When did your LO drop to one nap?

My little boy is 11 months in 5 days. He’s always been a good sleeper and wakes up normally around 7.45am, sometimes earlier and goes to bed at 7 so is at least getting 12 hours sleep a night.

His wake windows are now getting longer and I’ve noticed he can go around 3.5 hours in the morning before getting tired. Today he went to sleep at 11.15 and woke at 1, following which he had his lunch.

Given how late he woke we weren’t able to get him down for a second nap so he went to bed at 6.30pm.

I read that at 11 months old they normally need only around 13.5 hours sleep in a 24 hour period and he’s definitely getting more than this. Does this sound like he’s ready to drop his second nap and so the timings seem right? He seemed alright being awake for the afternoon and didn’t seem overtired.

He was not far off 1 when he started dropping 50% of the time and just turned 13 months when he consistently went to one nap.

He’s just turned two and we’re starting to have to shorten it & wake him up before 2pm

Mine dropped to 1 nap at 10 months and dropped altogether at 18 months. I think this was a little early but it worked for me.

19 months.

13 months I think

ChillysWaterBottle · 05/02/2023 19:49

Around 1 years. Huckleberry app said it was just the 12 month sleep regression and it was too early to drop the second nap so I should keep trying but he never went back lol.

JJ1989 · 05/02/2023 19:52

Thank you! Does the timing of the one nap today sound about right? I’ve seen a lot of people say early afternoon for the nap but I don’t think he could go that long

Follow his lead, if he sleeps in later in the mornings consistently then he could be ready but early bedtime and late rising could just mean he's more tired

15 month old 7am awake, 11.30am nap x2 hours. 7pm bedtime

Similar to this but think it was more like 16/17 months. I remember it being later than the other babies we knew. They dropped to one nap not long after turning 1

10 months for my little boy, he was refusing his naps and we weren't getting him to sleep at night until 10/11pm!

Moonshine160 · 05/02/2023 20:05

11 months.

GalaxyBlobs · 05/02/2023 20:05

18 months ish

GalaxyBlobs · 05/02/2023 20:06

Still on 1 nap a day at 2.5 years x

DragonbornMum · 05/02/2023 20:50

His birthday. It should have been week or two sooner but we had to keep it because of reasons.

Initially it was a rough transition - i had to give him lunch really early so that he was asleep by 11:30 (at the time he was waking around 6am) or he'd get massively overtired. After a few days he settled into the new routine. I knew he needed to drop the morning nap because his nights were really disturbed, so that gave me the confidence to keep at it.

MrsBunnyEars · 05/02/2023 20:52

Just for balance - DD was nearly 2 before she was consistently on one nap. She consistently had 2 short ones before that. There’s a really wide range so I’d go with what works!

AudreyJL · 05/02/2023 20:59

I would follow baby’s lead. If you and baby are happy with an earlier bedtime then stick to the one nap but if you find baby needs a second nap to stretch for a later bedtime then perhaps capping the first nap so you’re able to squeeze another one in?

My toddler went to 1 nap a few days shy of being 18 months. Almost 19 months now and for the most part takes one nap a day though occasionally two naps if she’s had an exceptionally busy day

Icecreamandapplepie · 05/02/2023 21:05

12- 13 months.

It's a misery for a bit when they get super tired before bedtime. Feels like it hoes on forever at the time, but only lasts two or three weeks before they adjust

Oopswediditagain2023 · 05/02/2023 21:09

Yeah probably about 1 she dropped to one nap of about 2-2.5 hours, and my friend's babies have followed the same pattern usually.

Burpcloth · 05/02/2023 22:42

13months

crazymuseummum · 05/02/2023 23:15

My DS was at least 18 months old when he dropped from 2 naps to 1, and it was definitely the worst transition of them all. Hellish!

BabyB2022 · 07/02/2023 16:05

Around 13mo, it coincided with when she started nursery so worked well and they only do one nap there. We kept to two naps on a Saturday for a while longer as she needed to catch up after 4 days at nursery but then after a month or two dropped that too.

YouNeverCanTellWithBees · 07/02/2023 16:20

DD1 12months
DD2 13/14 months

CoalCraft · 07/02/2023 16:53

Between 10 and 12 months - it was a gradual transition rather than an abrupt thing.

shivawn · 07/02/2023 16:57

Around 14.5 months. I miss the 2 naps, we could be a lot more flexible then because he only needed one nap to be a good one, the other one could be on the go in his buggy or carseat, now he only has one nap so it has to be a good one.

Keeley1472 · 08/02/2023 18:39

One was 18+ months, one was 13 months.
