What do your babies wear?

Baby boy is 9 weeks old and basically wears sleepsuits night and day except when we go out somewhere and I pop an outfit on (usually dungarees or a jumper/trouser set).

what do other people do? My friend thinks it strange I dress him in a sleepsuit rather than an outfit during the day but it’s just so much more convenient especially if just in the house.

when did your little one start wearing outfits more often than sleepsuits during the day?

I always wanted mine to be comfortable; why out trousers on them when they can be comfy in a baby gro. I only started with separates when he started crawling and pulling himself up as then the baby gro got in the way

Eatentoomanyroses · 20/12/2022 13:44

Always sleepsuits at that age. Outfits more around the 5 month mark

TheRookieMum · 20/12/2022 13:45

I dress my 3mo exactly as you've described. Sometimes he even goes out in a babygrow for lots of different reasons. My view is, he's young and sleeps so much that really he needs to be comfy sleeping. I do love him in little dungarees or jumper/trousers sets though so I enjoy dressing him up to go out.

But I have the same question as you and wonder what others do/did!

With my first id always put him in outfits even when staying in, then a baby grow at night... second one shes in baby grows all the time. It was so much faff with outfits, he looked really cute but wasnt worth it.

CoalCraft · 20/12/2022 13:47

I dressed mine in sleep suits even to go out when they were new, then once they were big enough for the 0-3 size I started dressing them mostly in dungarees during the day.

I don't like waistbands for young babies - they always seem so uncomfortably tight! So avoided leggings, tights etc. until they were quite big, like 15 months.

MolesOnPoles · 20/12/2022 13:47

100% sleepsuits. Even during the day they’re sleeping so much that they are best off in what are effectively pyjamas.

SalviaOfficinalis · 20/12/2022 13:47

Definitey babygros at that age, nice and comfy.

VivaVivaa · 20/12/2022 13:47

Mine lived in sleepsuits until about 6 months, maybe later. He was very refluxy and outfits were just too much faff.

lavenderfine · 20/12/2022 13:48

Sleepsuits till they're in 3-6 months. Then a bit of mix but I'd still mainly do sleepsuits, they're comfy and cute and easy to change

CoalCraft · 20/12/2022 13:48

Main reason I switched from sleep suits to dungarees was both DDs were quite long and their feet were often a bit squashed.

WorryMcGee · 20/12/2022 13:49

Mine was extremely sicky and lived in Morrisons babygros until she was about 5 months, then vests and leggings until fairly recently (she’s now 8 months) because the sick has pretty much stopped so it’s enjoyable putting her in nicer things. When the outfit is just covered in sick in 2 seconds or covered by a bib there’s little point in making an effort 😑😂

ecossegirl91 · 20/12/2022 13:49

Thanks all - I didn’t think it was strange that he lived in sleepsuits 😂 but she got me wondering!
he’s in 0-3 just now and have started picking up bits for 3-6 months and even then it’s mostly sleepsuits with a few outfits. Just so convenient!

six months seems like a good age to start using more outfits / separates…

Mine always wore clothes during the day and sleep suits at night. It never occurred to me that I could just leave them in sleep suits.

They were never uncomfortable though, I don't really understand why soft clothes are seen as an uncomfortable option.

Martialisthebestpup · 20/12/2022 13:51

I did use trousers/dungarees or footless sleepsuits during the day at that age, but only because we used a baby carrier a lot and his feet got all scruched up in footed sleepsuits.

houseofboy · 20/12/2022 13:55

With both of mine once they were a couple of months old I put them in outfits for the day. It was partly for me, so in the morning everyone got dressed for the day, sounds weird but I liked to have the difference between night and day. My first was born in a hot summer so this consisted of a lot of rompers though so not that different, youngest was a winter baby so bottoms with feet in as much as possible.

showysnowy · 20/12/2022 14:57

For me baby grows all the way. I wanted ds to be comfortable and not constricted by jeans or whatever trousers they had with the waists digging in but I change him head to toe after sleeping in them.

Weepachu · 20/12/2022 15:48

Sleepsuits all the way. It makes me wince when I see very young babies in uncomfortable looking outfits. And I side eye those who put young babies in rough materials like denim.

trrk · 20/12/2022 16:03

Mine is almost 6 months and still mostly in sleepsuits, both at home and out. I occasionally put her in leggings and a top but usually just default to the sleepsuits as they are comfy and I don’t have to faff around with socks. I also leave the sleepsuit on in the morning until it gets dirty to avoid making extra laundry.

strawberrysummer19 · 20/12/2022 16:18

Sleepsuits ( she's 5months) until maybe she is less sicky and when they get in the way sometimes with crawling maybe so for a while !

Love a sleep suit

She has hardly any outfits

They are cute, easy and you can get really lovely ones

ecossegirl91 · 20/12/2022 16:53

Thanks all for validating my love of sleep suits 😂

I always found sleepsuits really fiddly. All those poppers were really annoying. I was bodysuits and dungarees as often as possible from a couple of weeks.

Dungarees or soft trousers much easier for nappy changes than sleepsuits too in my opinion.

FlounderingFruitcake · 20/12/2022 20:27

I do soft trousers with a vest and jumper - much easier for nappy changes than faffing with sleepsuits plus mine were long as babies so got a better fit that way too. My older daughter wore a lot of soft sweater dresses with tights but also leggings and jumpers too. Do whatever you find most convenient though! It’s all about ease, which for me, is most definitely not sleepsuits.

Merryclaire · 20/12/2022 22:16

I dress dd in ‘proper’ outfits most days (though just used baby gros for the first few weeks). This is mainly because we were gifted so many lovely clothes, but also I enjoy dressing her. Personally I don’t think her clothes are any less comfortable or faffy than the sleep suits for the most part.

She has been wearing a lot of pretty leggings with knitted tops in the recent cold snap, or knitted dresses and tights.

I find dungarees to be great, but dungaree dresses do ride up a bit.

FrostyPaws · 21/12/2022 19:09

Mine wore rompers a lot when she was tiny, the ones with the poppers on the crotch, found it soo much easier than sleep suits during the day or out and about. But if you find sleep suits work best for you I certainly wouldn’t judge you not putting on an ‘outfit’. But I do think leggings and a top/jumper are no less comfy for a baby than a sleepsuit. I wouldn’t bother with anything denim or with zippers or scratchy fabric. Or tights, fuck tights..

20viona · 21/12/2022 19:15

My daughter is 14 weeks. I only ever put her in outfits if we go out really. Top and leggings, like you say sleepsuits are so convenient at home and I think there's nothing cuter than a baby in a baby grow. Iv got 2 daughters and everyone always buys them little dresses and that's the last thing I want them to wear under 6 months especially 🤣
