Baby "crawling" backwards

Helena1993 · 30/11/2022 09:13

My baby is 6 1/2 months old and has been pushing herself backwards for a month now but doesn't manage to move forward. Is this normal? She does these planks and tries so hard to move forward but it doesn't work

Yes 😊

BusgyMalone · 30/11/2022 09:15

Yep! It’s all part of them figuring out how to move, eventually she’ll start moving forwards

CeeceeBloomingdale · 30/11/2022 09:15

Totally normal, it’s easier to push than pull so they tend to do that first

Yes that’s normal!

TheRookie · 30/11/2022 09:17

Aw she's still so tiny, nothing to worry about! My boy was still a stationary lump at that age 😂

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/11/2022 09:17

Yeh really normal, lots of them go backwards first as they’re learning

SalviaOfficinalis · 30/11/2022 09:17

Very normal. Some babies crawl backwards, some army crawl, some bum shuffle. They all get there in their own way.

My DS always like to carry something around with him so he did a funny one armed-crawl like a three-legged dog 😁

BrandyandGinger · 30/11/2022 09:18

My oldest used to reverse herself into the wall and then roar with frustration. I think it took at least a month until she figured out how to go forward.

ladygindiva · 30/11/2022 09:19

Yes totally normal! All three of mine did this for a period before forward crawling. It's hilarious 🤣

Bobcatbobby · 30/11/2022 09:22

Yes my DD did this too. She used to get very annoyed that she was getting further and further away from the thing that she wanted. I think it’s easier to go backwards because it’s more of a pushing motion that takes less strength than pulling forward. She could also only pivot in circles for a while. She got there eventually 😀

Mine does that too 😂 it's funny and a little sad

Normal and cute

BrewandBiscuit · 30/11/2022 09:30

Yes! My son crawled backwards and pushed himself backwards in his Walker. I guess it’s an easy movement then forward. I can assure you he moves forward now and the look on his face the first time he crawled forward was priceless!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/11/2022 09:49

Prevent her from watching anymore Michael Jackson videos.

LT2 · 30/11/2022 09:55

Very normal. Mine did this. Then started to properly crawl at 9 months.

randomsabreuse · 30/11/2022 09:57

Yes, both mine got very cross when they got further away from the thing they were aiming for! Rolling was their most effective means of locomotion at that age!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/11/2022 10:01

Normal. I was constantly rescuing DS from beneath the sofa when he was learning to crawl - he would reverse half way under, then get wedged by his nappy padded bum.

racquel86 · 30/11/2022 10:02

Yes! My baby did this too! I had a walker as well that she could sit in and she could only reverse in it for weeks 🤣 now she can go every direction and run over my toes 🤣

Helena1993 · 24/12/2022 19:16

Okay baby has stopped going backwards for the most part and is on all fours, trying to move forward, but can't. It's frustrating to watch.. For both of us😂

Totally normal. DS didn't really crawl, he rolled and army crawled and then was walking at 11 months! They all work out movement in their own way.

I know this is ridiculous but I doubt she will ever crawl... She hasn't made any progress

It's fine. Neither of mine crawled until 11 months.

Have a look for an episode of Bluey called Baby Race ... it should be mandatory watching for parents

BooCrew · 03/01/2023 17:37

Yup, normal and hilarious! Six and a half months is pretty early to be crawling, she'll get there. Honestly, babies that stay where you put them are SO much easier than mobile babies.

If you really want to get her moving put the TV remote or your keys just out of her reach 😂

OrlaCarmichael · 03/01/2023 17:38

Is she still reversing??

My DC2 did that before going forward, but listing slightly as well, with one knee and one lower leg on the floor

She's 8 months and we'll... Yes. Still going in reverse. She does the crawling movement but it doesn't work at allll
