Grandad won't look after Grandson

Long and short of it is that my Ds was sick at his CMs on Tuesday so can't have him for another 48hours so next day she can have him is Friday. Wife took 2 days off work whilst I work a 2 day conference, tomorrow we both have important meetings to attend in the afternoon, explained the situation to my boss and okayed working from home.
We rang everyone we could think of and none were available, so I rang my Dad, I don't know what I was thinking. He basically refused and said he would if he could but he can't cos he has work. I understand that but why couldn't he even notion the motion with his boss to see if they could work something out, I'm a manager myself and would hope employees having to deal with a situation like their GS being sick and being asked to babysit by their son or daughter would be perfectly reasonable to take a morning or day off work.. anyone else had to deal with a situation like this, were you annoyed at them or understanding?

Sounds like it’s your turn if mum has already done 2 days!

In my experience most meeting could be an email anyways…

Notion the motion 🤣🤣

TriciaMcMillan · 08/02/2023 20:01

I think this jumped the shark with 'notion the motion'.

Take a day off yourself

Yes, I have had countless times over the years where I’ve had an ill child and DH or I had to take time off work. No, I wouldn’t have asked a working grandparent to do it instead!

If you’re such a good manager, you can arrange a day’s leave to care for your own child!

prettybluebell · 08/02/2023 20:06

I can't believe what I'm reading, it's so strange that you expect your dad to take time off work to care for your son. Why do you think your job is more important than your dads? Why would you even consider your dad taking time off work an option? You and your wife have to deal with this. It's your responsibility not your dads! You are so unreasonable!

knobheadinlaws · 08/02/2023 20:06

Surely then, an employee having to deal with situation like their DC being sick overrules this and YOU should be taking the day off to take care of YOUR child

CherieBabySpliffUp · 08/02/2023 20:06

I agree with everyone else. Your child, your responsibility.

SheilaFentiman · 08/02/2023 20:07

Is this a reverse? Are you the grandad??

Viviennemary · 08/02/2023 20:08

You absulutely cannot expect your Dad to take time off work. I agree if he was retired its a different thing. But he isn't.,

Buymyselfflowers · 08/02/2023 20:08

My father was a lovely grandad but there’s no way he would have been prepared to have sole care of my children for the day under any circumstances. Maybe your dad is different but even so, no he shouldn’t give up a day of work because you won’t!

IntentionalError · 08/02/2023 20:09

‘Notion the motion’

Grandad won't look after Grandson
SleepingStandingUp · 08/02/2023 20:09

So he's possibly ill will something contagious and instead of managing you want your Dad to take unpaid leave to have him so you don't have to?

PatchJudy · 08/02/2023 20:09

No I wouldn't expect a grandparent to take time off work to look after their grandchild.

Idontevenknow · 08/02/2023 20:10

Your wife has done her turn. It's your turn- nobody else's

Tiggal · 08/02/2023 20:10

So you can’t be arsed to look after your own child but you expect your dad to?

kitcat15 · 08/02/2023 20:11

Ok This is a wind up thread.....and if not then you are a dickhead.....look after your own sick kid

GoodChat · 08/02/2023 20:13

Your dad should take the day off work last minute, even though you knew yesterday you'd need childcare, so you don't have to move a meeting?

808Kate1 · 08/02/2023 20:13

Perfect example of entitlement. Absolutely shameless.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 08/02/2023 20:13

I’m going to sneak the phrase ‘notion the motion’ into one of my dull, long, work calls tomorrow 🎉

GideonSmideon · 08/02/2023 20:14

Stop being so entitled and take the day off to look after your own child. It's not your parent's responsibility ffs.

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/02/2023 20:15

Why’s your job so much more important than everyone else’s?

Then fall about in fits of laughter 😜

WaddleAway · 08/02/2023 20:17

I would never expect either of my parents to take a day off work to look after our kids. Either DH or I would take the day off. YABU

Hoppinggreen · 08/02/2023 20:17

The only way you could be any more unreasonable here would be if you expected your mum or mil to do it because- women
