Kids are a bit magic aren't they?

It's past midnight and I should be asleep. I'm just thinking about DS and kids in general and thinking about how amazing they really are.

DS is very recently 3 and in 3 short years he has gone from completely dependent newborn to a whole person who can communicate what he wants, how he feels, things he'd like to do. Every step of the way, every new challenge he's conquered has brought me so much pride and happiness. I honestly didn't think I would enjoy parenting a small child but it's great. Don't get me wrong is incredibly challenging at times and by no means always joyful. When you take a moment to stand back and just watch them and what they're becoming it's a bit mind blowing.

Feeling a bit emotional tonight, sorry for the odd ramble.

I know exactly what you mean ❤️

❤️ My little girl has changed so much this year, she couldn’t hold her head up this time last year and now she’s learning how to use a fork and took her first steps today.

They are amazing at converting food into energy and being a person. A bit weird when you think about it.🫠

It's very weird. I also find it mind boggling that I made a person? I'll never know what the voice in his head sounds like or how he perceives things but I made him. Very very weird.

I agree. It hits me every so often that I grew two little cells and it created these amazing little people. When high on hormones after each birth all I could think was I made this!

DoNotEatPickles · 02/01/2023 00:47

They are amazing, I’m lying in nearly 8 yr old DDs bed just now, she’s going through a major bout of insomnia and has finally just fallen asleep. She is so good, mostly stays in bed and reads to herself, but had got so tired and frustrated she was crying and needed a cuddle. Now she is snuggled up to my arm and I don’t want to move because she is just the best thing ever and she’s mine. We’ve had a lovely Christmas holiday together, I love seeing her developing into her own person, and she’s off to her dads for the last two days of it tomorrow, I’ll miss her.

This isn’t the thread I thought was going to be.

I thought it was how they never have room to eat anything healthy but can magically make chocolate biscuits disappear 😂

But if you want weird, wait until they are in their 20’s truly their own independent person and you talk to them like an adult. You’ll find it incredible to think they were ever babies.

UWhatNow · 02/01/2023 00:51

You’re absolutely right and it gets better! Wait until they teach you something, or someone completely independent tells you how wonderful they are or they hold down a professional job doing something quite impressive…

That too. I'm fairly confident DS has a second stomach solely for bananas and baby bells 😂

Also I refuse to accept that the tiny human I brought home will ever be a full grown adult despite all evidence to the contrary

Yes. Totally in awe and adoration.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 02/01/2023 00:54

They're so brilliant. I wish I could help my DD understand how brilliant she is. ❤️
She's a marvel and a joy.

Apollonia1 · 02/01/2023 00:59

Yes, my twins are nearly 3, and I just look at them in awe. A year ago, they only could say a few sounds, but now can have full conversations. Every day they surprise me with something new.

mishmased · 02/01/2023 01:00

It is amazing. I have 3 and it fills me with joy to watch them interact with one another. Last year we took the baby for her first holiday abroad and 9 year old eldest was explaining to her what was happening even though she was only 11 months old. I remember him being 11 months and he will be 10 at the end of the month! Second is 7 and I still look at him with baby eyes and can't believe how grown they've become. Whenever the baby is up at night, I remind myself that it will pass very quickly.

This thread is lovely.

Wait until you hear of amazing things they do from the mouths of others, I was told this recently..
DD was 9 a couple of months ago, she asked my parents (her grandparents) for the home alone lego set for her birthday. Having never seen home alone or shown any interest in lego my parents asked her why she wanted it.

She explained that 'mummy has wanted it for ages but it's too much money, I thought if I could get it I could give it to her'

They didn't get her the lego, they didn't get me the lego either. But that knowledge is better than any lego set.

She will come to understand with love and growth @CleopatrasBeautifulNose💞

Thank you @TooBigForMyBoots ❤️

Lost0013 · 03/01/2023 22:16

A lovely thread that I needed to read tonight thank you x

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 03/01/2023 22:33

Hope you are OK @Lost0013, hopefully you just needed a little positivity. :)

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 03/01/2023 22:44

DD 2 told me in the car on the way home from nursery today 'Toby was crying. I said no no don't cry. It's okay I look after you'.

Nearly crashed the car. She was mute 3 weeks ago and I was starting to panic. Amazing girl. Made my day.

Bossa09 · 03/01/2023 22:45

Well this has been lovely to read. It’s made me a bit emotional though.
My daughter is 10 months old today. I can’t get enough of watching her achieve and gain new skills. It amazes me how determined she is already.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 03/01/2023 22:50

Ah this is lovely 😍 DS is ten and I still think he's magic! He's great fun, bright, curious, funny, loving and makes a great cuppa 😁 Back to school tomorrow and will miss having him around making me laugh.

SeaToSki · 03/01/2023 22:54

My baby is talking about marrying the love of his life and having dc of his own. He just told me that he hopes he will be a good Dad but thinks he has a good chance as he had good parents himself. I was trying not to tear up and then he gave me a hug and the tears just ran

Piemam · 03/01/2023 22:55

This is so lovely! And I can confirm that the older kids thing is true; they can still surprise you, make you smile, go I made them! But the younger ones are just aahhh, if you're lucky enough to get a moment to stop and enjoy.

Boringcookingquestion · 03/01/2023 22:56

I know exactly what you mean. I keep looking at my newborn and thinking he was inside me. I grew him and now he’s here and he’s real.

Then I look at my toddler and wonder how on earth my tiny baby grew so much. How can he walk, and laugh and play? He has his own likes and dislikes. He has a sense of humour. It’s crazy. They are just magical.

KylieKangaroo · 03/01/2023 22:58

They are just great! I thank my lucky stars every day for them!
