did after seeing how much DD loved one at a friends house and have no regrets. I do try to limit the time to 10-15 min. Started at 6 months.

Yes it was an absolute god send. My LB was very demanding and hard to entertain so I defo had him in it longer than the guidance says. He walked at 11 months and is very physically active now at almost 2, there's not much he can't do - it defo didn't hinder any development.

fruitandfibreg · 09/02/2023 11:35

Was great! Got mine second hand for £20 too

Twizbe · 09/02/2023 11:38

Nope. I had a large play pen instead. Took up room but they could play in there while I did other jobs.

MrsMiddleMother · 09/02/2023 11:38

Never had one for either of my children and both walked at 10 months etc I really don't think they're necessary. Make sure your space is safe and child friendly and there's no reason they can't crawl about and play etc without being stuck in a jumperoo.

snowflake29 · 09/02/2023 11:40

We have the fold up one and DC1 loved it! No issues with development, he walked at 11 months.

Planning to use it with 5 month old but he's not quite ready for it yet.
