Anybody not experience 4m sleep regression?

hi all! Baby is 15 weeks old and always been an amazing sleeper. Currently she goes down at approx 9pm, I dream feed at 11pm and she wakes again at 7-8am. So she’s going sometimes 9 hours, 11 if you class her as fully asleep for the dream feed (which she always is) on her own.

I guess my question is, I’m so so used to my sleep I can’t lie, the idea of a sleep regression and frequent night wakings sounds frickkkken terrible lmao. I’m praying she must already be doing some sort of self soothing/sleep cycle linking surely because of
how long she’s sleeping? Do ALL babies go through the regression!?

Congratulations, you have a unicorn baby. I never noticed the regression with my first because he was up every 15 minutes anyway.

FrozenGhost · 02/12/2022 02:04

I didn't notice it with either of my dc, they both slept pretty well (for babies), waking 1-2 times, and that didn't change at 4 months.

Tabitha888 · 02/12/2022 03:01

I am so happy that it's working out for someone. Mine has a different kind of regression each bloody week so it seems. Good luck, and if it does happen, remember it won't last forever x

My dd didn't. I just noticed she was more unsettled napping through the day.

Lulu2171 · 02/12/2022 03:36

Ours was the same. No 4m regression, but there was a 7m one and it was brutal because we had none of the coping strategies people develop when they have a normal/poor sleepers. We waited far too long to get help from a sleep consultant. When we did, little one took to it immediately because they were simply being helped to return to familiar good habits. So if you get a whiff of regression my advice is to get help asap.

IneedcoffeeinanIV · 02/12/2022 03:40

My first DD didn't thankfully. My second DD slept like an absolute angel up to 4 months and lulled me into a false sense of security before her 4 month regression started. It's lasted a few weeks but (fingers crossed) she's still fast asleep this evening and would have woken by now so looks to be a short lived thing.

Waiteflower · 02/12/2022 03:41

Me!

My baby boy slept 10-6 from 12 weeks until about five months and started sleeping 8-8 until about 12 months and now he sleeps 7-7.

User317994 · 02/12/2022 03:42

Mine was/is the same, at 4 months had to do 2 night feeds rather than 1 for a week or two then back to normal. She's 6 months and I've just now noticed 2 teeth popping through and she's been sleeping great still so maybe we will be fine forever!

Ragwort · 02/12/2022 03:47

No mine didn't ... self settled from Day One and went from 7pm to 7am with one very quick night feed (straight back to sleep) until 8 months and then slept right through.

I only had one DC so I guess it was just sheer good luck.

Now I'm the one who doesn't sleep well ... hence mumsnetting at 3.30am .. nothing to do with a baby ... he's 21 now Grin.

babysharksb1tch · 02/12/2022 04:47

No mine didn't, but that was only because they NEVER slept more than 30 minutes at a time Xmas Grin

Rtmhwales · 02/12/2022 05:07

DS never had the regression but was a great sleeper from practically day one. So he kept it consistent.

Northernsoullover · 02/12/2022 05:25

I didn't and it wasn't a 'thing" when mine were tiny. I've never heard of it and a recent discussion with friends with friends with children of a similar age didn't experience it either. I have also not found any academic literature to prove it exists but I'm happy to be corrected on that.

It wasnt a thing when my childrem were babies either and I remember lookimg t up when I first heard of it and it didnt seem to be a medical thing do I couldnt really understand how babies had changef

I guess my point is how has it become somrthing that you would expect to happen

Juicylychee · 02/12/2022 07:49

Noticed she wouldn’t nap as easily in the day but it wasn’t a thing at night at all. People used to say her sleep wouldn’t stay so good but luckily she’s been a dream!

Everydaywheniwakeup · 02/12/2022 08:00

Mine did and it was my first post on here 18 years ago. She'd been an amazing sleeper from 6 wks and then just stopped. It was Very Hard.
It did improve to pre 4m levels, but did take a while.

olderthanyouthink · 02/12/2022 08:07

My second didn't really go through it in the normal way, he could go back to slee by himself and slept the whole night till 5/6 months. Then he started walking up a bit again, not that bad though till the 8-10 regression and that still wasn't awful but I accept bedsharing readily. At 4/5 months though he did this maddening thing of not dropping a nap but needing less sleep so he just wouldn't go down till midnight-2am and had I think 5 naps a day 🤦‍♀️ he was a great napped, just fell asleep on his one for most of them and they were decent naps too.

My first was an actual nightmare horror story of a sleeper, in comparison my son is a dream

Changechangychange · 02/12/2022 08:08

Mine was a crap sleeper and continued being a crap sleeper! I didn’t notice any particular change at four months.

3partypics · 02/12/2022 08:14

At least you've had decent sleep on the way to it? I know you can't store it up, but honestly when you were already getting shit sleep for months and then hit a worse patch, it's bloody tough!

On the plus side it only last a few weeks until back to normal, and the next biggy tends to be around 8/9m.

SamanthaVimes · 02/12/2022 09:11

I’m wondering about this too, my current 4.5 mo is a bit tricky for naps but generally very good overnight and I feel on tenterhooks waiting for it to change

My first lulled me into a false sense of security by being ok until 4 months and then waking every 45 mins for weeks and every 1 or 2 hours for over a year after so I feel like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop 😅 I’m really hoping this one is a unicorn, I don’t want to go back to sleepless zombie!

ChildcareIsBroken · 02/12/2022 09:50

Try not to think about it. There is a lot of scaremongering about sleep. If it gets worse, you'll figure it out.
Sleep is developmental, so it can change a lot, not just at 4 months but you might be lucky.

winterrbug · 02/12/2022 10:09

My DC's regression didn't kick in until more like 5months, so there is still time yet 😆
However they were never ever as good of a sleeper as your baby so I suspect you're probably safe. If I could go back in time I would try and stick to good habits throughout the regression (whatever is sustainable long term for you!) but instead I fell into cycle of being the only one to settle them and always on boob etc so the regression has lasted a year and still going!

MamaBear1022 · 02/12/2022 10:10

Not at 4 months but 5.5 months things took a turn.

TheOceanClub · 02/12/2022 10:52

I had a lucky escape and 4m regression hit us the other way around.
Bang on his 4m birthday he started to sleep all night until 6-6:30 in the morning and not waking up for feeds anymore.

ladygindiva · 02/12/2022 10:58

3 DC and have never experienced the 4 month sleep regression. Dc 1 was a unicorn like yours, slept 10 hours ish at night from 10 weeks and just continued to do so. DC 2 and 3 ( twins) woke every 3 hours or so at 10 weeks and didn't see any regression at 4 months , in fact just a continued slow increase in sleep. Infact when dc1 was born in the late 90s I never heard of the 4 month sleep regression and none of the ( large number of) mums I was in a group with ever spoke of anything like that. I didn't even hear of the 4 month sleep regression until I had my twins in 2016.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/12/2022 10:59

No, my son didn't. He slept through from 12 weeks and it's been like that ever since. We kept expecting it to change but it never did.
