Xmas present ideas for newborn?

Hi everyone,

I want to get my 6 and a half week old some Christmas presents. Just a couple, obviously I know she’s going to have no idea, be able to open them etc but that’s why I have no idea what to get her. Ideally I want things that will also be useful, not buy things just for the sake of it. FTM here :) she has plenty of rattles now…. any ideas please? X

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Blanket, dummy, teddy, any baby toy that makes noise. At that age you could give them a spoon and they'd be thrilled

CourtneeLuv · 10/12/2022 17:53

Start off a bank account?

HappyMarriage · 10/12/2022 17:55

Think of things you’ll need over the next year? So some decent weaning bibs and bowls/cutlery? A baby gym or play mat? If you’re a FTM you have a lot of choice at this point as you don’t already have stuff from previous children

Stacking cups
Bath toy
Light up ball
Soft stacking blocks
Nice outfit

A sensory box with a mini maraca, foil blanket, light up ball etc. in it. I bought my sons around that age and it's so cheap and so useful for play when they're tiny. Great for helping encourage tummy time enjoyment. He's almost 8 months and we still use the stuff all the time

I got my Christmassy newborn a hard backed copy of one of my favourite childhood books and wrote her a message in it.

A blanket for the pram
A bauble (start a tradition one a year)
Books

Mine got nothing for their first Christmas, as mean as that sounds 😂 But I did open a bank account and put £100 in

A personalised nursery rhyme book from wonderbly (or another book from them)

Marblessolveeverything · 10/12/2022 19:25

I second the book. I got a gorgeous leather bound The Wind in the Willows and read it to my sons for years. I have put it up to pass to them when they are older.

The next size of clothes you need

A little piece of jewellery that she can keep. Imagine her at 21 treasuring the little bangle or whatever she got for her first Christmas.

Love the bauble idea!

Start off a bank account?

This. Make a deposit. Buy some shares. Investment funds.

anything longterm.

they will thank you later.

Much better than wasting money on cutesy stuff they will have zero recollection of.

Buy a nice bottle of wine to taste together on their 18th birthday

Mine loved these pat a cake books. Hours of fun she had looking at those. Maybe some of the “That’s not my…” books as well. Can’t go wrong with a book and they are nice to wrap for you!

I’ve got my 3 month old a hedgehog sensory kind of toy, I have a 2 year old as well though so still have SO many toys to be passed on. I’m going to get a baby footprints/handprints set as well.
My 2 year old got a sit me up, jumperoo and some 6 months+ toys for his first Christmas to see us through until his first birthday.

wishing3 · 10/12/2022 19:53

Things linked to ongoing Christmas traditions you might like to start
clothes and things you’d buy anyway
books
few age appropriate toys

Deegibx · 10/12/2022 22:32

My DC1 was 10w old for first Christmas. I got a bauble for the Christmas tree, a nice hardback nursery rhyme book and wrote a message in it (still have mine from my first Christmas!), and some weaning bibs that were on offer at the right time.

Deegibx · 10/12/2022 23:12

@Margo34 thanks hun :)

I bought mine a gold bullion coin, took a picture with it, put it away. They will get it with the picture on their 18th, by which time it should have increased in value.

Deegibx · 11/12/2022 00:24

@Eixample ooo love that idea!

Finger puppets?
Bubbles/bubble machine?

Greybutterfly · 11/12/2022 00:37

I have brought a toy box
